Near perfect game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

Zelda64, though often tedious and complicated, is a wonderful game with rich, legendary graphics and much to offer.

This is the first Zelda game I have played, my brother got it for christmas, and I must say I was impressed. The characters don't just stand like a statue and watch you do stupid things, they interact with you. Ridiculously hard to the extent where you wonder what the creators were thinking, considering younger children will play this, some of the challenge's solutions are so obscure, to the point where there is a remote chance you'll think of it. This game took me about 3 weeks, at age eleven, my brother about one month. The only big mistake is the plot. It's save the world and the princess, who sits around the whole time waiting for you to rescue her, from being destroyed. If you're a girl, this could be slightly irritating, if you're a boy, I think you could care less. On the other hand, this is the same crud we get from most of nintendo's games...

Despite a flimsy plot, the most irritating save-me princess bit, Zelda64 is a wonderful game. For majora's mask, this is going to be a tough act to follow!

Better than Wind Waker!

I played Wind Waker, and it is very frustrarting and it is short.
Don't buy Wind Waker, buy Ocarina of time. Also try A Link to the Past.

this game is cool, i have got realy far on the game it is so cool.it has a place with gards and you have to get past them to get to the princess but thats after you get the first stone, then you have to get two more stones and then go to the castle during the day but the drawbrige will still be up the zelda will come out on a white horse then ganondorf will come out on a black horse zelda will throw you the orcania of time then you have to go to the temple of time and play the song of time zelda will teach you the song of time trough your mind then the door to the triforce will open, then go in and pick up the sword and you will become an adult.the game is realy good anyway.

Interesting graphics and cool items

Zelda "occarina of time" is much like the rest of the Zelda series... it doesn't disappoint! With really cool items to collect and using your songs/spells to warp around, the entire game offers whole new dimensions.

Things such as a horse you can call and run about the world, play carnival-like games to win power-ups, collect hard-to-find items such as the two-handed sword (which is better than the master sword, but you can't use a shield), magically powered arrows, and more!

This game is fairly easy to beat, but finding everything will take you much longer!

Zelda, a legacy to live on.

It IS a good game, but it has a few fatal errors

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 9

This game, while being better than most on the market ( especially N64 games ), had a few fatal errors that prevented it from attaining its rightful status of " one of the best RPG's of all time ". Still, I will start with the good points.

Number one, the graphics in this game are amazing. The gigantic bosses, cool looking enemies, and wide variety of terrain are some of the most amazing I have yet encountered.

Number two, the interactive aspect of the game is unmatched by any other. This is the first RPG where you get to look up close and personal at the meticulously detailed faces and areas that you travel to. You can swim in water, run around in an enchanted forrest, and even ride a horse! The interactivity of this game is unmatched. Its not like the still backgrounds in FF VII & VIII or the repetitive, fixed overhead view of past, less advanced RPG's. In this one, you get to see everything close and interact with it. Quite an amazing feature!

Now,on to the negative aspects of this game.

First off, there is the difficulty. I am not speaking of fighting monsters or bosses; that part is not a big challenge. I am talking about the standard puzzles that you must figure out. It is next to impossible to get through this game without a strategy guide. At first, things aren't so difficult, and the balance of puzzles is about right. But after a while, the difficulty just gets totally out of hand. Particularly frustrating is the Water Temple level. I am jot joking when I tell you that I almost gave up playing the game right then and there. All the rooms in this level pretty much look the same, and it is very confusing raising and lowering the water levels while trying to do this and that and etc. etc.. Many of the other temples are to difficult as well. This game in general has to many puzzles. Puzzles are fine, but not when they take over a game that is NOT supposed to be a puzzle game! Of course every RPG has little things that you have to do here and there to advance in the game. But Zelda, being an N64 game, lacks the memory to put INTERESTING little objectives in ( unlike most other RPG's ), and instead gives boring puzzles that aren't interesting.

The second problem is the lack of replay vaulue. Though this game MIGHT have a lot of replay value ( such as sidequests and stuff ), the difficulty of the the sidequests and goals is, at times, nothing short of insane. The Gold Skultulla collecting side goal being a good example. I have a strategy guide, have beaten the game twice, and still am short about 20 Gold Skultullas.

