The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of those games that you will continue to play even after beating it several times. It is the kind of game where you beat it, put it away for a year, take it out, and experience the magic all over again. Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda set in a 3-D world, and this is part of what makes the game so magical. 3-D allows the world to "come to life," so to speak, so the player feels like he is in the world, exploring it, and not just a player of a game. The world of Hyrule is quite vast, making your journey always fresh and exciting, while visiting old places brings an attunement with the world that you can't get from level-based games. This is one of the things that make the game great. Another aspect is the gameplay itself- controlling Link is easy and fun. The game will tell you what you can perform by showing a green circle with a word at the top of the screen: one button allows you to push blocks, climb ledges, etc. The absence of a jump button relieves the frustration of accidentally falling off a cliff. Combat is inventive and easy to handle: with the Z target system, you can ready your shield to block attacks, sidestep around the enemy and strike him from behind, and a lot of other neat moves. The game is non-linear, so while you have to play the dungeons in a certain order, you can take a break from it and explore the lands searching for heart pieces, or complete a side-quest, play a mini-game, or just have fun running around the world. The items work incredibly well too, such as the fairy bow, which shifts you to a first person view (except when Z targetting) to allow incredibly easy usage. Today, Ocarina of Time has been flawlessly ported to the Nintendo Gamecube, and with that console's extremely low price, and a controller that is better than the N64 one, there's no excuse for not being able to at least try the magic that is Ocarina of Time.

Greatest of the great.

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time must be the greatest videogame ever created. Its certainly the best game I've ever played, and probably always will be. Of course, every Zelda game is excellent, but this is definitely the jewl in its crown.

It is an old game now of course, but that does not affect it at all. It is a timeless classic that will be remembered forever. But why is this game so good? Well, having recently beaten it, I will say why.

First of all, when Ocarina of Time came out for the N64 in 1998, Its graphics were completely unmatched. They were like no game before them. It was the first game to master gaming in three dimensions, and the result was spectacular. Needless to say, the graphics are not too impressive nowadays, and have lost there luster among the photo-realistic graphics we see today. However, everything else about it has not.

The Ocarina of Time is set before any other Zelda game. You, a young Kokiri boy named Link, (Although in the game, he's called whatever you name him), is summoned on a grand quest to defeat an Evil King named Ganondorf, and, in doing so, save the entire world. To do this, Link must traverse through eight huge dungeons, collecting Magical Stones and Sage Medallions, along with several items and weapons that will aid him on his quest. I won't give away too much of the story, but it is quite deep, and is told brilliantly. Its great to play a game and have the feeling that you are actually doing something. The game starts out quite lighthearted for the first half or so, and then becomes quite dark. Some of it may give you the creeps; I know it did to me. The game itself is just huge. In fact, thats an understatement. It is perhaps the biggest world ever created for a videogame. There are several different towns and cities. Kokiri Forest, home to the Kokiris, Hyrule Castletown, Kakariko Village, Goron City, home to the giant Gorons, Zora's domain, home to the water-dwelling Zora's, and much more. Just when you think you've seen it all, another area is uncovered. Traversing around this land is a pain at first, but becomes a breeze when you get your faithful horse, Epona. Riding this horse is like a game in itself; it is just for some reason very very fun. Anyone who's played a Zelda game knows that it does not follow a level-design. You will stay in the world of Hyrule the entire game, and go through the same places again and again. Now, this may sound like it would be boring, but it is not. Play it and see why. Since the game is not designed with levels, and is quite non-linear, the game gives you a massive amount of freedom. Tired of walking through the dank Shadow Temple? Then why don't you go and ride your horse just for fun? Or go play the fishing game? Or search for heart pieces? Complete the shooting game in Kakariko village? Go talk with the 30 or so different people in Hyrule Town? Search for hidden areas? Or just explore? The possibilities are endless.

The excellent gameplay we expect from Zelda's nowadays is at its best here. The game requires you to think to beat this game, as each dungeon is laden full of progressively harder and harder puzzles and challenges. I'll admit, I checked the walkthrough a couple of times, (Most notably some parts of the Shadow Temple), but I tried to refrain from it, as it is much more fun and rewarding to figure things out yourself. As always, playing a Zelda game is just extremely fun. Once you pick up a controller, you will not want to put it down.

However, you will also need to be quick with your sword and other such weapons to beat this game. There are dozens of enemies in this game. Some are absolutely pathetic, and aren't even worth the trouble, while others will give you an intense fight. Link must battle the skeletal Stalfos warriors, giant lizards, axe-wielding Iron Knuckles, and dozens of bosses. The bosses have always been a big part of Zelda games, and there is at least one in every dungeon, and many times two. The bosses in this game are all very well done, and are for the most part quite challenging. An innovative lock-on camera is vital to beat your enemies, as it allows you to always be pointing at your target, and always attack and defend in the correct direction.

