Fun if you love pokemon.

This game's main plot is literally none existant. The funniest parts in my opinon was the mini-games and I suppose fighting the elite four. The other modes I did not enjoy as much but if you prefer the Pokemon games on the handhelds then this makes trading and locating Pokemon that you missed if you are just that big of a pokemon collector.

I remember playing this game when i first got my N64 years ago and I loved it. It was very simple to use and offered a great gameplay. Even though its years old by now, its the perfect simplistic gift for anyone who loves pokemon and older gaming.

Despite the fact I've grown out of the Pokemon card game rush, the video games get old for really for anyone, unless you're playing the recently released garbage instead of the retro classics. It never gets old to collect badges and being a stupid kid with a baseball cap, assembling your destructive force of Pokemon, fighting the numerous trainers in numerous stadiums, getting into the hall of fame, and playing the wildly fun mini-games. The only problem with the game is the fact your attacks can miss your opponents and you can get paralyzed. If you love retro classics, you have to like the old-time Pokemon games or there is something deeply wrong with you.

just as good as wii

As a newcomer to the Pokemon world (Just a bit too old when it got popular, but now w/ my own kids, I love it), I've discovered that this game is just as cool as the new one for the Wii. Picked it up used for $2.oo and its just as good as the wii game I got my young boys for $50.

Pokemon Stadium is a Pokemon fighting game for the Nintendo 64--not an adventure game like Red/Blue/Yellow or anything like that. In this game, you fight through different tournaments with your Pokemon, and once you beat everything, you unlock a "Round-2" mode--which I unfortunately don't know much about, since I have yet to unlock it.
You can either use "rental" Pokemon in the tournaments, or you can upload them from your Game Boy games utilizing a device called the "Transfer Pak".
You can only upload Pokemon from the Red, Blue and Yellow versions, however, because this game predates Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire and anything from then on. Also, with a cartridge in the Transfer Pak, you can do different things like trade Pokemon (if there's a second controller, Transfer Pak and Game Boy cartridge plugged in), check out their stats at Professor Oak's Laboratory, and play the game on the television using a thing called "GB (Game Boy) Tower".
WARNING WARNING WARNING: I, personally, do not recommend using Game Boy Tower, because it erased my Pokemon Yellow game when I tried it. Something went kerflooey when I tried to save my progress.
Also, if you upload Pikachu from a Yellow cartridge and you use him without registering him, he'll say his name. This I found to be a nice touch, and I wondered why ALL the Pokemon didn't do this to begin with.

Where Pokemon Stadium is concerned, the pros vastly outnumber the cons, but it might be prudent of me to list them anyway, so here they are:

The game can be very frustrating, specifically where the Pika Cup tournament is concerned. I still can't beat the darn thing.

There is an announcer who comments on the battling. Although it's an interesting touch, some may find him annoying (I don't, really, but I felt it should've been listed). Fortunately, if he gets on your nerves, you can turn him off in the Options menu.

To conclude, I will say that Pokemon Stadium is a really nice game, and I recommend it. However, if you are rather young or sensitive, you may find it a tad disturbing (even though the characters just faint; they don't ever die).

A great game with strange coincidences...

Pokemon Stadium is a great game that allows trainers to battle with the pokemon that they spent sooo much time training on their GameBoy pokemon red, blue, & yellow games! Note: You cannot use pokemon from the gold, silver, crystal, ruby, and sappire games, not to mention FR/LG versions of the game. I used to love playing this game back in 1999, but during the time that I used to play this game, I started to realize strange coincidences that always seemed to work in the enemy's favor! For some strange reason, moves with low accuracy, such as FISSURE, that also terminates one pokemon in a single hit! Would strike my pokemon WAY to often! Just to clarify, this is how it works, FISSURE only has a 30% chance of hitting an opponent, yet it seemed to strike my pokemon every time without fail! I have been know to refer to these coincidences as "Cheat-detectors" Because they only seem to happen if you are literally dominating your opponent! FISSURE is only an example, these "Cheat-detectors" can pop up at any time and effect any attack, you may find your attacks continueously missing you opponents pokemon for no appearent reason!!! These Cheat-detectors also exist in PokeMon Stadium 2, but I am not sure if they exist in Pokemon Colosseum for the GameCube, but I'll bet that they are! This is not so much of a set-back as it is an annoyance, Cheat-detectors dont make the game impossible to win, but they do get in the way of winning as well as annoy you to no end. Pokemon Stadium & Pokemon Stadium 2 are worth the money and are entertaining to play! I recommend buying them, but be ready for lots of strange coincidences that effect overall game play.

Note: If you want to use your Game Boy trained pokemon from Red, Blue, or Yellow version in Pokemon Stadium... You will also need to buy a N64 Transfer Pak!
