I have owned Diablo II for a while now, and I must say it is definitely a worthy follow-up to Diablo (which was a classic, in my opinion). What makes Diablo so fun and addicting is the myriad of items you can get, which is basically limitless since the computer generates them on the fly. You can never have "all the best items", it seems you always have a chance at finding a new, exciting item, even when you are very high level. The game also generates all of the levels on the fly (just like the orginial), so it is never exactly the same. This gives it excellent replay value! Also, the skill trees were a neat addition in this game, giving you many ways to develop each character class.
The one caveat I would place on this title is that you need a very powerful system to run it smoothly. My old Pentium II 300 with 64 MB of RAM choked pretty bad on this game, but my new Athalon 800 with 256 MB of RAM runs it seamlessly, even with MP3s playing in the background.
No new terrain...just great entertainment...

While this doesn't introduce anything groundbreaking over the first Diablo, it does continue in the same entertaining path. The one drawback is that you have no in game save feature. Truly a bummer! The storyline is entertaining. The cinematic cut scenes are what we've come to expect from Blizzard. Overall, the game is a sequel to the original in storyline. It would have been better if Blizzard had been able to incorporate some new technology into the game engine or into the graphics. But, those drawbacks aside, if you enjoyed Diablo, you'll enjoy this one. If you have never seen, or played the first one, do not feel bad. You will not be completely lost in the storyline and the game play doesn't rely on any previous experience.

I bought this game thinking it would be outstanding. Boy was I sorry. Dioblo 2 is way to much like the first one. And the most bothersome problem for me is that it got boring really quick and there are virtually no replay values. Actally no replay values, I conquered the game and now it is sitting on the shelf collecting dust. If you want to spend money go somewere else.

That's right, this game is so addictive that I can compare it to the greatest show on Television. and no, I am not an emplyee of Blizzard Entertainment. This game merely represents what every person who has ever stepped near a computer game dreams about. It represents a compellation of thousands of factors that contribute equally to making this game one of the top-selling games of all time. Now, looking non-objectively at the game, you come to a logical conclusion that is a bit unerving: this game should not be fun at all. The millions who bought this game the minute it came out should have sent it back in a maddened rage. Sure, it's got an earily beautiful environment, great music, and expansive story line, but it's just LEFT AND RIGHT CLICKING! That's it, folks. But don't let that deter you from buying it. There is something about this game that is so fantastic, that even in using only two buttons, it is the greatest game that I have ever played and most likely ever will play.
There were times when my entire thought process was consumed by nothing but Diablo, when all I could think about was beating the game, beating it over and over and over. It's like a drug! And as well it should be, since visually and conceptually, this IS a masterpiece.
Some of the stuff in the game couldn't be emulated into a FEATURE FILM! Honestly, it's that good. And there's something about the grandure of the game, something that makes you say, "wow. I'm fighting the forces of hell, so I must be important,"
Additionally, the visual makeup of this game is quite pleasing. It features a stunningly gothic setting, one that makes you think, but sometimes in the wrong way. Yes, that's right, sometimes it get's too gothic. Blizzard's interpretation of what hell looks like (that's right, you fight in hell in this game) is a bit too scary for most people, even for me. There were times when I had to just say "man, this is way to freaky" and turn the game off. After which I would turn it back on and play for a few more hours.
Well, I'm running out of space, so I should cut this short. In retrospect, Blizzard has done it again. I'm also a Starcraft fan, and let me tell you, Blizzard knokws it's stuff. They are virtual gods of gaming. They take simplicity and make it seem so complex, so vital, that you will play their games for days at a time. So, if you love a good story, and enjoy playing games for long periods of time, buy this game.
One more thing: try not to play this game when it's dark outside. It's just too scary.
A good dose of fun

The controls: They are pretty basic. You click on the ground to move there, and you click on monsters to start hacking or shooting at them. I like this setup- no pauses, you can assign hotkeys for different spells and attacks, and it doesn't take long to master.
The Graphics, sounds, etc: The graphics without the expansion pack are pretty pitiful- 640x480 resolution. The sound is good- creepy music and nice grunts and growls, etc. I experienced a few errors and freeze ups, but I can safely say that Diablo II is stable.
Plot, characters: The plot is pretty basic- destroy evil guy, kill monsters, recover items. The characters are nicely balanced, my personal favorite is the Amazon.
Note: This game is not for all people. If you prefer a more relaxed D&D style with dialogue and pauses, then Diablo II is not right for you. It can get downright scary running through a dark lair with monsters popping up all over the place and disconcerting music playing. The gore is pretty intense also.
All in all, Diablo II is a great game. If not for the graphics and the sometimes repetitivness of the game, I would give this a five star rating.

