First off, this game is not for everyone. If you're into the hack 'n slash genre of games (Devil May Cry, MGS), this game is very different from that. You don't do the fighting yourself like you do in those games. Instead, you give orders to your characters, telling them what weapons to use, and how to attack the enemy. Fighting is also turn-based. In most case, you get to attack with your party first, then, if there's any enemies left, they attack you. The trick here is to know how to attack the different types of enemies rather than hammer the X button until your thumb is sore...
And, yes, there are cut scenes, and it may get a little much after a while, especially if you're re-playing a section of the game. On the bright side, the cut-scenes are not too long (compared to MGS2, where the cut scenes seems to last forever). Some cheesy dialog is to be expected, and I guess something has been lost in the translation ... The cut-scenes are there to add some depth to the characters and also explain how things works on Spira.
Overall, a very good RPG.

What can i say about this game, well first of all the stunning graphics, they are just great. About the story I think it's very interesting, it's about the religious believes and the truth behind it. The music it's just great, Uematsu's work is incredible, the background music and the lyrics of the main theme are beautiful. The voices sometimes are a little out of place but it is not bad, and a few monsters easy to beat but it's okay. I really liked the characters and the plot and that make's this game the best RPG of the year.

I can't say much more than that. I love my linear RPGs, and this provided great battle set-up, great story, great graphics and a fabulous way to develop your characters (the sphere grid), so each time you play each character has different strengths and weaknesses. One of the best of the series, and worth every penny and more! Great the first time around, and just as fun the second!
Neccassary for any ps2 owner...

I have always read about final fantasy, especially number 7.i always wanted to play one,yet i never owned the right system.now that i have the chance, this game has made me see why this series has made it a whole 10 games. This, from what i hear,is the best(debated)of the series.the characters are really cool,Tidus, the charismatic hero,Yuna, the summoner of aeons, very mysterious girl,Lulu is a goth guardian, mysterious as well,Wakka, above average blitzball star(sorta),fights with an actual blitzball,Kimahri, the beast warrior who betrayed his own race and guards Yuna,Auron, the man who killed sin 10 years ago,he also has an extremly cool secret, pay attention when you get to the farlands, and then theres Rikku, the al bhed girl that is hot, yet a thief, can combine items for awesome attacks. The story is simply amazing, reason enough for buying this game.finally, another awesome feature is voice acting.it is nice to hear, yet some parts are overdone or underdone,as Yuna gives too many shocked or happy aha's,wakka sounds too hawiian, tidus is done ok except for the stupid laughing scene, auron is awesome, perfect for his character, not much can be done for kimahri, rikku is cute sounding, perfect for her character,Lulu is greatly done for who she is and her personality, and semour sounds like a wuss, but when you find out the truth about him,his voice is perfect, and kind of grows on you.this game should be bought by anyone who owns a ps2,no matter what.
Classic Final Fantasy gameplay gets a 128-bit makeover.

Considering the momentum built up by previous installments, the first 128-bit installment of the benchmark RPG series had to be something special. FFX is my favorite installment since part VI, making it my second favorite RPG. I alway prefer gamepay over long cinematics, but this game never gets dull. Here is my impression of the game, broken down for you:
Pros:
1. Classic gameplay. Although the technology has changed, many of the classic gameplay elements have changed. The battle system is familiar enough, with the use of magic and special abilities giving each character a unique advantage. The free-roaming in a totally 3-D environment continues the fine tradition of FF gameplay.
2. Graphics and Sound. Obviously not an inch of technology was waster here. The 3-D environment, the cinematic quality cut scenes, and the real time facial expressions provide a whole new depth to the world you are exporing. The music is memorable, and suits each scene well. After the somewhat poor audio we got from FFIX, this is a welcome relief. The first time I played FFX, my jaw was on the floor. Actually, it is still there.
3. Cinematics. FFX is part game, part movie. While this may be a con for people who demand action at every turn, I think the movie scenes are essential. There is a lot of character development, and I am always interested to see them interact wih each other. The addition of voice acting (a first for the series) also gives life to the characters, whom we have known until now only as 2-D sprites who make us read a lot when they talk. The voice acting is easier to follow than text-based dialogue.
4. Challenge. While I found FFIX to be pretty easy, this installment is more challenging than you might expect. I have gotten killed twice already, which is more than I was killed in all FF game combined. But I love a good challenge. As with other installments, you are looking at a decent 30 hours (maybe more) of gameplay. Your time will be well spent.
5. Story. What every RPG needs is a compelling story, and this one give it in spades. While it offers little innovation in the plot, it keeps you hooked, and you are always wondering what will happen next.
The Cons:
These are all depending on your taste in RPGs.
1. RPG cliches. The theme of "world in peril, only the select few can save it" is all too familiar. Though very compelling, the story could have had some more original twists. You are bound to have the deja vu feeling through out FFX. It is not a horrible thing, but those seeking a whole new story might be disappointed.
2. Less overal gameplay. People who love action games will love the battles, but might object to the long cinematics. But these are essential to the plot, so if you cannot sit through them, you don't deserve to be playing FFX.
FFX is a fine return to form for the series, and will definitely please both casual and hardcore gamers. One of the main reasons I bought my PS2 is for this game, and if this was the only game available, it would have been worth every penny.
Simply outstanding

