Konami should of bundled this game with a bag of popcorn. Where is the game??? Half of the time is spent listening to mind-numbing dialogue or watching extremely long cut scenes. I would definitely recommend renting this game before buying it.
This Metal Gear is not solid

It's obvious from the opening sequence that a lot of effort went into this game. The graphics and music are top notch. Unfortunately, the game focuses entirely on the eye and ear candy instead of gameplay and story. It is, in essence, a horrible, horrible movie.
The Metal Gear franchise has never been known for believible plots, but MSG2 takes this to a whole new level. Like always, there's a huge governmental conspiracy, this time engineered by people that supposedly died 500 years ago. Riiiggghhht.
What's even more infuriating is the fact that MSG2 is really only a side-story. Those of you looking forward to playing as Solid Snake again will be sorely disappointed. Instead, his efemminate counterpart, Raiden, takes center stage. He's the typical anime adrogenous hero, all pasty skin and long hair. His story is not compelling in the least, and the setup to the climax is, in a word, stupid. Anyone with half a brain will quickly see where he fits in the Metal Gear universe.
To make matters worse, all of the "plot twists" in the game merely serve to create un-needed confusion, and seem incredibly out of place in the middle of a conflict. Otacon's story just reeks of a soap opera cliche.
The enemies in the game all have their own repetoire of abilities, and are all portrayed as two-dimensional, melodramatic [fools]. They look neat and flashy, but never seem dangerous. Instead, they seem rather comical, which eradicates any sense of true drama. I know I'm not afraid of some guy that Rollerblades while placing bombs everywhere.
The voice acting is once again horrible. Like in the previous game, emotion is handled via melodrama. The voices range from growly to whiney, with no middle ground. They neither endear me to the heroes, nor do they make me fear the villains.
Finally, there is the gameplay. The gameplay, like in the original, is great. Unfortunately, the game hardly lets you play. The plot moves through a series of cutscenes. You find out where to go, go there, see a cutscene of the enemy, kill the enemy, then watch another cutscene. Repeat until you finish the game.
In a phrase, this game is not a game. It's a horrible interactive movie. Don't waste your money or your time.
Good but not satisfied

Alright let me first say that the cutscenes and the plot are great in this game. Don't listen to all those drama queens yapping that the cutscenes and the plot stinks.
Ok the game is broken down into 2 chapters so i'm going to rate each chapter.got it?..ok
The first chapter is the "Tanker Chapter" which you control Solid Snake, this is the best chapter, so let me put it into a scale from 1-10 10 being the best score.
Graphics-10(Great introduction,great visuals,effects,plot)
Gameplay-10(Solid Snake can hang from railings,punch,kick,snap necks,shoot tranquilizer darts..etc)
fun level-10(when your done with this chapter your gonna go back and play it again and again)
Sound-10(awesome sounds and music)
overall-9(i gave it a 9 because it's sooooo short in 30 minutes you'll be finished with this level,ok maybe 45 min.
Now to the horrid "Plant Chapter"
It's 2 years later your a rookie named Raiden and you have to infiltrate a big nuclear plant(oohhh the suspense..yeah right)
Graphics-5(cutscenes look good still but there is no backround change, the exterior of the plant is orange and i got so damned tired of that color it got annoying.
Gameplay-10(Raiden has the same moves as solid snake but Raiden moves more swift)
fun level-10(boss fights against vamp,fortune,fat man,diffusing bombs..etc)
Sound-10(still great sound and music)
Overall-7(bad backround effects bring the score 2 points downdown, you don't control solid snake 1 point off everything else is good) Overall for both chapters-8 so 4 stars
Best Game CREATED!!!!!!!

This game is probaby going to be the best game out for a few years. This game is great...I dont own it but I own Z.O.E. and it has the demo. I probably played it about a million times. And thats just the demo. If I like it that much I wonder how much I will like the actual game. If you dont like this game when you buy it get a life. The first Metal Gear Solid for PS1 is my favorite game now and i've beat the game 17 times and starting again soon. The graphics for this game are probably the coolest graphics for a game i've ever seen. I think the story for this game is really good too. I am definitally going to buy this. I am pre-ordering it today so it doesnt get sold out....because trust me this game will be solid out I mean sold out for a long time!!!! If you own a PS2 I suggest you get MGS2 when it comes out. If you really like this game go to ... and go to Metal Gear Solid 2 and watch the trailer... it will blow you away. This will be the most realistic looking game you ever see....EVER!!!!!!!!
Needless to say that you MUST own it, right?

