Don't believe some of the reviews here. The fact of the matter is that this is a better than average game, and since it has been out for a while the price has dropped significantly. This is a chance to own a fun game for almost nothing. Its true that there are better games out now, but Amazon is basically giving this one away. Don't let these people that hate the game (who must be Martians anyway) cause you to miss an opportunity! On a 10 point scale:
Graphics:7 and a 1/2
Sound:7
Gameplay:8
Difficulty:7
Replay Value:7
Overall:7 and a 1/2. If you have 10 bucks to spare, buy it!

I don't understand where all the negative reviews for this game are coming from. Sure, the graphics with the trees and foilage are annoying in some parts (particularly on the earlier levels), but the gameplay is great. The loading does seem to be very slow, but once actual play begins, you find it's worth the wait.
What a shame...

The only thing I can say about this game that is truly positive, is that it doesn't completely .... I think having to live up to the Turok name is very difficult. The first few levels are very enjoyable. But the game becomes a little ridiculous. The storyline is not very good. I guess I still think back to the sense of amazement I had with the first Turok game, and this game just doesn't come close. Some of the graphics are a letdown. Look elsewhere...
...I've had better.

If you love eye candy I must confess that Turok Evolution is worth your money. The environments are awesome, and the creature models are very cool even if the graphics are a little rough. Its just to bad the controls are clunky and the weapon scheme is bad(No quick select). An assult rifle would have been nice too. The enemy AI wasn't all that good either. The multiplayer is average, but co-op, system link or bots could have made it a lot better. All in all, the game could have used more work, and I surly would have waited another six months for a better version that met XBOX standards.

If you're looking to satisfy the craving HALO gave you for 1st person shooters, Turok is like eating a Turkey Club while craving Thanksgiving Dinner. It's similar, has some of what you want, but lacking a great deal in many other areas. Unecessarily difficult in some areas, not many "check points", and a flying aspect that blows and really slows the game. On the positive side, this game has great graphics and sweet weapons not to mention very violent ends to your enemies. A noble effort but I wish the good people at XBOX game development would get their act together and start making richer, more layered games. . . like HALO.
solid fun and really bloody!!!

You would think that with the 128-bit era of Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube that we should be reaching the peak of Gameplay, but as of recently what weýre getting instead are games that, granted, amazing looking but someone forgot something: the game. To be honest I shouldnýt have necessarily been thinking Turok would be a great game. The first two Turokýs for the Nintendo 64 were well done, but far from perfect, and Turok 3 basically [wasn't good]. So the track record was far from perfect, but still there was no crime in wishingýI suppose. But ultimately Turok is a bad way to start off the fall, its one of those big name, big budget games that looks promising, but ends up falling way too short.
For fans of the original series, youýll find your typical Turok gameplay has remained unchanged, from the Tek Arrows to scaling vines and the terribly out of place platform jumping areas. Now this style worked for the Nintendo 64, but Acclaim should try evolving soon to join the rest of us in the new millennium. The biggest problem here is that the shooting just isnýt fun period. Blasting lizard men, baboons and dinosaurs gets about as fun as stacking blocks in Tetris, itýs all the same. The weapons have been seriously downsized from the other Turokýs, thereýs maybe about 10 weapons to choose from and all of the classic military weapons have been ditched, thereýs one machine gun, and the shotgun and pistol completely [aren't good] so you wonýt even use them. There are still the bows and arrows, axe and your space age weaponry that amazingly rips the space/time continuum in half or something, but canýt kill the powerful enemies, if youýre into that kind of stuff. I prefer guns and lots of them.
In fact the only new element to the Turok series is the flight levels where you hunter rides a giant winged dinosaur and blasts everything in sight. I would maybe applaud it if it had been before Panzer Dragoon, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Sky Gunner. I bought a FPS damn it, I donýt want to fly, I want to shoot, and the problem here is 25% of the game is flying! Again, this is the only new feature in Turok; this is the exact same game youýve been playing since 1997.
The more and more I played Turok hoping hood things would result, the more I was disappointed. Acclaim promised genius enemy and partner A.I. and instead we have the biggest group of idiots in the world. Even on the back of the box they claim ýenemies take cover and establish strategic positionsý. Well a perfect example of this was when I shot at an enemy he ran in circles numerous times then dropped his gun and ran away, I guess he figured if there wasnýt a hiding place within 3 feet heýs doomed. Another enemy who heard my gun shot started climbing up a ledge making him the easiest target in the world. Iým not military mastermind but isnýt it a little dumb to ýclimbý something when someoneýs shooting, a place that offers no cover and manoeuvrability?
And when you finally do get allied soldiers, they try to be like Haloýs marines, but instead their most brilliant move is to run straight at an enemy and wait until theyýre in two feet to begin firing. In fact this is the worst A.I. Iýve seen in a long time, these enemies need to go back to kindergarten to learn basic movement like run when someoneýs shooting and maybe also learn not to drop their weapons and flee like so many enemies do here.
Turok is the first flop of the season and is going to fall off your ýtop gamesý to try list like the leaves of fall. Its something that couldýve been great could have utilized technology. Also funny is the aging gameplay system despite the games title ýEvolutioný perhaps they should check the dictionary. It would be in best interest of first person shooters everywhere if Turok would go extinct.
Not a good 1st Person Shooter

I should start off by saying that I am a huge fan of the first-person-shooter (FPS) genre. Unfortunately this game sorely fails to live up to any expectations. The game play is sluggish and unappealing. The graphics are sorely lacking, especially given the X-box's potential. The 3rd person flying mode is also uninteresting. Like the 1st person shooting mode, the flying mode has sluggish game control and boring graphics. Sadly, if you want a good FPS game, all you really have for X-box right now is Halo.

Don't let anyone fool you, this is a great FPS, but it's also very challenging. The first 3 levels are fairly conventional. I liked the scope on the pistol. You can target enemies from a distance. The graphics are excellent. Head shots cause enemies to spurt blood. Trees and bushes move and can be walked through and give resistance like they would if they were real. You can knock down a tree on your enemy. The flying levels are a nice change of pace. Battling the Sleg, (the evolved dino army) you never know where they are hiding. They are using the terrain just like you. Several times I died while laughing, because it was so much fun. There are hills, canyons, fortresses, caves, bridges and more, all beautifully rendered. This game also has cool weapons. With powerups that change them (like exploding or poisonous arrows) there are over 30. Every cool kind of weapon is here, including nukes. Starting with level 4, the game gets truly beautiful, with great nonlinearity. You never know what's coming next. The sound is spooky, and this game isn't glitchy. To be honest, Halo bored me. It was way too repetitive with enemies and scenarios. Here, you won't think that at all. Great value to this game. Even with cheats on, it will take you awhile to beat this game. If you play it , you are in for quite a ride.

If you like FPS this game plays well. Some areas could have been touched up. Like in the jungle scenes they could have designed better boundaries than all of a sudden the trees become as dense as a wall. Flying your winged ride is hard to get use to at first but is real nice once you do. My only complaint with the graphics is rock formations and mountains most of the time look to angular and blocky. The texturing and bitmapping is good though. Some trees can fall while bushes will sway when you walk through them. The AI is very good (though not quite Halo). Most of my gripes are minor ones. The main reason I gave this game a 4 and not a 5 is because it is not system link capable. The multiplay is nice (though with 4 players it lags sometimes) and would have been fun playing on gamespy or xbconnect if it was system linkable.
