THE BEST GAME EVER!

I though that Zelda was realy fun. I like the way you start out as a kid and you get to travel through time from an adult to a kid but the game is almost inpossible with out an players guid. The game has a great plot too. I don't think you could have a n64 without it.

Good, but not the best

I own an N64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I preordered it so I was sure to get it the first day. Well when I brought it home I was ecstatic. I couldn't wait to sit down and play it. For the first week I was playing it a lot then gradually I slowed down and finally stopped playing it altogether. I got to the water temple and that was it for me. I lost interest. As I progressed further into the game I felt like I was forcing myself to play it. The graphics were superb, play control was great, the soundtrack is excellent, and the battle system works great too. You might be asking yourself now what my problem with this game is.

The major part of the game which disappointed me to a great degree was the plot. It's as thin as paper. It didn't keep me interested at all. I found it to be too predictable. Whenever I played it I got a sense of deja vu. How many times has the princess been kidnapped now? I know this is more a prequel to the other games, but c'mon it's getting a little old.

Lets face it guys, this game is pretty easy. Sure there are a couple parts where people are liable to get stuck, but normally the puzzles were easy to figure out.

I'm a big rpg fan myself and one of the main reasons why I got the N64 was for Zelda and any other rpgs that were to be released. I got my 64 on Christmas 97 and I was really excited. Well other than Zelda, there is still yet to be a decent rpg on the N64. Please don't try to tell me that Quest 64 is a good game.

Zelda is pretty good but it was missing the plot aspect. It still surprises me that people refer to this as "The Best Game Ever". That is probably the biggest exaggeration I've heard, next to the "Blair Witch Project" being "scary as hell". I'm going to continue holding on to my N64 with hope that a great rpg will someday be released. Fortunately, I also have a Sony Playstation. They have enough great rpgs to keep me busy for a long time (Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics to name a few).

Bottom line, the game itself is relatively simple and the plot is thin and basically the same as any other Zelda game. It's a good game, not great, and is most certainly NOT that best game ever.

Disappointing

All the reviews of this game rave "Perfect!" and "Excellent!" (Except for one, which called it "too dark." If you think this game is too dark, you probably are disturbed by the violent content of The Lion King) Don't believe them. They must have all been brainwashed by the hype. The truth is such: The graphics are great and the movement it fluid and dynamic. But the game's beauty is only skin deep. It lacks a true soul. This may be good for kids 12 & under, but those who grew up on the original games will be disappointed. Link's Awakening was excellent. A Link to the Past was excellent. The series should have stayed where it was. Although the game will probably take you a while to beat, it has no true challenge. It has length- but nothing will really rack your brain or make your thumbs bleed. The plot is basically THE EXACT SAME THING as every single other Zelda game, except this time with time travel. The Zelda series itself needs a complete revamping- Ganon is tired and old, and Princess Zelda should either take self-defense lessons or higher some body gaurds. Its too run of the mill and linear. The various creatures encountered in the game are too expendable. Navi the fairy is pointless, and should have been cut entirely out of the plotline. The sages are predictable and pointless. The owl has no real purpose and abrubtly disappeared. Sheik is a freak. In short, this game needs to take a lesson from Final Fantasy- deeper plot, better characters, more magic powers, A REAL ROMANCE, characters that die, etc.

Still One of the Best Games Ever

The classic Zelda franchise made its return to Nintendo with its N64 debut in 1998. Ocarina of Time equals and excedes all past Zelda games in every aspect. From the start of the game, rich graphics, tons of characters, and a well presented story pull you into the game. You'll will be hooked for the entire 60+ hours it takes you to compleate your quest. This game is huge. As you progress through your quest you will learn new songs, magic, ect. And of course there is nothing quite like the final boss battle. Outside in the rain, fighting Ganon. Then you will deliver the final blow and beat the game. Even after compleating your quest, there are so many mini games and extras to keep you coming back. Everything is just so well thought out that this game is any gamers dream come true. No matter what genre of games you like, you simply MUST play this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarine of Time=awesome!

This game is great. With all of the items you can find, weapons you can use, places you can go, and people you can meet it's hard to get bored with it. Most of the weapons are fun to use, like Din's Fire, Farore's Wind, and Nayru's Love. All of the the different places have there own type of people that live there. I found that once I beat Ganon I didn't like what happened to Zelda, but I like everything else. If you wait long enough after it says the end on your screen you'll here you Scarecrow Song! This game is really neat, and I think that anyone that likes adventure games should try it.

An epic classic! Still the greatest game to roam the Earth!!

A long time ago... in the unevolved time of 1985, a video game company emerged on the scene, known as Nintendo... And from a classic platform (genre) named Mario came a new series: The Legend of Zelda....

I love this game so much, I have to play almost all the time. This is THE greatest game to walk the planet. Or roam. Or kill the other video games. Any are true. This classic is the first 3D legend of zelda, and is still an amazing game to date.

Well, if it's such a great game, why's it so good? What makes it good? Here's a fork in the road where opinions split into multiple directions, but personally, I think the freedom of galloping on horseback on a wide, open, orange-green field, courtesy of the setting sun. This is just awesome for me. I never understood the game when I was young, but now I know all the characters, and all the dungeons. Or the whole game. Whatever. Off topic.

Another great thing is the ever-changing environment. In the night, things get noticably unsafer than in the day, just like reality. The gate to the town closes so you have to battle these skull things that rise up out of the ground. The sun sets and rises every few minutes, (which is kinda scary, in 5 minutes it becomes night), and the moon appears when it's nighttime.

Now the BESTEST thing is the interactiveness, and more importantly, the side quests. The Oot is an eploring RPG, so you don't HAVE to do what the plot tells you to do. There are TONS of mini-games to do. One, you can go fishing. Yes, you heard me correctly, F-I-S-H-I-N-G. How cool is that? There's also archery shootouts, on-horseback shootouts, and even a treasure chest game.

