Besides for the resolution, which is still at a measly old 640x480, I really don't have many complaints.
- There are 5 all new character classes, two more than were available in the original Diablo.
- The save system is better, and worse, considering that unless you accidently, or purposefully, write-protect your save file, you are almost guaranteed not to lose progress. However, you don't come back in the same spot, and if you left items laying on the ground, you won't find them again.
- There are four different towns you operate out of at different points in the game, each with their own textures. Also, the randoom dungeon layouts of Diablo are back.
- The chances of you finding another player like yours are really low, even among the same character class. For example, your sorceress can become a master of one of three elements, and of different aspects of each element. For example, some may put all their skill points into Inferno, while others prefer strengthening their knowledge of Fire Bolt, or Blaze. And while some would put more points into vitality and wear light armor, others may put points into dexterity, or whatever.
All-in-all, Diablo II will definitely remain a favorite for a long time.

This is an exciting, action-packed game that kept me up late more than one night. The variety of character skills add still more challenge to it. Worst problem: the game cannot really be saved, only restarted. This usually means having to travel via Waypoint and re-kill some monsters if you do manage to quit playing and come back later. I would not let a little kid play this game. It is far too scary (and grisly!) On the positive side: The Waypoints, and there is even something to be said for monsters coming back to life. If you go completely broke in a later act, you can Waypoint back to Act I and slug some monsters to get money for weapons, then work your way up through Act II and beyond. That at least partially makes up for the inability to reverse your last mistake by reloading the game.
Who says this game isn't great?

Diablo 2 will probably win an award for most underappreciated game of the year. It's interestin to see so many people bashing a game that, if you actually think about it, is exactly what people were expecting.
The original Diablo was a fun game, in that it was addictive and people who liked repetetive hack and slash action enjoyed it. However, it only held appeal for a very narrow branch of gamers. The rest of us wanted strategy and something else to make fighting endless hordes somewhat more interesting.
Enter Diablo 2. By adding a horde of various skills and tweaking a lot of code, the original Diablo battle system returns with a punch. Imagine being a huge barbarian: instead of just hacking everything to pieces, you leap 7 meters into the fray, slash a few monsters, block some attacks with your shield, leap out again and just for good measure, give a huge shout to scare off any pursuers. You clamber behind a wall and equip a bow to shoot monsters from between the bars of a jail cell before they catch up to you again and you decide that *this* time, you're going to equip *2* swords and do a huge double slice attack. Sounds a lot better, doesn't it?
The graphics of this game are also highly under appreciated. Everyone seems to think that it looks basically the same...but in reality, the graphics have improved in many, many ways. Take the lighting effects for example: walk around any pillar in a dungeon and you will see some of the most beautiful lighting effects ever created. Every animation is smoother, more pronounced, and easily distinguishable.
But enough about the graphics. Even smaller changes to the game system have made it so much more enjoyable. The concept of "tomes" - huge collections of identical scrolls - have freed up inventory space for everyone's characters. As previously mentioned, the skills system is huge and allows for crazy levels of character customization.
But the biggest, most incredible part of this game is the multiplayer. Diablo 1's major fault was that you could import a character from your single player game and use it online. In addition, a monstrous number of hacks and other programs of that nature went into circulation so that everyone online had the best of everything...where was the enjoyment? There wasn't any - I stopped playing Diablo online very quickly because of the lack of enjoyment. This time around, Blizzard got smart - online characters are stored online and cannot be modified short of hacking Blizzard's character database, because none of the character data is stored on your machine. Multiplayer has become that much more fun because of it.
And last, but not least, the storyline is much improved. No more of this "we live in one town and walk into the same dungeon to fight everything". Diablo 2 actually has something of a storyline, and a new quest system that enables you to more clearly see the benefits of doing favors for the townspeople you encounter. In addition, the world map is huge - and easily travelable due to the added concept of waypoints.
To conclude, people who are saying this game is a Diablo 1 clone are obviously not very attentive, or are playing both games without half as much enjoyment as they can offer...

Had enough of your real life? Had enough of The Sims? Then get your computer chewing on Diablo II as soon as possible. Every second you delay keeps you from enjoying another creative wonder from Blizzard. Be prepared to use your brain as well. This game will force you to make important decisions before and during gameplay. While this may frustrate some lazy gamers, Blizzard knew that a little extra strategy and a lot of user choices are all part of a great gaming experience...(plus an Amazon in shining armor).
One of the best strategy games ever

Even though I usually try to avoid dark and satanic-oriented games, I just couldn't resist checking out this Blizzard title. After playing this a while and comparing it to the first Diablo game it is by far much better. The graghics are slighty improved though nothing huge but the gameplay was extremely addictive and much better than the first. There are so many strategies you can execute and all the blood and gore makes even more exciting to play (I am not saying I glorify it at all) The levels are awesome and well made by the Blizzard development team. This is just about perfectly made. Really. Buy it today! Also if you are into strategy games try checking out C&C: Red Alert, Alpha Centauri, Total Annilation or Myth 2.
This game is for all Diablo fans

For a while I have been playing Diablo 1, but recently I've started playing Diablo 2 since I've gotten it. I like this game, it is longer (if you have played Diablo 1 then you know it is very short!!!), it has better graphics, you can chose to be five different characters opposed to 3 different characters in Diablo 1, and it has a very good story to it. This game (so far) is a very well worth it game, the only bad thing about it is the hard drive space it needs, but if you have alot of space on your computer you should have a very fun time with this game!
One of the best games I have played recently.