The third problem would be the overall game play. The battle system itself is nothing to get excited about either. You don't get any level ups, you get some interesting offensive items, But hardly any interesting weapons themselves, and there is no skill or fun in fighting ( just hit the attack button, pull up your shield, then hit the attack button...repeat the process until enemy is defeated ). And the world of Zelda, while looking great and interesting, gets old fast.

The fourth problem is the plot and character development itself. While I am not one to totally ignore a game simply because it has "cutesy" graphics, I still think that, in a monumentally important game such as this one, they should gear things somewhat towards the tastes of individuals over the age of 8. But this is not the case. All the Characters look like they came out of a Pokemon cartoon. And as far as the plot ( "plot". yeah, like its really worthy of such a title! ), its the same old thing: Princess in a magical, psuedo-medievil world gets captured by an evil guy ( Gannondorf in this case ), heroic young man who has some sort of "intimate" relationship with the princess must go and save her, fighting a slew of evil villains along the way, and, well you know. I would recommend Zelda to anyone who is looking for a good game to play through, as it is such a game. But, if you are looking for one with a lot of replay value and interesting character development, skip Zelda, as it will bring you nothing but disappointment. My advice is to either get it for cheap used or rent it or borrow it from a friend.

It's just not Zelda

While this game does hold together on its own, it just isn't Zelda as we know it. It's far too dark and serious, and the playing style is nowhere near the first four Zelda games. Those of us who remember the early NES Zelda games as children and teenagers will be heartbroken after being exposed to this game.

On another note: How did Ocarina of Time get an ESRB rating of E? After playing this game and feeling how dark it is, I think it should get a rating of T (teens and up) instead.

The blast that was heard throughout the world in 1998.

Ocarina Of Time is definitely the best game on the Nintendo 64.Super Mario 64,Perfect Dark and F Zero X are awesome but Ocarina Of Time is the best out of any other game on the system. What else is there to say about a game that changed the way we look at Role Playing games forever? The graphics are awesome(some Game Cube games dont look this good) the music adds excitement and the challenges are excellent.Whereas the difficulty in Super Mario 64 stayed pretty much the same throughout the game Ocarina Of Time gets harder when you get to be a better player. Also you get an extra heart after beating bosses because youll need it.Its very challenging I still havent beaten it and am not sure if I ever will.Easy games can be a lot of fun but they just arent as substantial as a game like this. The challenge makes it fun as well as the graphics and controls. Its just a great game and is a must for any Zelda fan or just someone who loves challenging games.

This game Graphically stunning from the start, has some minor flaws, when you play the game it begins with a mystic tree talking to a fairy, telling her to go to the "boy without a fairy" you then go to a first-preson er, fairy view and fly through a forest full of children full of fairys, as you can tell a plotline has already been placed, the fairy wakes the sleeping boy, soon an adventure begins, you guide him to the tree upon obtaining a few items and talking to a few people, once there you will find the tree, enter inside, it and save it, recieveing an item you leave the forest, the time passing in this game is incredible, at day it's a beuatiful world and all is well, while at night you are cut off from the castle and the only safe thing to do is wander avoiding creatures on the once peaceful plaines of Hyrule. You travel to many cities and towns doing many amazing things, the only problem I've had was the Water Temples' sadistic puzzles, and slowdown but no harm done, this is truly a game above all others (with the exception of Mario64) I feel if this is a gift to someone, thier parents will say you are spoiling the child, this my friends is what makes Nintendo what it is.

Will we ever see any other game better than this ?

If anyone needed a reason to own a Nintendo64, then this is it. To say this game is good is a complete understatement, its simply incredible. Graphically it is superior to anything else on N64, beautiful animation - fantastic 3-D views. The music is lovely, sound effects spot on and we haven't even gone onto the best part of this game, the gameplay. Its just a joy to play, you will be hooked after an hour, and its very difficult to put it down. The combat system is out of this world, the puzzles will keep you going for a long time !, just everything is incredible. I have seen some reviews elsewhere that criticize some elements of the game , but I urge you to ignore them - as you will be SERIOUSLY impressed with the best game ever made - period. 5/5. Perfection.