Playing as Link is very fun. Link himself is like a multi-purpose warrior, and can wield dozens of different weapons. Sword, Shield, Bow, Warhammer, and more. He is extremely agile in combat, and can perform several different attacks with his sword. He also wears several different clothes, boots, and gloves that do different things. With his Goron Tunic, Link can withstand great heat. With his Zora Tunic, Link can breath underwater. As you go through the game, you will collect more and more items, all of them vital to your success. And of course, there is the item referred to in the title, the legendary Ocarina of Time. You learn 12 songs for your ocarina, some of them optional, some required, all of them useful. Saria's song allows you to talk with your friend Saria as well as your fairy, Epona's song summons your horse, and there are seven different songs that warp you to different places.

This game is like no other. It is the jewl of Zelda series, and is the jewl of videogaming itself. You haven't played a game until you've played this.

This is the best game. Ever.

I've had this game for about 8 years, and I still crave to play it every single day. I have all the other cool games for X Box and Playstation 2, and this one, in my opinion, blows them all out of the water. I think that an N64 has the best games that were ever made.

The best game ever, better than a sports game!

THIS GAME RULES!!! I have had this game for years, and it is still an equal amount of joy and pleasure each time I play it! The Legend of Zelda was the second game I bought for the legendary system of Nintendo 64. I was frustrated at first, but I got the hang of it's cool gameplay. This review WILL help you make your'e desicion. Buy this game NOW. It will AMAZE you forever. It takes place in the magical land of Hyrule, where you must foil the evil Ganondorf, most powerful dark lord EVER, or Hyrule will fall to his wrath. Their are TONS of levels in this game, and unforgettable moments. Lots of cheats make this a COOL game. The music is VERY catchy. Any true gamer would own this a BRILLIANT peice of art!!! And if you like this game, you will also like the rest of the series.

This game is the best game ever. The whole series for N64 and Gamecube is the best. It has a deep and interesting story with all sorts of interesting, lovable characters. I love this game so much that my friends hate me for talking so much about it!

Graphics: 4/5 excellent, but can be a little better.
Sound: 3/5 good. There are voices, but they only say things like "oh" or something when text comes up.
Music: 4/5 I think it's really great, but my mother thinks it's repetative. She thinks that all music is repetative though.
Gameplay: 5/5 Could'nt possibly be better

This game can be saved at anytime and has three saving slots.

If you don't at least try this game, you're missing out on a lot!

I love this game.

I love this game. I love this game. I love this game. I just got Ocarina of Time and it's been a few years since it has come out - it still rocks even in comparison to what's out now. I've had a Playstation 2 for a couple of years and have had a good game here and there, but after playing Ocarina of Time, I realize that I had forgotten the beauty of Nintendo games. They just have a special feel to them (and they make me remember the years that I was a little tike playing old Nintendo games). I just beat the game about 5 minutes ago. I certainly won't spoil anything, but I will tell you that the ending is over 30 seconds long and is something worth playing through the game to see... A video game hasn't brought me this level of satisfaction in a while. Bravo Nintendo, bravo.

Awesome Time-Killer!

ok... let's face it, the best games ever made were not made last tuesday. OLDER SYSTEMS!!! When I was younger I found out about the N64. There were only 3 games I knew about. Mario party, pokemon snap, and legend of zeda ocarina of time. This game was the best of all. The game had the most amazing gameplay EVER. You start as a forest boy who canont gro up then go on a quest to save the land of Hyrule. With the classic sword and sheild you fight ghosts, zombies plants, gone mad dinosors, witches and one mad ameoba! You eventouly turn into a teen and Part 2 begins! The game seems to go on for ever and ever! Unless you are one amazing gamer this game should provide months of gameplay! All in all this is the best game ever.

Incomparable to any other RPG or game in particular

Okay, let me first say that this game will always have a place in my life. It's the major reason why I keep my N64 around even in this day and age. This game, simply put, rocks. The story, flawless. The side missions, great. The animation, very good for N64. Here's the story:

In the Kokiri Forest, a young boy named Link lives. He is the only Kokiri without a fairy, and he is The Chosen One, destined to wield the Master Sword and destroy the evil Ganondorf. As a child, you must collect the three Spiritual Stones from the Kokiri, the Gorons and the Zora to open the door to the Sacred Realm, the place where the Master Sword is. You pick up the Master Sword and wake up seven years later, with a new mission. Ganondorf is now the Evil King of Hyrule. The only people who can stop him are the six sages. But five are being suppressed by Ganondorf's evil, and Link must venture to their temples and destroy the evil suppressing them and awaken the sages. And then, finally, confront Ganondorf in a final showdown. But even if Link beats him, is it really over...

So, there you go, compelling story, hard bosses, you name it, OOT has it. Ciao!

The Best Game EVER

This was my first zelda game, but it blew me away. The story was remarkable, full of adventrue, mystery, even a bit of romance. The bosses were challenging and it was hard to anticipate what was going to happen next. The music was captivating and it was so fun that once you beat it, you want to do it again.