Although many people like to write complex reviews about every little detail, I'll keep this simple: it's a great game.
Final Fantasy X takes the series in a new direction with the use of speech and the outstanding graphics. It takes the best from all of the PSX Final Fantasy games and continues with an engaging story, interesting monsters, and a very unique level system.
In one sentence... "Buy this game."

I've played some cool games in my life, but this game takes the cake and puts ALL the others to shame.
From the minute you start playing your instantly sucked into the world of the game.
The thing that impressed me most is that the line between when it is a movie and when it is a game is RAZOR thin and you often forget which mode your in at any one given time.
The battle set up is great and I love that you now control your own destiny for how you want your characters developed. It puts you in control of the important things.
If you own a PS2, you MUST own this game. If you don't own a PS2, go and buy one now just so you can play this game!
The reason to own a PS2.

Simply put, Final Fantasy X is the reason to own a PS2 if you're an RPG fan. This game is engrossing and will last you 50+ hours (not counting the secrets). The cut scenes, this time around, are seamless - the graphics engine helps in this department. You can barely tell when you're seeing in-game graphics vs. CG. Some of the most amazing graphics I've seen to date (in-game and CG). The story is involved (to be expected), and you'll love the customization of characters via the sphere grid (sort of like materia). The music is definitely catchy, and the familiar ending battle music is still there. The environment is developed thoroughly, the first time you see "the bad guy", you'll be amazed - face planted deep into the ground from astonishment. The only other RPG I can relate this game to is Skies of Arcadia - amazing graphics, sound, story and depth. What more can you ask from an RPG? 2 quibbles: The temple puzzles seem out of place in this game (seem to be more in place with a Zelda type game), and you only get Dolby pro logic sound from the game. During --some-- cut-scenes, you'll hear (and see, on your receiver) switch to dolby digital 5.1. Just a moot point, but I believe the "International" version of FFX has dolby digital surround sound throughout the game, and would add some nice environmental effects in certain situations.
If you enjoy the Final Fantasy series, buy this game (I don't have to tell you twice, you probably already have it)...if you enjoy RPGs, buy this game...if you own a PS2 - at least give this game a rent for a few hours (and get addicted, and then buy the game)!
another great adventure

FINAL FANTASY X is defiantly a huge step up for the series. The graphics are awesome. The sound and gameplay is vastly improved. The characters are nicely developed and the storyline is great. I especially liked the new turn-based battle system. I think it's the best set-up for RPGs. The ability to rotate characters during battles is really awesome. FFX has a lot more options than its predecessors. Oh and the characters talk! Wow! Even though it's not nsync with the lip movements it's still a nice touch.
In FFX you play as Tidus. Later on you'll run into some interesting characters, each with their unique personalities. My fave characters are Tidus, Lulu, and Wakka. I liked all of them though. The story also swirls around Yuna and her journey as a summoner. The animation cut scenes are gorgeous. FFX is one of the best RPGs out there. I enjoyed it a lot. Oh and beside the general plot there are also a lot of secrets to discover. FFX is excellent.
