I'm acutally playing this game right now, and have gotten pretty far in it. While I have not yet been impressed by the storyline as I have been with other games, FFX still has one that is quite compelling, along with certain plot devices that are pretty interesting and unique in its deliverance.
As always, the graphics are top notch, the movie sequences dazzling, though I must complain heavily about not having a dazzling introduction sequence. Sure, it was mellow and even dramatic in a quiet sort of way, but I really live for those intros once I buy an FF game, and I dying to see what X would like like. Another complaint is in the animation of the character during certain move/gameplay areas whent he movement of the characters seems somewhat shaky.
But hey, the character look great and the two main ones can actually pass for Asian this time, as opposed to Rinoa in FF8 who seemed to be the only one that betrayed her game's asiatic ancestry.
My BIGGEST compalint, however lies in the voice acting of the characters, Yuna's espeically who seems to pause at awkward moments, sound incredibly distraught at riduculouse times, and is just plain old annoying. Since when has Sqauresoft ever decided to release a game on the PSX2 without the Japanese track included? C'mon! They did it for the bouncer, and even DOA3 which was on the Xbox has the Japanese language as the only option available in the game. While I agree that a dub still needs to be done for a long RPG like FFX when releasing it to the American public (some of whom are uncultured or racist swine), it is a great annoyance to have to be forced to listen to Yuna's annoying dribble in English when I would much rather hear it in Japanese and not have to understand or comprehend the nuances that frustrate me so much in her English voice.
Then again, I don't think I'd be complaining so much if only Yuna had had a better voice actress.
Buy the game! It's still pretty good and enjoyable! The people and backgrounds are great to stare at!

Overall it is a great game what people need to do is stop comparing to to other games such as FFIV or FFVI(some would say 7 but in my opinion 7 was the worst). For square's first FF for playstation 2 I would say this is definately a winner.
True Classic!!

PS2 has made the grade with FF. FF8 was truly great and still one of my favorites along side FF7 and FF9, however, the speaking parts and the graphics moved me closer to the FF series even closer..keep it up!!. The only bad thing about the game is that they left out the card games..that stinks, other than that well worth time and money.
It really IS that good

I'm a FF fan. But even if I wasn't I would have turned into one after this game. My sister and friends sit around watching me play it as if there's a movie on.
The modifications from the older final fantasy series is amazing and the added speach gives it exactly what it lacked.
It's a must have.
Final Fantasy X is awsome

Without a doubt, this is the best Final Fantasy game in the series. The story is based on a blitzball player, which is an underwater sport, named Tidus. He and Yuna try to fight against Sin. This is a really cool game and if you liked any other of the Final Fantasy games. I guarantee you will LOVE this one!!!
if you want to know couple problems then look

i just got the game today and been playin it non-stop ofcourse.....alright ill start w/ its awesome the graphics are incredible....everyone should get the game just for the look of it....if you are a final fantasy fan then you definately need to get this game....this is def. the game to have for ps2
ok now the couple annoyances....1) if the speaking of the characters is not in the "movie" sequences of the game, then the mouth moves just as horribly as other games, which i thought was goin to be better....2) you cannot control the camera angle, the game decides where you can see....3) you cannot skip over sequences, so if you go back to a saved game you have to sit through the many sequences you just went through......overall though who really cares its FFX!!!!!! GET IT!!!
Square Racks up another Classic!

Yes, Square has done it again. What a suprise, eh? The gods of the console RPG have brought us the tenth installment in the now legendary Final Fantasy series. So, the question is, did it live up to the name? In a word, YES!
This has all the elements of a traditional and classic FF (Final Fantasy) game. Multitudes of side-quests, jaw-dropping graphics, and perhaps the pinnacly best of RPG storylines. By the time your done, you'll know you've played a Final Fantasy game.
To start the graphics are well...frikken' amazing! This game truely showcases the PS2's power. All of the in game graphics are incredibly detailed. From waterfalls along a jungle mountain road, to the wrinkles in Tidus's overalls. Of course theres the amazing CG sequences that have populated each of the FF games from 7 onward. Incredibly life-like and detailed, as the FF CGs always seem to do. One gripe with the graphics is the laziness of the localization. The great spoken text is robbed of true greatness by Square not matching the mouths to their English words. They still follow the Japanese dialouge which keeps me from watching the people and instead reading the sub-titles along with them.
The sound department shines as well. The soundtrack is incredibly well done (as all the FF games have been). They follow each emotion so thoroughly that it just sucks you in. Try not to feel exactly what the characters are feeling when they finally reach the Zanarkand Ruins, the music is simply enthralling and heart felt.
Gameplay wise, FFX keeps the core FF flavor, but definitly departs from it in several cases. Gone is the world-map which was the core of every FF game til now. Instead youll travel long roads and mountain paths, in a more life-like way. This seemed like a bad move at first glance but after a while it seems like a good decision and is a welcome change. The active-battle meter is replaced by true turn-based fighting. Weapons no longer have attack power, they embody attributes that give the characters stat bonuses or special abilities. The summon system remains intact as well. Now the biggest one is there are no levels to gain. Character advancement is done by sphere grid, where a giant map of "nodes", each embodying an attribute bonus or skill, is navigated by earning sphere levels. It seems limited at first but eventually lends to much more character customization that expected.
Bottom line, this is a Final Fantasy game, the story is totally engrossing and possibly the best FF title/story to date (save FF3/6 which remains my favorite!). If you like Final Fantasy and have plenty of time to spend, pick it up. No dissapointments allowed!;-)
another excellent game from Square

