First thing, this game was scheduled to release back in February. But I waited patiently...
Now I have the game and it is georgous; rich enviroments et al, which SLOWS game glay!! And what the HELL was EDIOS thinking giving Ms. Croft "Bounce"? That does NOTHING for the game. Come-on! Was that really nessesary? The controlls are quite twitchy at times as well, but can be overcome with practice.

Dissapointing so far.............

I bought this game yesterday and played for a few hours and I found it dissapointing and frustrating. I am a huge fan of the TR series and bought 1-3 on the PS1. I thought this game would be better as it is now on a more powerful platform.

Within a few minutes of playing the game appeared to slow down, when nothing particularly exciting was happening, I was just climbing on a roof (in the rain) and the game appeared to go into slo-motion. Later on whilst wandering round the Parisian ghetto (a very slow and boring bit), I suddenly fell through the pavement into nothing and continued to fall until I had to reset the console.

Other frustrating things I found were slow load times in between levels and even to load the menu, ie in game when you press start, to give yourself a medipack the disk kicks in and loads (not for long, but it didnt happen in previous TR's, it was instant).

The controls also seem a little different to the previous TR's and I find it very difficult getting into the correct position to pull/push objects.

I have only played the game for a few hours and perhaps it takes some getting into. Will write more if I find anything else. I hope it gets better...a lot better or I will be taking it back.

good enough

After waiting forever for the game to be released, then to find that nearly all the qualities I liked about this series are gone. The graphics look better, but the gameplay is awful, it's slow and Lara is awkward to control, especially when she is carrying a weapon, your practically defenseless. Also, this game was way too easy and over too quickly,(meaning the value relating to replayability and amount of first time play value is poor) the puzzles are too simple and the number of enemies you face is far less than previous TR games. Lastly, If I wanted to play "Kurtis, Psychic Slacker" I would have bought it, but I wanted to play Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. I tell anyone who asks to rent it first before they decide to buy.

What did they do?????

Come on Eidos, I was expecting a spectacular game, I've been let down, I played it, but not with much enthusiasm.

Tombraiders 1,2,3,the chronicles, and the last revelation were absolutely awesome and challenging. That's what kept me coming back for more tombraider. I don't usually come down on makers like this but you guys put this game off for months before you finally decided to let it go, perhaps you should have debated a little more!!!

this game stinks on ice

This is the worst game I have ever played besides lord of the rings the two towers. The controls were so bad that if you pressed jump forward, she would jump sideways. What's the deal? Then there were so many Bugs like boaz you had to press square to aim when square is really to roll. Can anyone see how boaz was once a human?

Long wait. Major disappointment

I have been a Tomb Raider fan since day 1. I have enjoyed every game's playability and storyline. I couldn't wait until Tomb Raider came out on PS2. Then I played it. The graphics are great, better than any other TR. However, I was not happy with the controls and the automatic camera angles that constantly got in my way of jumps. Once you get to the Hall of Seasons stage, the game is essentially over. In Breath of Hades, you have to jump on tiny wooden logs suspended over a lake of fire. If you miss the jump, you cannot grab onto any logs. You immediately fall to your death. If you do somehow make the jump, you have stone statues randomly blowing wind at you from all directions. If you are hit, you automatically fall off. You have to cross about 6 logs to make it to the other side. I was so mad and frustrated after more than 30 attempts, that I turned it off and decided I was done with the game. The game is meant to be fun with a little challenge here and there. But having a stage that is nearly impossible to beat is not fun. The developers were not ready to release this game. It is full of bugs. Several people in the making of this game were fired because of all the flaws. If you want to try this game, I strongly suggest you rent it first. I'm trading mine in ASAP for something I'll actually play.

Very Enjoyable!

I'm surprised that this game has received so many negative reviews. It's the first Tomb Raider game that I've ever played and, having read the bad reviews, I was expecting it to be truly abysmal. Were people playing a different game to me?? The graphics are excellent! The gameplay is thoroughly enjoyable, with lots of puzzles, etc. and it's HUGE! Lara does take some getting used to in the way she moves but I've had no real difficulty, and I'm a complete novice. The scenarios are very varied. True, the first few levels are set on the streets of Paris and are a bit boring but then it really takes off. The sewers under the city, inside the Louvre museum and the archealogical dig in the Louvre basement. And then you get a colossal, beautiful tomb to explore: the Tomb of the Ancients with the Hall of the Seasons and many sub levels leading from it, like the Breath of Hades or Neptune's Hall! The rendering here is very beautiful, with lots of jumping, climbing, lever-pulling, creature-killing, puzzle-solving, etc. I loved every second of it. And then you're still only half-way through the game! I can't wait to play Legends and Anniversary, as well as trying out The Last Revelation. Give Angel of Darkness a try. It's a lot of fun and nowhere near as bad as people are making out.

It sucks

When I first saw this game,I was happy that another Tomb Raider game came out.

When you first begin to have make Lara get "stronger" and it was really hard for me to make sure my jumps were lined up correctly.

I think Eidos should've spent a little more time on making this game. And also the game was way too easy to beat.

Because I didn't like so much, clearly this was the worse Tomb Raider game I've ever played.

Extremely Disappointing!

The first Tomb Raider was what got me interested in the Playstation console. Over the years they've gotten progressively better. Then there was a long lapse between the 4th installment and now. What in the world happened!??!

This title is utterly useless. The controls are terrible. The camera angle is annoying and the levels are very uninspiring. Then you have this interaction with other humans that is just useless. You choose certain sentences and that is supposed to alter the game somewhat. All it does is use up precious game space on the disc. Utterly useless!!!

The music, is beautiful. But these games are known for their music. The graphics are nice, when you can see them. The game is way too dark. I know it supposed to be dark as you are in a tomb, or cavern, but it doesn't have to be that dark to where you can't see certain objects or other nuances.

I also judge a game on how I can just sit and play without reading. In this instance, I had to consult the manual because the controls weren't intuitive. Like the auto-aim and manual aim. Some of the "bosses" were so lame. At first you think it's going to be a challenge. But, you try and try and try, and you can't beat it. Then you do the unthinkable. You consult the web for a walkthrough and when you read it, it's like, "How dumb is that!!". After performing the moves to kill the creature, it was really quick and not very satisifying.

They include this lame "Making of" which is supposed to be insight on how the game was designed and what it took. All it did was waste space on the DVD. Who cares how you made the game. It didn't give any special insight into the way it was created because the game itself is terrible!!

Overall this game left a very bad taste in my mouth. One that I hope will not resurface in the next installment.

My recommendation is to skip this one. If I could give it less than one star I would, but Amazon doesn't have that option.
