BETTER THAN I FIRST THOUGHT!!! Tons of action...

I bought this game when it first came out and played it for about 3 hours. I sold it and was very dissapointed because I loved TUROK on N64 and was dying to play it again. I thought I'd given it a fair chance...I was wrong. My friend had recently got it and loved it, so I seen it at BlockBuster Video ...and said, "what the heck, I'll try it again". While it has its issues, quirky A.I., PS2 graphics, frame-rate and slow down problems, it has an incredibly long story line with over a dozen different types of missions. I've been playing it for 8 days and have just reached the halfway point(I think). Each mission seems to take hours to complete. It is very challenging and at times I thought I'd never see the end of the mission(I finished 'RED FACTION 2' in 2 sessions!!!). I have to say, while the developers could have spent more time on the graphics and etc., they diffenately took the time to create a long and worth while game. Now that the price has dropped and it is easily worth the money. Once I accepted the problems, this game became very fun and very intense. A "MUST" for any "FIRST-PERSON" shooter fans.

Not a good game, not a bad game.

I have all Turok games from n64 to the Xbox. Though Turok is a good game in its series, there are some repetative things about the Turok Series.
Turok Evolution is a good game in my mind, spectacular graphics and I like some selection of the weapons.
Though, in Evolution there are some cons. The AI of the game isn't really that great, when it comes to the enemies of the game, this game is a good game of practicing trying not to get hit from a gun. And the AI of the enemies, they have really good aim which could be bad in some cases, and they run towards you sometimes , they still walk even after you shoot them.
Another thing is that the weapon selection is okay but I am allways worried about running out of ammo for the guns because this is one of those games that when your playing your thinking "Oh I wish I had the pistol or Shotgun right now." because some enemies take many shots from one gun and still don't die, and its a waste of ammmo.
I wish that, even for the Xbox, that Turok could change some things to make it realistic. This is the Fifth Turok game that has come out and they still don't make characters mouths move when talking. When I watch some of the cut-scenes it just looks like they are just looking at eachother.
Plus, the Turok Series is the only series of games that I have played that is fun with cheats on.
But overall, I still enjoy playing the game.

Save your money!

... Poor graphics, boring play. .... Eventually there'll be a better FPS, but Turok ISN'T it! The ONLY reason I can see for purchasing this game is if you are reeeeally into the Turok series. This game looks and plays barely better than the version that came out on N64.

I rented Turok Evolution ,And boy am I glad I did.It saved me money buying such a lousey game. The first chapter is ok but after that it goes down hill. They give you a scope for the gun that drifts and the enemy is already lobeing gernades and fireing at you befor you get there.then they give you only one way to go but your ememies can still sneak up behind you and surround you on all sides.you can never sneak up on the enemy they know your comming before you do.Do not buy do not even rent this it is a waste of your money and time

This would be good for a N64 game, not XBox

I rented this game, and thankfully didn't purchase it.
I was very excited to see that this game was coming out, the pictures for it looked fairly impressive. Once I started the game my enthusiasm quickly diminished.
The graphics are okay, but not up to what should be XBox standards; the graphics certianly are not the same quality as Halo. The texturing effects are pixelated and not very detailed. The distant view of environmental items is pretty good, but up close is just terrible. Unfortunately you spend a lot of time right up next to 'background' items. I am not sure what the framerate is, but movement is not smooth.
The sound is a mixed bag as well. Ambient effects are good, but the actual sound effects for your weapons and actions/results are not very detailed or convincing.
The gameplay is nothing to be pleased with either. Impact with objects is very random; you can walk 'through' a tree, but you can seek cover behind an identical tree down the line (it will stop enemy fire). Climbing/jumping is terrible as well. Enemy AI is just about as bad. Those who like gore will appreciate it, or at least until the carcas turns transparent and disappears into the ground.
All in all a very clunky game that will disappoint anyone who thinks this will even be in the same league as Halo for a FPS.

Tal'Set the Mighty Lumberjack of Turuk Evolution.

My most exciting discovery in Turok Evolution is to have Tal'Set
chop trees down with his flinted club, yell TIMBER!, and crunch,
kill many of the large dinosaurs, without the pistol, or etc, that the hints claim is needed. The game reminds me of my own science fiction work, published by GE, etc, called A NUCLEAR DISASTER. If curious see my PICTURES and MESSAGE BOARD at

I've played Turok on PS2 and its great. I've also played in on an X-Box and it may be even better on X-Box!! I was impatient and used the cheat codes to advance to the higher levels. Believe me, when you get to the higher levels, the game really gets good!! I waited a long time for this game and it was more than worth the wait.

TUROK is back to its roots: DINOSAURS !

Ok, first I have to say: This could have been much better on the XBOX! Especially the graphics are sometimes poor. BUT, the overall interaction with various enemies, animals and plants is impressive. Especially the animations are great! Did you ever see vomiting enemies? JUST GREAT!
The first jungle outdoor levels are very well done. Realistically animated and well shaped Dinosaurs, and the jungle atmosphere have to be experienced. Also the music fits perfectly. Otherwise the later indoorlevels aren't as great. They often look like N64 standard! Also the flying sequences are often frustrating (bad controls). With a bit more polishing (especially better textures and more polygons), this could have been a classic.
Anyway, a must have TUROK and Dinosaur fans!

I really wanted to like this game

I like most FPS games. I truly enjoyed the previous Turok games. I had known about this one for months and was really looking forward to it.

My local Blockbuster had it on their shelves a couple of days early. "Great!" I thought, rented it, took it home and began to play.

How very, very disappointing. Playing it is such a letdown.

Dull, lifeless, flat textures. Uninspired, linear level design. It's easy to move, but hard to aim.

Particular low points in the first five minutes: When you're being attacked, it's usually hard to tell if you're being shot or being eaten. Watching the alligators move in sync with each other like some reptile dance troupe was laughable. I thought perhaps when a Triceratops knocked a tree over that I was meant to climb it. But no, I couldn't climb it - but I could walk straight through it.

It took about twenty minutes to become completely disillusioned with the game and turn it off. That's probably a record for me.

This is coming out nearly a year after Halo, but it's a joke in comparison. What on earth were they thinking?

I want to love this game....

With all the hype and expectation for this game, I was hoping for another Halo, or at least close. I have to say that, while this game has some nice elements, I am overall quite disappointed in the gameplay. I have a 36" Hi Def screen, and yet it is still hard to see enemies at a distance, which wouldn't be quite so bad if your aiming device lit up in red like in Halo. Also, as I'm moving around, there are bushes everywhere which you can walk into and immediately become lost; it becomes a big blur and it's hard to see anything; perhaps this is supposed to be realistic, but in the tunnel vision created by seing "reality" on a T.V. screen, it gets confusing. Lastly, you can change the "camera" control from invert as you can in Halo... except when you're flying!!! What brainiac thought that that would be acceptable. After playing Halo for nine months in one way, and going into this game with the option to start in the same way, suddenly I'm forced to fly this Dino inverted. It already feels unatural flying the thing, but forcing me to fly it inverted is just too much.
So in final review, while I definately like certain aspects of this game (it is a first person shooter after all), I was certainly hoping for more. The logistics of the game are acceptable, it's the game-play that is, in my opinion, unbearable. Especially in the post-Halo world. Have the designers of this game played Halo? You know, the game that came out 9 months ago with better graphics and gameplay? Oh well, I'll keep trying to play this game and hope I can get past it's shortcomings.