Alright I'm sure all of you know that this game is perfect, unrivaled, painstaking, etc and you all know that it is one more hot title for you to carefully stock inside your games-drawer. Well just like you all I've been counting every minute for this game to be launched two weeks before its release and now I'm finally with my copy. As expected the game lives up to all the hype around it and has established itself as this year's number one game as well as the most anticipated one. I won't disclose the plot of the game because it really would spoil the game. So take this in consideration: DO NOT read the Instruction Manual packaged within before you beat the game, really, because it wouldn't be as enjoyable as playing it without reading it. For those of you who are still unaware the game is divided into two chapters: the Tanker Chapter and the Plant Chapter. The first one as the name says takes place in an under cover oil tanker held by the US Marines strolling down the Hudson River. They're secretly transporting the ultimate nuclear weapon: Metal Gear Ray. The second chapter takes place in the newly-introduced plant facility offcoast the New York bay two years after the events of the the tanker. In a visit to the facility the president of the United States is taken hostage by a mysterious group self-named "Dead Cell" along with all the employees. Now this group is requsting an enormous sum of money in exchange to the president. But wait a minute..isn't the president Solidus Snake? It all will be revealed along the course of the game. As you've probably noticed the game has a great plot as well as an outstanding soundtrack. Finally according to GameSpot: "It boils down to this: you must play Metal Gear Solid 2".
Absolutely does not live up to the hype.

This is a game with so many flaws, it's disturbing. How could the follow up to one of my favorite games be bad? Okay, I'll spare you the wanna be profound review and just get down to it:
1. the texture power of the Playstation 2 isn't that good. it can only do 6 simultaneous textures on any one polygon (that's still better than 4 for the xbox, but not as good as 8 for the gamecube), including light sourcing (b/c the ps2 can't do real time lighting). as a result, it comes across as very bland looking and repetitive.
2. the character animation is sub-par. what's up with snake's walking up and down stairs at the speed of light? and how come he splays his legs out when he climbs up/down a ladder? the guys who animated this game need some more practice, you can't always rely on motion capture you know.
3. you only get to play as snake for the first 2 hours at the most (if you're a slow and methodical person)! for the rest of the game, you have to play as the whiny new recruit Raiden, who really comes across as an annoying androgenous freak.
4. the story is a huge ripoff of the matrix. there's no denying that idea for idea, Hideo Kojima is a huge matrix fan (the bullet time and the alternate reality). just get to the ending if you haven't already, you'll see what i'm talking about.
5. the story parts that aren't a ripoff of the matrix just come across as cheesy. i mean come on! liquid's severed arm is possessed by the spirit of liquid? that's the plot of an episode of buffy, not the politically charged metal gear solid series!
6. metal gear ray has a tail! what are they trying to do, appeal to jurassic park fans?!
7. the part where you play as raiden is a carbon copy of the first game, right down to the dialogue, methods of defeating villains, the torture part, and mission objectives. it's no fun if you don't add anything new in it.
8. level design for the raiden section is really uninspired. it's boring having only 6 or 7 different small sections of the plant to go in. there's nothing in mgs2 as cool as the rapelling section from mgs.
9. you don't care for any of the characters. i cared for sniper wolf and psycho mantis after i killed them, but i could care less for fortune and her desire to die. it was too cliche.
10. facial expressions in the cut scenes were nonexistent. the characters had one look and one look only...empty. it made them about as real as a stick figure drawing.
i think that's everything. this game is simply not what it was hyped up to be. it's nothing special and certainly isn't as enjoyable as the first. it's not the best game i've ever played and certainly isn't the best looking game i've ever played either (that goes to Rogue Leader for Gamecube). it's sad when the best thing about your game is making the character fall up and down stairs and slip on bird poop.
Quite a let-down

