The second best N64 game ever created

I think that this game is the second best game on N64 you can get. It has a lot of different levels, and great ships. I think it's a very challenging game, and it's enough fun to keep on playing it. I beat the game twice, and I still love it! I think that it's a definite must have N64 game. The only thing it's missing is a multiplayer mode!
Great, but ultimately limited, Star Wars blaster

The success of Star Wars isn't based on the cheesy dialoge, suspect acting or even those dodgy seventies haircuts. No sir. Its based on the fact that people love to watch lots of spaceships shoot lots of other spaceships in, suprisingly, space. So its no suprise then that some of the best Star Wars games have seen you flying an X-wing through space, shooting down tie fighters and pretending your Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles or if your really sad, some other obscure pilot from the trilogy that no one else apart from you has ever heard of ( you know who you are ). And finally we have a game on the N64 that allows us to capture the excitement of those dramatic space battles, by flying an X-wing, over LAND! Actually, thats a bit harsh as this isn't a bad game. It's just that, for me anyway, Star wars is about dogfights out in the final frontier and not over a desert or a forest but oh well. Once you get over that, this does have a lot to recommend it. There's five craft to fly plus three secret craft, the missions are all varied, challenging and fun and, providing you've got an expansion pak, the graphics are awesome. Combine that with the excellent sound and music that really envokes a sense of the movies and it is impressive. The main problem with this game is that it is limited in the long run. Sure there's 16 missions but you'll get through them without too many problems. I finished the game in just over a week and to quote my flatmate who was with me when I completed it ''Is that it?'' Sure there's the medals to get for the bonus misions and secret craft but re-flying missions you've already done to shave a few more seconds off your time or get that one more elusive kill is hardly riveting stuff, particuly when there's widely known cheats to get them all anyway. In fact, the bonus missions aren't that good, with only the battle of Hoth holding any interest as Beggers Canyon is dull and the Death Star trench actually is nothing like the trench from the film. Good but dissapointing as it could have been so much better.
The X-Wing flight sim you've always wanted

First let me say that when this game came out it was everything I wanted it to be. I had played x-wing and tie-fighter on the PC and it was fun but this game has the look and feel like a properly designed flight sim - for each craft you fly has it's own special characteristics. The voices and sounds are fantastic. The levels are varied and imaginitive. However, to be picky, I'd like to see some additions and a Rogue 2 come out. They would include: space combat, with capital ships, the ability to choose which craft you want (some levels simply insist you use the snowspeeder for example), a couple wing-commander-style wingman orders buttons to get another rogue to help kill the tie on your six, and more accurate shots on the complex polygons such as in the cloud city level where sometimes your perfectly aimed shots won't blow up the tabana gas container you want, instead the shots hit the ones behind it, getting you in trouble with the civilian authorities. All in all, though it is one of the best games I've played on the N64 to date and with all the graphics, sound and voice stuffed on a cart instead of a cd, playstation style, I don't have to see a loading...please wait sign. That's worth every penny.
Total immersion

Maybe it is because I was obsessed with the Star Wars Trilogy when I was younger. I owned Return of the Jedi curtains and dressed as a Stormtrooper for Halloween...several years in a row. I feel a natural pull (the FORCE?) toward Star Wars products.
Thus, I was drawn to N64's Rogue Squadron.
Immediately, I felt immersed in the Star Wars universe with Rogue Squadron. It was a fantastic feeling to be able to put your X-wing in open or closed foils mode. I loved the feeling of blasting those AT-ATs and TIE Bombers while trying to control my speeding A-wing fighter. All of this happened while I was being infused with a adrenaline-pumping John Williams soundtrack. Even after I beat the numerous challenges within the game, I still go back and "fly around." And that's the fun of it. You actually feel like you are part of the Star Wars story, and that alone is a great experience.
As a Star Wars fan, I was not disappointed. As a video game player, I was amazed by the quality of graphics (I used the expansion pack), control, and storyline.
This is one game that I will never sell back.
Awesome!

