My opinion... The BEST there is, the BEST there was, the BEST there ever will be!!

I would give this game 10 stars if i could, and im very critical of my games!

This game gave me one of my favorite memories as a kid when i got this and the system at funcoland the day after christmas in 1996. playing this all winter along with Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was some of the best gaming experiences for me.

In 11 days it will be ten years since i have had this game. 10 Years and it is still my all time favorite game. I really wished that Super Mario Sunshine would have been as much fun as Mario 64, but it just wasnt. I'm praying everyday that Super Mario Galaxy is just as good and gives me the same feeling that i had with Super Mario 64. They can delay that game a few years if they have to, just as long as it is as half as good as Mario 64!

Why don't they make more games like this?

Of all of the games today, some of them make me gag. From boring gameplay to bad graphics. It just doesn't add up at all. Not at all. Sure there are some good games today such as Resident Evil 4. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. Gears of War, Halo, Medal of Honor European Assault, and even classic games like super monkey ball, and the unforgettable Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. (Please note I haven't played all of these games). But there are bad games to. Examples such as Sonic Riders, Ant Bully, Redsteel, and Gundam Crossfire. But one game used to stand out. One game used to be one of the best games ever made. One game took out Playstation 1's Crash Bandikoot and Genesises Sonic the Hedgehog at the same time. YES.. at the same time!!! That one game is Nintendo 64's SUPER MARIO 64!!! Now if I remember right, this particular game was by far the best game I have ever played. Pros- I wonder where I should start. The gameplay is by far the best part about the game with Mario's many moves and the large scenery to roam. The graphics are pretty darn bad if you compare it to todays many games. But the graphics were top notch at the time. (Wait a second... how is this a pro? Oh well.) As I was saying the game is amazing. It also brings back memories from the older gamers who remember the first commercial, the first trailer, and the first demo. One word. SPECTACULAR!! Cons- Dated graphics. Thus ends the review. final score gameplay- 10, graphics- 8, value- 10, final score 9.8

The Most Frustrating Thing ON EARTH!!!

I recently tried playing this game, and by this point, my N64 is lucky it didn't get chucked out the window. The first few passes through the first few stages were fine, and pretty fun, but the rest of the game ends up being one long, annoying, tedious, impossible, and frustrating chore.

To start off, the control just isn't good enough to pull off HALF the things you need to do in this game. There are instances where you must execute specific jumps to get you from point A to point B, but half the time, the controller is non-responsive. Especially when it comes to levels that put you high up, this usually means falling...over and OVER again!

To add to this annoyance is the fact that there are no check points. If a level requires you to go to the top of a mountain, and you spend half an hour just getting up there and then you fall, you have to climb the whole thing ALL OVER AGAIN! So if you're like me, and find your self wondering off cliffs every other try because of the awful camera work, you will be playing the same stages over and over with no payoff but one big headache!

Now let's talk about the camera. Throughout most of the game, I found my self fighting IT more than I fought Bowser. It's simply impossible to judge distances based on where the camera is facing at any given time. Pressing the C buttons will move it around, but you have to keep perfectly still in order to avoid suddenly gong sideways or backwards. If you are in a stage where there is a time limit or a complicated jump, this can be particularly fatal.

Adding to this frustration is the fact that it is incredibly easy to over or under jump! This wouldn't be as much of a problem if it weren't for all the levels which require you to get to "the top" of things. Again, if you fall once, that's it, you start all over again. If the game designers weren't going to give you any continue points in these levels, why-o-why did they make it SO FRIGGIN' EASY FOR YOU TO FALL!!!???

There are plenty of levels and stages in this game, and lots to do in all of them. But by the time I cleared one stage, I really questioned whether or not I wanted to even GO to the next. Finally, after reaching a mere 52 stars, my answer is no.

So that's my two cents on this game, I can't beat it, I don't want to beat it. I'd rather go to a Morrissey concert with Kathy Griffin as the opening act than try to play it again. It would me MUCH less annoying than this game!

I think this was one of the first Nintendo 64 games made. Mario has come a VERY VERY long way since it first came out on the NES. It has heaps and heaps of levels, which means it isn't an easy game to finish. I have had it for almost 3 years, and i still haven't finished it! However, it is a very enjoyable game.

A Classic!

This game was the premiere launch game for the Nintendo 64 when it premiered and despite the fact that it is only a single played game, pulls off fun gameplay and great graphics. Despite the fact of newer systems like Xbox, PS2, and even Nintendo's own Gamecube, I would still be happy to have this game sitting on my shelf next to games like Red Faction and Halo. This game prved itself showing off the power that the Nintendo 64 had and showed it off to the loyal people who bought one instead of a PS-X and even those who (like me) bought both a Nintendo 64 and a PS-X. But, not to mince words I'll explain the game. You are Mario one of the most well known characters in video game history. You play through this adventure all in 3D. This was one of the true selling factors of this game as it was Mario's first true step into the Third Dimension (Hushed Gasp). But, the game sold great and over time has proved in it's own right that it is a classic.

How could anybody hate this?!

The 3D age began when Mario was in 3D. A gem for N64!

Graphics: 10/10 For a 1996 game, these look great! It's clear and unfuzzy.

Sound/music 9/10 Nice music and Mario talks!

Gameplay: 10/10 Mario has to go through 15 vast, challanging worlds. Packed with a huge arsnel of moves, he searches for Power Stars in a "mission" there are also hidden stars in the castles! If you get all 120, you get a reward! Also, Mario has three cap Powerups: Invisibility, Metal, and Winged. You have to find them though.

Believe it or not, I think this is one of the finest entries of the series. A must own! It's also being rereleased for the DS!

Perfect
