The best single player experience I've ever had on PC

When I think of the noteworthy games I've bought in the past few years: Half-Life, Jedi Knight 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Medal of Honor: Allied Assult, Max Payne. One game still blows them all away in the single player department, and that game is Deus Ex. A detailed and deep first person shooter, whose levels are some of the most enormous and complex I've ever seen. Combine that with an incredible story, so much dialogue and things to examine and read in the game, the developers probably could have written 3 novels with it all. Also, the game's scope and play time are on par with many RPG's out there. The first time through the game my final time was 50 hours (and that's not counting the time I played before reloading...for a first person shooter this is unheard of) You can build your character's skills and personality to suit your tastes and the decisions you make actually effect events later in the game in ways you would never expect in most games. By the time you have made your way through much of the games locales (Paris, New York, and Hong Kong to name a few) and look back, the beginning of the game seems so far away, you'll swear you've been playing a trilogy of games rather than just one, it's just that huge.

I give 4 and 1/2 stars to a great first person shooter RPG

I have had more fun playing this game than any other since the Quake series! You play J.C. Denton a nano technology augmented government agent in a not too distant future.
The game can be played in three different character "modes" making it possible to play it three times with 3 different endings! You can play as a "Hacker" a "Stealth" player or a combat "soldier" or a blend of all.It all depends on the augmentations you choose as you play along. Be sure your computer meets the system requirements, because the graphics are awesome and the sound is excellent especially if you have a soundblaster live card.I own over 50 PC games and this one's right up there at the top. It's a keeper.

Deus Ex - need I say more

This is the first game in first person play that the story line is easily understood that I have played.
Go with the flow, read everything. Best of all sneak up on people and easdrop, there is a wealth of info. to learn from this advantage. First time through I think I killed everything that moved but the best time was going through in stealth. It is not easy so you need to save your game often. As you go through the game you will learn the different moods that JC goes through and it will help you to choose witch of the three ending you will go for. I have found that the choice you make during the game also gives you a differante aspect of the game. All in all I can't wait for Deus Ex 2 to come out.

An awesome blend of action and story. The graphics are well done, but I am playing on a 1000MHZ with a Geforce2. I liked it better than System Shock 2 and maybe even Half Life. Weapon selection is not that wide, but running and gunning is not such a large part that this was an issue for me. The individual map areas are not large, but it pays to explore every inch.

Could This Be A Sleeper Hit?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

Okay, okay... it isn't a 'sleeper' by any deffinition, but with the monster hit, Diablo II, can ride the charts, and this is #85... well... that's just sad.

I've read many a review here at amazon and have read one that I'd like to point out here, the one near this review that gave the game 1 star. Ignore that review, s/he obviously knows nothing of games.

First... Warren Spector (designer, writer, messiah) is the best in the buisness (yeah, screw Ramero and Caremak (sp?)) and this game proves it.

Second... one of the few faults, load times. I've never waited 5+ minutes for a game to load. But: a) that's the fault of the modified Unreal engine, not the programmers b) the game's worth it.

Third... the game is endlessly fun to play, with intense replayability. You can (and occasionally have to) run and gun a bit, but there is usually another way around a situation, you can snipe out the guards and move on, you can avoid fighting all togethor by going through the vents, you can hack security and turn turrets on the guards, or even (occassionally) release a caged beastie to handle it for you. If this sounds alot like System Shock 2, that's because it is! But bigger and better (and with alot less pants peeing).

Fourth... unfortunatly on my meager TNT1 the game occasionally locks up, but the game's so worth it.

If you liked SS/2, Thief, or even Half Life you'll love this game!

I could go on and on (and I have), but what I'm getting at, despite a few system conflicts: what are you doing reading this, order it RIGHT NOW!

A great mix of action, strategy, and fun.

This is a great game, combining strategy, some atcion, and is on the verge of an RPG. I like the futristic world, and realiistic maps of the places they take place in. A great buy for a serious gamer.

This game is AWESOME. I got it for only ...at Target so i thought it would be cheap, but I was proved wrong! This game has everything you could ever want from the game. You gotta sneak around enemies, and interact with everything. It could be called an RPG instead of a FPS. So I know i sound like an ..., but you gotta buy this game!

a landmark for FPS and RPG games

Just to start off, Deus Ex is not for anybody who doesn't like huge complex plots, government cospericies, and exciting adventure gameplay with lots of action. If you do like all of those things, (which you should) come on in to the world of Deus Ex. It has a lot to offer.

Deus Ex puts you in the shoes of J.C. Denton, a recently employed nano-tech agent (sort of half machine and half man) who works for UNATCO (United Nations Anti Terroism Coalition) In recent events, a deadly plauge raviges the major cities, and millions are dying. A rouge band of people, the NSF, are hijacking shipments of the antidote. IT is your job to stop them. But you soon find out that the NSF may have a very good cause, and your brother, Paul Denton, (another UNATCO agent) may be in grave danger from UNATCO, and a bunch of people who are persumed innocent might be very bad and powerful.

I can't really tell you much more about the story without giving things away, but I can tell you that Deus Ex will definetly please you. The game evolves in to a huge, complex plot with three different endings. There is a lot of stealth, action, suspense, and betrayal in a huge gameworld where doing certain things will lead you in to different sub-plots of intrigue and secrets about the darkest conspericies...

All in all

PROS: Huge gameworld; replayable; very good plot; good characters; you get to choose between stealth and action; an epic quality throuout

CONS: Slowdowns; may be too long and tedious for some

BOTTOM LINE: Go buy this game and play it. That's all.
