One of the best

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

... titles in real-time strategy games.
Starcraft didn't really set a new standard when it was release for graphics, engine and gameplay. However, as people played it they realized how perfect this rts title really was. Easy to learn, difficult to master. It retains its flavor and fun even after all these years and so many other titles that came out after it.
A great sci-fi rts game that should be in the collection of any fan of the genre. Don't miss out and make sure you also pick up the expansion back: Brood War.

Great Stragey game

If you have played Activision's Dark Reign, you will love this one. Many of the features and commands are similar. Graphics are great with some cool special effects. All the units are small enough, so playing on a small monitor won't take away from the viewable battlefield. Reasource and troop management are not complex like many other games of this type. You will not have to memorize many complex keyboard shortcuts(unless you want to) because the mouse is used for most of your input commands. Starcraft still holds its own after almost 2 years from the release date. I highly recommend Starcraft for those who enjoy a good strategy game.

StarCraft vs. Tiberian Sun

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

Hm, Tiberian Sun or StarCraft? A question some may ask as to where they're spending their 30-50 bucks. STARCRAFT! Instead of two races with the same units (and the same names for cryin' out loud) you have three whom all their buildings and even the way of building them is unique. No Protoss player can create a Zerg/Terran unit unless you own Brood War and mind-controll a unit. If you don't own the expansion, GET IT! That's another review. Plus, you can actually stop a missle or ion cannon from crushing that main base of yours instead of being hit every 5 minutes by those free missiles. Plus, StarCraft is a much more difficult game to master. You might think that's a bad thing. But, after StarCraft for a year, it took me two weeks to crush Internet players while it took over six months to learn the art and beauty of true PC warfare. Don't let the graphics fool you, Tiberian Sun is a horrid attempt of Westwood to beat StarCraft.

know why i rated this game 5 stars? because its a fine game. if it werent a fine game it wouldna get five stars would it? 1. this game has actual strategy. No more can you just get thousands of infantry and excpect to blow up a base. The person with better technology will rule. 2. have you ever SEEN better multiplayer??? it kicks (...), you can play cooperative, tournament, or just a plain old two-player wack. 3. the 3 races are superb. Each art different, with their own style and technologys. 4. the AI is agressive, especially in the custom games where it can annihalate you all it wants. There is even a special custom campaig which you can find on the map editor and change. These are just a few great aspects. Trust me, leave Red Alert 2 on the virtual shelf. you'll have a lot more fun with this one.

Warcraft "War-med" over

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 8 / 16

I must be either totally insane, or I played a different game than (apparently) everyone else in the universe. I found this game tedious, boring, and frustrating.

While it's true that the game has spectacular sound and graphics, the engine is that same old Blizzard engine that hasn't been improved since it came out. Warcraft veterans should notice the similarities in missions, which are either the "build up and sack the enemy" or "patrol an area with no reinforcements" type. It may look different, but this game is just Warcraft II with new graphics.

I found it frustrating because of the lack of control you have. Being limited to controlling only 12 units at a time is a pain, especially for a game that lends itself to "tank rush" strategies like this one. Command and Conquer does it better, allowing you to control everything you have at one time.

The research tree is is detailed enough to border on laborious. Upgrading your buildings on EVERY, SINGLE MISSION gets really old, really fast.

All in all, it's a nice looking game, but I'd just about rather pour vinegar in my eyes than play another Warcraft spin off ever again.

STARCRAFT RULES

THIS GAME IS AWESOME! If you are tired of stupid strategy games like command&conquer get Starcraft. Instead of having 2 sides the have almost identical types of units Starcraft has 3 sides which have entirely different types of units. Starcraft is a great game if you wish to combine warfare with economy.

bought it a year ago and it's still great!

i got starcraft over a year ago and i still play it fairly often now. even after playing the game for so long and so much, i still haven't mastered the game and i probably never will. i played the single player game a little but i find playing with and against other people over the internet is the greatest part of the game.

there are 3 races each with different strengths and weaknesses and i've found that after a year, i am proficient with one race and have fair knowledge of the other two races. there are so many different strategies that it will take a lot of playing to get tired of the game. i've been playing for over a year and i'm not tired yet. if you do choose to play multiplayer over the internet, i would recommend a highspeed connection such as cable or dsl. i've played a couple of times over 56k and it's worked fine but only with 3 other players at the most.

Blizzard makes the best games...

Obviously those one-star reviewers are not true gamers, for if you learn how to play Starcraft (go through all of the missions,) you will realized that "the most powerful" units can be countered, and that this game is NOT boring. Blizzard's Starcraft has a rich storyline, starting at the beggining to the end, unlike some games (C&C for example,) the characters in this game are real, belivable, and interesting. This is much more than just a real time strategy, its an interactive book. Once going though all of the missions, you can enjoy free game playing online (provided you have an internet connection) and explore different ways to defeat your enimies.

This is HIGHLY recomemended, as is the BroodWar expansion set which carries on this compelling story. While the graphics in Starcraft may not be the BEST, having lower quality graphics lets more people enjoy this game. Its not like the're DOS quality or anything... yeesh.

I'd rate this 5 stars anyday!

Starcraft is also a must buy for a strategy game lover. Although Sc is not as great graphic wise as Age of Empired II the game certainly makes up for it's graphics in other ways. Such as it's three seperate races that are nothing alike. Each race have different abilities and different units. Then you have ladder when u play ladder you get a rating and you can check your placement within that area of the world. Then you can play the regular game of melee in which you build up and fight to destroy enemies. Only one problem with the game is that if you happen to play online most of the users bought the expansion Starcraft Brood War. Which means you cannot play with those users. Yet Starcraft is still a great game and a must!

Multiplayer Bliss

What can I say that hasn't been already stated? Starcraft is simply magic, the kind of magic you just want to embrace and show undying love until your untimely death. What am I saying? All these emotions just for a simple game? Yup.

Regardless of its againg software and graphics, StarCraft is amongst the best games ever crafted. It defines how multiplayer and singleplayer Real-Time Strategies are viewed as. Without a doubt, this game has set the standards and is an unrelenting force to be reckoned with.

It's very own single-player campaigns is superbly built and played in fun addicition. The choices of 3 different races adds to the depth of the gameplay. This ain't no Commmand and Conquer type of deal, this has 3 entirely different races that warrant totally mixed tatical playing. The Zerg are strong in numbers, the Terrans are reliant on their powerful and mobile aresenal, and the Protoss are just powerfully built and defensively hard core. You add up this puppies into the game, and what you have is an all-out war for the universe!

The Multiplayer option is where StarCraft shines the most, it harbors around relentless hours on the free B.Net or on your personal settings. I cannot resist nor will I ever get tired of playing StarCraft online. It simply recreation for the new ages. I, myself, see it as Chess or Checkers. It is a revolutionary classic that begs recongition everywhere. Awesome, simply awesome.

Now for a sequl, eh Blizzard. . .