There are tons of things you can do in this game. One nice thing is that the game jumps for you, so it's easier to do things. You can swim and ride on a horse. Oh yes, and dive.

The plot is swirling and amazing, truly spectacular. This is THE best storyline I've ever seen in a videogame besides the Windwaker, which is as good, if not better than the Oot, but I'm preferable to the Majora's Mask. I'm not gonna tell you the story, so I don't spoil the excitement of learning what you have to do.

ALL IN ALL, I think the Oot is a must-have game for any N64 or Gamecube owner. It's the revolutionary classic. Once you play the game, that's when you'll realize. If you realize it's the greatest game you've ever played, rock on. If you think it sucks, go to hell.

This, in my opinion, is one of the best games ever. The story line is rich, the characters are interesting, and it is very fun to play. The game strikes a perfect balance between combat and puzzles. It's so exciting when you first take the Master Sword out of its pedestal! However, I think the music tops it all. All the themes are well done, and you get the feeling that Nintendo put a lot of time into the game. Some people like the 2-D Zelda games more, and I respect that, but I like the 3-D ones better. Overall, this is a must-have if you own an N64, and if you don't, well, you are missing out on a very good game.

Perfect

Although I like the SNES Zelda best, you really can't make a game better than this one. Sometimes a game is made that goes above and beyond 5 stars. This game is like that.

A vast amount of items, all found in unique ways. Awesome. Lots of giant evil bosses. Awesome. Lots of underground hidden stuff. Awesome. Lots of weird folk to talk to. Awesome. Time travel in a HUGE mythical world. Awesome. Lots of mini-games to play for cool prizes. Awesome. Just so many awesome things packed into this ONE game. I usually only recommend rentals, but a rental wouldn't do this game justice. You have to buy it, you have to beat it, and you have to find every secret. Live this game, and every now and then, live it again.

I'll also recommend buying some kind of strategy guide, or looking for tips online to find everything. I've heard that there is a giant monsterous eel-like fish in the pond, but I have yet to catch anything like that.

In all ways perfect

Perfect. Just want to let that word sink in: perfect.
The gameplay is innovative. The story is wonderful. The dungeons amazing. Not only are each of these qualities great by themselves, but were linked together like an enormous, complicated jigsaw puzzle.
The controll in the game is nearly unprecdented. I have never seen a game in which the character moves so naturally, for it is common in games for the developer to not gain total controll over the figure.
The gameplay is a very immersive tool. Z-targetting, the best feature, lets Link "target" an enemy. Once targetted, he can jump backwards and to the side to escape a blow. After the jump, you can then do the jump attack which is the most powerful attack as well as other smaller attacks (stab, vertical slash, horizontal slash, etc.) that do slightly less damage. Not to mention an immense array of weapons (bombs, bow & arrows, etc.) that do damage as well. Your other tools, such as hookshot(grappling hook), Ocarina, masks, and others do other tasks such as get you to hard-to-reach plases, play songs, (which you will see about soon) and other actions are used when not in battle.
Link's Ocarina is a wonderful idea. It not only adds to the story (Zelda, the princess, gives it to him to open the "Door of Time) but lets you do different tasks. (the "sun's song" changes it from day to night) Another great idea is the fact that it changes day to night, making it that some things happen only at night (treasure chest game) and others at day (the "bazaar").
The "dungeons", were you spend about half the game, are masterfully compiled. They are, technically speaking, mazes with the Zelda touch: you get to a door, only to find it needs a key, which you find later on.
The music. OHH, THE MUSIC! Each track fits each moment, place, person, etc. remarkably. Koji Kondo did an awesome job of pouring such feeling into each song.
The best element is the story. Imaginative, unique, inspired, "Ocarina" has it all.
It starts with Link as a child (ten or so) and eventually he grows. Not only realistic, but it is immersive. He accidentally lets the "bad guy" (Ganondorf)into the "sacred realm" and Link, in turn, is "sealed" for seven years untill he is old enough to fight away the evil. Meanwhile, Ganondorf becomes king of Hyrule (the land were this takes place) and messes up the entire known world.
All in all, it's perfect. Obviously, there are some things that one person wouldn't like as much (I personally didn't like the great fairy) as the next. But seriously, it's impossible to make a game that EVERYONE agrees is totaly spotless. And that's the point: it's not spotless, it's PERFECT.

the best damned game ever!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the best game I have ever played. Just about everything in the game was amazing. The game had an excellent plot and storyline: A young boy named Link is summoned from his hometown to save his country, Hyrule. He starts out as a young boy, then he turns into a young man throughout the game. It may sound simple to you but as you play the game, it gets more in depth and it's like reading a book -- you have to know what happens next. When I got this game, I couldn't stop playing it. I hate to admit it, but I was very annoyed with the little fairy, Navi, that follows you around and gives you hints. Sometimes a hint isn't necessary and when she'd give the hint in the middle of your concentration, you'd just like to strangle her. But other than that, everything was great. The graphics are wonderful in the game. Now, most girls (including me) dig the way Link looks when he's 17 because he's so well done in the video game. Everyone is done well in the game, especially adult Link, the mysterious warrior, Sheik, and the man trying to destroy Hyrule, Ganondorf. There's also a few mini-games that you can play if you get bored and some of the mini-games will give you things that can help you in your quest for justice and peace.

The plot, graphics, and overall quality of the game are outstanding. This game has changed my life practically, bringing me on the internet all the time to discuss my obsession with this video game with other people who feel the same. I've beaten this game about 40 or 50 times without getting bored -- that's how good it is! By all means, please try this game!