Star Wars Rogue Squadron is one of the best games I have played, the sound is wonderful, the game keeps you intrested, and the gameplay is extremly good. Then we come to the best part of all... The graphics. Well thought environments pop out in each level, and you see the rebel ship cruising across the land as some TIE interceptors cut it off and attempt to destroy it. This game is simply captivating, and the bonus levels you earn as you become better at the game and recieve new medals keep you intrested. So weather you are escorting a convoy of rebel supplies across imperial territory, rescuing rebels from desolate prisons, destroying an imperial base, or Tripping up an AT-AT with your TOW cable; Star wars Rogue Squadron is a definate winner for anyone.
I Would Give a Billion Stars, But I Can't

Rogue Squadron is one of the best Star Wars and N64 games ever. You get to choose from 5 different craft (9 with cheats). The best is the V-wing though. There are a total of 15 missions and 3 more as you progress. The replay value of this game is sweet. The medals make you want to keep playing until you win. 1 downside, though, is the enemies. The toughest ones are the missle turrets and landing craft. The TIEs are no match for a highly souped up X-Wing with Seeker Proton Torpedoes, and advanced lasers and shields. Once you start taking down walkers with the speeder, you can start doing it in your sleep. Also, the voice-overs could be better. Han's stunk, so's did Riekaan and Madine. The missions needed to be more difficult enemy wise because in the Mos Eisley level, a V-wing with Seeker Cluster Missiles can take down those pansy probe droids in a sec. The graphics and play control a pretty good, and better with the expansion pak. You must play this game if you own an N64. Playstation is getting all the good Star Wars games.

This game is the reason I bought the Nintendo 64 system. I was not dissappointed. This game is great. Perfect for Star Wars fans, just as good for those who like flight combat situations. Great graphics, levels, situations... The bar has been raised for other games.

This is easily the best Star Wars game. Great graphics, awesome ships and missions, and challenging. I still haven't gotten all the gold medals, and I've had this game for a year. Only downfall is there's no multiplayer, and no space battles. But those are overshadowed by the rest of the things in this game. A must buy.

I could sit and bore you with a lot of talk--mainly praise--about this game, but I've decided to just show you exactly why this game is the best Star Wars game ever made:
Graphics: 10/10--Great looking levels and ships. And you can use the expansion pack for even better results. But it's not required for gameplay. Very cool.
Control: 10/10--For a game of this genre, you need to control your ships. Here, you can lock onto an enemy and follow it while trying to destroy it. The ships turn on a dime and some are better for certain missions.
Fun Level: 9/10--The missions are long and very fun. However, you can get lost in some, and that gets annoying very quick. Also, the game is not tough...it's not easy either.
Replay Value: 10/10--You'll never get bored with this one. You can receive higher rankings by doing better on missions, and the game is fun, so that's good. Also, with about 10 ships--give or take--you can try your luck at beating the game with other ships.
Overall: 11/10--No, that's not a typo. I'm giving this game more than 10 stars because it deserves it. I highly recommend this game to anybody who likes flight simulators or Star Wars. Great voice acting, control, fun and amazing graphics. Almost beats Goldeneye, but not quite.

If I had to pick one word to describe this game it would be amazing. "Rogue Squadron" pushes the N64 to it's maximum power graphically, which can be further enhanced by an expansion pack (I strongly recommend going with one it makes the game run smoother). The gameplay couldn't be more entertaining, I often wonder how my little Nintendo 64 is able to handle all that this game has to offer. The missions you fly in this game vary from escorting ground troops into combat all the way to launching full foward attacks on monstrous Imperial ships. The AI is pretty strong depending on the difficulty level, but when it comes to your own wingmen helping you out just forget it. Environments in this game are incredible for a Nintendo 64 game and I give the designers alot of credit for putting so much work into them. Can't get you're hands on the new Rogue Squadron "Rogue Leader" for Gamecube? Pick this up to satisfy youre urge, if you do own Rogue Leader or even don't plan on getting it, pick this title up anyways for a hell of a gaming experience.