I was one of the first true Diablo fans. Actually, I'm a fan of blizzard period due to their dedication to the fans in making an attempt to bring the best games to the most users. Diabo II is beyond all expectation. The graphics have improved, the sound is better, theirs more of everything, and its a heck of a lot larger. But that doesn't make it a good game. What makes it good is the storyline, which is one of the best ever created. The cut-scenes, the townspeople, even the non-interactive creatures that wonder around bring about a truly realistic gaming experience. With todays technology anyone can put together a game with good graphics and sound, but it takes something more to draw the gamer in and make him want to come back for more. The 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the steeper requirements which I dont think are acurate to the box. I can't imagine playing it on a 233. I have a 350 PII and experience slow down occasionally before a big sequence or when your hit with 30-40 bad guys. Minor drawback but it pound-for-pound the best RPG ever. BRING ON WARCRAFT III!
Another Classic to add tothe first

With the same interface as the origonal, I really appreciated the familar hit keys, with the addition of new ones. The run feature as well as the alt key to see items on the ground make Diablo II a great game. It has 4 parts, each as long as the origonal Diablo, and a lot more challenging. If you like the origonal Diablo, I'd highly suggest purchasing it's sequal. If you havn't played it, and you like RPGs.... I would recommend trying it at least from a friend who owns it. Look on the box for all the need little things they've added, there's not enough room to mention them here... I'm very picky when it comes to sequals, and this one rose above my expectations.
Very Good

In my opinion this is a great game. A lot of people are complaining that the graphics are too much like the first Diablo. Well I am glad for that. My old computer is just good enough to hold this game on it and if the graphics were too much better and more dazzling, well I wouldn't be writing a review because I couldn't play the game. The story line is very good and so are the cinematics. No blocky jerky stuff on them at all. I haven't played any other classes other than the barbarian, which I beat the game with yesterday, so I cannot expand on classes, but the new skill trees are quite nice. And so are the quest boxes and the addition of way-points. The game has a few down falls to. The only way to save the game is to exit to. So instead of having the same option you have the "Save and Exit" option. Another down fall it that the monsters respawn when you leave the game. So if you are in a place with no way point near, but you have to go, you're going to have to work your way back to where you were before. The stash option is very nice, but there isn't alot of room. So stuff I'd normally just drop on the ground has to be sold or kept in my inventory taking up space. If I leave things on the ground, they will dissapear when I save and exit. Although this game is missing a few features I liked from the first game, it is still much harder and very addictive (until my eyes get droopy and I get a head ache from the screen) :) I think this game deserves the 5 stars I gave it. One thing: I got the Special Edition version of the game (the game itself is the same) and it came with a DVD that I cannot get to work on my DVD-drive. Any help?
Best Game Ever!!!

The Graphics are not the greatest anyone has seen, but no other game provides as many hours of fun as Diablo II does. One of the real advantages of this game is you can just install it and play. You don't have to read a book the size of "War and Peace" to understand how to play. You level up at a rate that makes you want to never stop playing. This game also has the perfect balance of Magic Items and different things to make you want to keep adventuring. I've played it all the way through with every character class and enjoyed a different experience each time. I bought the expansion pack and played each character through that. I'm waiting for another expansion or something. I just can't get enough of this game! Every Blizzard game released is a good quality game. If your sick of getting games that don't work that well or are full of bugs before and after patches are applied(ie Buldar's Gate, the new Pool of Radiance), you can find comfort in the fact that Blizzard doesn't release garbage software in a cool box. They put excellent software in a cool box. They also provide great quality FREE on-line play at Battle.net. Blizzard is a top-notch company devoted to top-notch gaming software. Blizzard is a member of an elite group of software companies that take pride in their products.