This game was the "reason" to get a Playstation 2.
Suffice it to say, I'm not much of a gamer, but I finished it twice in less than a week. The replay value was minimal, unlike the last game, and there were no extras like the VR training of the previous game.
Did I mention it was easy on the Normal setting? I managed to beat half the bosses on the first try on normal. It just wasn't that big of a deal.
Combine that with a plot that (a) requires you to sit down through hours of non-activity to listen to and (b) makes no real sense... and you end up playing an anime character, not Snake, for most of the game.
I can't really recommend this game, except for the technical aspects. It's really neat that you get all the flexibility that you do in this game, but that's nothing new to PC games.... just new to consoles.
Use your time wisely, play a different game

This game is unbeleaveible. From defuseing bombs to giveing sniper cover to young girls. It's definetly the best game I have ever played. Now below I will rate different parts of the game
Graphics-5/5
Theres no arguement in this section, The graphics of Metal Gear Solid 2 blows me away, Not even the x-box could of done graphics like this. From The rain splashing of Snakes sholders right to to every piece of detail on snakes face, This is the area that the developers of MGS2 excelled the best in
Sound-5/5
Absolutely no problems with sounds, The automatic doors opening with a slight sound and a gun shot bullet going off loud (Unless you was clever enough to pick up the silencer)
Gameplay-5/5
It's the best, I hear reviewers talking about how the game play is to short for somebody to enjoy it but it's long enough. When you have shoot outs with the enemy soligers in the food storage room the if you hit a lemon for example it will fly round the room and in the end up could end up with a very messy room. Also the Enemy Intelligence in MGS2 has been vastly improved from the dumb soligers of MGS1. If an enemy soliger spots you he will call for the "Attack Team" To come get you, The attack team is a group of about 6 well equiped soligers with Shields and an A-K, and I know from experience that you do not want to mess with these guys
Realism-5/5
Realism in Both MGS games has been somthing Konami have been proud of. Rightfully so, There are no monsters, Devils, Ghosts, Evil Spirits in Metal Gear Solid 2, But some people get confussed between paranormel and Technoligy. Such as Vamp, Vamp on Metal Gear Solid 2 who is a member of dead cell....Well, He is basiclly a vampire, He can walk on water and is about 20x faster than any human being. It's not because the devil sent him it's because if the critics would actually listen to the game it tells them that Vamp was created in a lab and was given ex-tended caporbilities.
StoryLine-5/5
Ok.....Thus is were alot of people get lost. The storyLine of Both Metal Gear solid 1 and 2 is a very complicated and hard to understand Storyline but if you really concentrate it will make sense. This is not for kids, I would say a mature 13 year old is the age that somebody needs to be to understand Metal Gear Solid 2 but no matter what age you are it is still hard. But when you get to know the story line you will love it, It is a story based game so Konami obviously spend alot of time on the story line. This is not your run in the mill "Enemy steals Nucleor weapons, Then a 1 man army goes in and saves the day" Storyline, Oh No, Meteal gear solid 2 is very different
Overall-5/5 (Obviously)
Metal Gear solid 2 with it's great story lines and graphics makes it the best PS2 game to come out so far and the only game I can see beating it is Metal Gear Solid 3, Whenever that may come out
This is a must buy, Hear are some facts you might liek to know before buying the game
-Do not listen to anybody who tells you there is very strong laungwige in Metal Gear Solid 2, Altogether there is 1 swear Word that is used once and it is used in a suitible manner and it is in context
-There is blood, I will not deny that. When you die you see blood spray out of your neck and it goes on the wall if you are near one but the blood isn't something you should be afraid of letting your children see, If you feel strongly about the blood then it is possible to turn it off in the options
-If you have not played Metal Gear Solid 1 then dont even try to understand the story line of Metal Gear Solid 2 because beleave me, There is no way you will ever get anyehrre
-In the UK the law says nobody under the age of 18 is aloud to play it, But you can have my word on it that this is not because of Foul Laungwige, Sexual Content, Violence or anything like that. It is because of it's complex storyline. Thats a fact
dope a** game
