Deja Vu...?

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 2
Date: June 10, 2001

When I sat down to play this game I got a strange feeling... some people call it "deja vu." I HAD PLAYED THIS GAME BEFORE! It suddenly hit me that this game was pretty much BANJO KAZOOIE! Hello?! Am I the only game critic in the world to notice this? Sure, it's got some differences. The whole "play the game 5 times so that you can beat it with ALL the kongs" is different, but come on! Who wants to play the game that much anyway? This game became pretty frustrating at times and I grew to hate it. If you liked Banjo Kazooie, you may end up liking Donkey Kong 64... and well, if you are a Donkey Kong fan, definately check this game out... but if you aren't, you really should stay away from this game!

great fun in a box

good but...

this game is really good but i was disappoint by two things:

1. it plays alot too much like banjo kazooie. it seems that they just swapped the scenery and faces of the characters, but the gameplay is pretty much the same.

2. the graphics are good, but strangely enough, i actually think they were better on the old SNES. in this, they're just the typical polygon graphics. in the SNES one, they worked using silicon graphics which made the game look alot smoother...

that said though, this is a pretty good game, and i'd recommend it to anybody looking for a platformer

I really did want this game so I have to immuse myself with it in front of the family. But it is a really good game if you have the time to sit around and play it for a few weeks. The only thing that bothers me about this game is that you really don't know what your mission is unitl you walk into it. I just had to visit there website to look at the cheat sheets on it. But all in all it is a good game if you have some help.

When I first heard about DK64 I knew that I wanted it. So i ordered without renting it and Volia.. I have had hours of Fun playing it. I think that Nintendo did an excellent job in putting together this game. It is also a nice touch to play as different kongs. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

He's back!

I love it! DK is back- but this time he's not alone! He, Diddy, and three new characters have made their biggest debut ever! My only regrets are that you cannot jump on things to kill them. Of course you get to learn lots of really cool moves like the Simian Slam or Hunky Chunky, but it just subtracts from the quality a little. Also, even with the very few animals you can become - who would want to waste ammo to be Rambi the Rhino for less than ten seconds (no offense to Rambi of course - he's a very nice character). Yet, even though it loses some of it's color from game to game - it gains alot in return. So, ecept for a few tiny details- I don't think I could compare with all the 3D worlds, characters, Bosses, bananas, coins, guns, ammo, banana faries, puzzles, and minigames that RAREWARE has to offer. ...............

Well it finally came and it lived up to my expectations! The included expansion pack really helps with a bunch of lighting effects. The game get an extra star simply because of the fact that you can play the original Donkey Kong! All retro fans should be pleased!

5 games in one

DK64 has been a blast to play. Sure, it requires you to go through each level 5 times - once for each character, but it is like a different game for each character. Your frame of mind becomes that of the character with which you are playing. What I like are the different moves that each character has to learn along the way. It is a progressive process much like Banjo-Kazooie, but the graphics make the difference. The mini-games inside each world also make for an "edge-of-your-seat" atmosphere. You are dying to see what's next. Although the game is time-consuming, it is worth every second! A winner!

Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64 is one of the best games created on Nintendo 64. It is like Mario 64 + BanjoKazooie put together but a lot easier. It is challenger but not enough to make you want to stop playing. The only downside is that you have to keep changing characters to get all the golden bananas on each level. Also Tiny Kong becomes very, very, very annoying because she makes indescribable sounds.

A Whole New Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is finally on the N64! I have been waiting a long time for it, wondering what it would be like. Well, it is a lot like Banjo-Kazooie, not that that is a bad thing; in fact, that is a very good thing. The best thing about DK64, however, is not the amazing graphics, or funny animations, or even the wide variety of items available in the levels. The best thing about it is the depth of the gameplay. There are five playable monkeys, and each one is necessary to completing each level. Switching between Kongs adds extra strategy and fun to the game. Overall, this is an extremely fun game, that will surely keep you coming back for more.