I was over at a friend's house today, and I got the oppurtunity to play one of the most fantastic and exhilerating games I have played in years. The graphics were unchanged from the first Diablo, but so smooth and lively that it really didnt matter. I was not at all a huge fan of the first Diablo game, I thought it was far too complicated with magic scrolls to use any types of magic and without having mastered the "art" of using your mana and potions correctly, you were doomed to failure in the levels which required more skill. I played for a mere hour before leaving for a previously scheduled arrangement, and I did not want to leave the screen of the computer. I did, but by force and just a few moments ago I purchased my own copy of the game. This addition to the Blizzard games should not be one passed by; it has much less complicated game play and, in my opinion, is much more appealing than the first Diablo.
FUN! FUN! FUN! .... REPETITIVE! REPETITIVE! REPETITIVE!

Diablo II lived up to the hype, no doubt about that ...but it's fun fails in comparison to the first Diablo. Why? Because Blizzard didn't bother to change the gameplay one bit.
Yep ..its EXACTLEY the same. Of course, that's not really a bad thing considering how great the gameplay is BUT it's just sooo sooo ...REPETITIVE!! All Blizzard needed to do is add more depth to the gameplay, and it would of recieved a perfect score. But still, while repetitive .. it's very replayable and fun ..especially since Diablo II has Battle.net to back it up ;)
Another thing that remained the same is the graphics. Yup, no change at all ...or so I think.
Sound ...great
Control ...so easy
So is Diablo II worth buying? Of course. But don't expect too much out of it or you will be dissapointed.
In my opinion, the first Diablo is better.
The series needs to end here, period.
...But of course it won't ;)

This is a great game with good reply value, even though some do not find it. Ther is 5 ifferent characters, barbarian(run in and keep hitting untill everything is dead, drink some reds and you're fine again)
Necromancer- send your skeletons and golems(who will become VERY powerful as you gain levels, and yes you do get experience for monsters your "pets"killed)to fight for you
Paladin- run in and keep hitting everything in the name of good untill everything is dead(use less reds, but more healing, and such auras
Amazon- stand next to the doorway and kill everything with ranged weapons like javelins and arrows, fall back to get some space between you and the monster if you have to
Sorceresss-same as amazon, but use ranged spells instead, anduse some magic shields to protect yourself
The game has countless monsters, and they are much more dangerous in big groups than alone. The game has different skills for each character, which help you to decide your character's path(ex- do you want your barbarian to be a sword master, thus forcing him to use 2 hand swords and giant swords or master of club-like weapons, which would force him to use double axes and maul) there is a countless number of magical items, unique items, item sets and rarte items. all of them have different things to ad to yuo, and you may try and get a certain collection(for example, in act 2 it is possible to get a set of items that aren't supposed to be a set, but they are all thorned, and as such cause damage to the enemy just by hitting you, and you can get fortune set, which would give you a fast way of getting rare, unique and magical items, etc) The game's map does change with different characters, which may get confusing, but it adds to the replay value. Waypoints are spaced apart, but if you can get to one, then the whole area between those 2 waypoints becomes sort of easier, since you have the ability to retreat to a town at any moment. Youd do have to quit the game to save, and it will leave you back in the city with all the monsters when you restart, but if those monsters didn't restart, you would ahve a lot more trouble getting experience. and it is just obvious to start in a safe zone.
Plenty of flaws.. but a whole lot of fun.

I think it's quite customary for people to critize a game, once it is massively successful. There will always be that 15% who will dedicate their life to critizing and hating it. It's human nature, and this is because everyone want's to sound like an 'expert'. Those who hate DiabloII just hate it to sound like a critic. After all who would know better than an expert, right?
Diablo2 is Diablo 1, just 3 times bigger. The graphics are average however. Now the reason why the graphics are not much of an improvement, is due to the fact that this game was started 2-3 years ago! Now it's a HUGE game, and the second and third acts are actually gorgeous. The last Act is breath taking in grpahics aswell. The first act is a bit dissapointing, however is it fun? The answer is a simple yes. How much fun? The answer is, more addictive than crack. The RPG elements are alright, the customization is excellent. The prime fun is the action. It's addictive and having fun is the main objective. That's what you have.. fun. This game is not for you, if you are more into the strategic RPGS, like Baldur's Gate. But if you want a game, which gives you a lot of action based fun, this master-piece is for you. The only lows besides the graphics, are that after 7 hours of addictive playin, you realize that all you are doing is clicking. But, my word it's a lot of fun. ...