Squaresoft has been releasing Final Fantasy games since 1987 when they put out a game called Final Fantasy for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). It was one of the early console RPGs and features a nameless party of 4 trying to save the world. Fast forward 15 years and we come to the 10th installment in the Final Fantasy series. This one is the first Final Fantasy to make it to the Playstation 2 console. The game features voice acting (for the first time in the series) and the graphics are so far advanced from the 8 bit sprites of the original that it is only in brief glimpses that we remember the original.
We see a character named Tidus, star player of a popular aquatic sport called "Blitzball". He is going to play in a big game and we learn that he is still living in the shadows of his father who was a legend in the sport. As the game begins we see a tidal wave crashing in on the city and a large monster attacking. We learn later this monster is called "Sin". As Tidus meets up with a family friend and tries to escape, he falls off a bridge and after a dreamlike sequence he is in a different world. As Tidus learns where he is, we learn that it is 1000 years after the destruction of his city, Zanarkand. He meets up with a local man named Wakka who agrees to help him find out what happened (nobody believes Tidus's story). Tidus accompanies Wakka and a Summoner named Yuna. Yuna is on a quest to defeat Sin (still around a millennium later). Tidus is heading to Luca (a central city) to discover a way home. Thus begins a game that increases in scope as events unfold.
The first thing that must be said when talking about this game is that it is the most beautiful game I have ever played. The graphics are incredible. Nothing really compares to these graphics. The colors are vibrant and the characters are free of the old school sprites. While this game may have come out early in the life of the PS2, these graphics are still a standard.
This is the first Final Fantasy game to feature voice acting, and while it is well done, it does not reach the level of either of the two Metal Gear (Konami) games, or even Kingdom Hearts (Squaresoft). The voices do not match the movement of the characters mouths and occasionally sounds clipped and inappropriate for the scene. Even so, there are no major complaints with the voice acting. No major praises, either.
Previous Final Fantasy games had an Active Time Battle System. This meant that each character got to attack depending on how quickly his attack bar filled up. Final Fantasy X has a turn based system, where each character gets to attack (or cast healing magic, etc) in his own turn (based on speed, and status affecting spells). This is a small change. The big change is that for the first time you can switch characters in and out of battle during the battle. This makes it easier to use everyone in a battle (gaining precious experience) and to use the characters in the most effective way possible. Out of all the Final Fantasy games, this is my favorite battle system yet.
Overall, this is not my favorite Final Fantasy game. My favorites are Final Fantasy VI and VII (with IV coming a close third). If this game did not have to be compared to previous games in the series, it would rank as one of the top of the line RPGs (with only Suikoden III as the other top line PS2 RPG currently on the system...as of January 2003). Excellent game, if a little too linear for my tastes. You could only explore the world at the very end of the game.
A great RPG..

The final fantasy series has always been my favorite for RPG and FFX is no exception! This one stands out due to the great graphics, epic storylines and now the characters have spoken diaglogue that only adds to the experience.
Tidus is the main character- a popular sportsman whose main passion is the sport of Blitzball- a soccer like game. That is until his whole world and existence is changed by Sin- a monster that destroys everything. With the help of his allies, Tidus goes on this great adventure to defeat Sin- along the way he fights the typical FF battles, gains experience points, levels up and learns new tactics and of course, meets alot of allies/friends.
Besides the graphics, another standout in this game are the mini games- such as Blitzball that you can play in addition to the main storyline.
Another FF addition is the sphere grid where you can take control of the character's development. Alot of other reviewers disliked this part of FFX, but for me, it was great to have control of my character's development- it lets the gamer decide which way to strengthen a character, which spells/attacks to learn first etc. I will admit, it was confusing at first.
Overall- a great game- well worth the price it will give you hours of game play!
WOW
