I found myself disappointingly disappointed in this hyped up shoot em' up "follow up" to halo II. This game complicates the wonderful gamepad of the X-box(Trigger to fire boys, thats what they are there for!!!!!!!!!!!). The character swith is not slick or smooth nether is thier A.I. when oyu are not in control of them. If you love halo than this will be a bum trip. If you dont love halo (what is wrong with you???????!!!!!!!) maybe you could dig it.

Microsoft needs a killer application to stave off the hungry Xbox fans waiting for Halo 2. So, they threw this game in the frothing mouths of gamers and from what has been see so far, has received some relative acclaim. Brute Force takes place in the future in which the Terran Confederation uses special operation groups to maintain order and 'take care of business' so to speak across the Galaxy. This group is comprised of four individuals dangerous on their own, but deadly as a team. Tex, who you start out with and generally most gamers will form an affinity with, is the squads heavy assault trooper designated to do one simple job, [destroy] everything. He has the best ability to soak up damage and dish it out as well, carrying only the heaviest weapons. Brutus, a Ferix, who is second added to your team is the all around trooper, capable of using his alien-borne gift to sense heat and [destroy]without the need of a weapon. Hawk is a covert specialist in recon, third added to your team. She is the lightest, fastest and takes damage easiest. Flint, being the last member added to your team, is the sniper who with steady hands and far-sight can take enemies out so fast it can make their heads spin, literally. Playability equals that of a third-person view Halo. If you have played Halo, the controls will come second nature and you can lose yourself easily in the game. Music is usually defeaned out by the heavy gun-fire and superb dialogue given throughout the game, with ambient sounds unique to each world making you wish for 5.1 Dolby. Replay value is relatively high with co-op for up to four players in a campaign able to jump in and out at any time as well as system link capabilities, this game is worth the...price tag. Also, and finally, to ease the fears of gamers, the AI is sufficient to where your squadmates can handle themselves in combat, just keep an eye on them in situations where stealth is more than a necessity. With an over-satisfactory gaming experience and a gore factor that had an M-rating impressed on it compared to other games I've seen, this is a must-buy game that'll keep any gaming from frothing at the mouth for Halo 2, at least for a little while.

This game does lack the depth of a strategy game. There ARE only 6 worlds, and some Snipe shots shouldn't kill. The sniping strategy is also rendered ineffective at times because of the length of viewable playing area. That said, this is a fun game. I was expecting something more along the lines of Hunter: The Reckoning. What I got was a first person shooter from a 3rd person perspective. That coupled with the ability to change your tactics with the commando you're currently using, makes for a pretty fun, if shallow game.
It should not be missed however, that there will be or is downloadable content through Microsoft. Thereby lenghtening the game and adding replay value. 4 stars for fun but lack of depth.
BOOYah!

I rented this game just earlier today, and i must tell you, the game is not that muchfun to play. Granted, the graphics are great and it has a very polished look to it, the gameplay is not that good. The weapon selection is good, but i didnt really like the guns that much. The differet charactes are cool, but together they do not work. The game advertised a squad-based stragtic game, but the AI is not that good, both enimies and squad members, so its more like a run and gun, just u can do it with different characters. The game doesn't flow well either. Unlike the story in games lik halo or splintercell, this game has missions with certain objectives and I found myself waiting for the level instead of being excited that i get to play on more. I highly suggest at you rent this game before you spend the 50 dollars to buy it and personally, im going back to covenant hunting with my personl fav Halo. Hope this helps!
Dissapointed..........

After having played this game, I can safely say that I have not been satisfied by it. I wasn't one of the people going into Brute Force looking at it like it was the next Halo. I had simply heard the hype, and was drawn in to purchasing the title.
For anyoen saying that this game is as good as Halo, it is not. For starters, I am dissapointed with the level design. It is too straightforward, if you know what I mean. Its like they drop you off at the begenning of the level, and the entire level is like one big long hallway that twists and turn until you reach the 'final battle', where there are like more bad guys than usual, and then the level is over. if any of you have played Mechassault, the level design in the single player game is exactly alike.
Another thing that i don't like about Brute Force is how it implements the use of grenades. Unlike in Halo, where players had the mobility to throw grenades on the run, in Brute Force, you can only throw grenads while standing. Abother flaw is the the majority of the guns in Brute Force are simply not pleasing. Most of the nergy weapons found in the game shoot boring blobs of multicolored energy, and are often complimented with dull sounds.
The graphics are well done. howver, in co op, there is definite lag with three people. The game has no defnite story line, as you will find yourself doing random missions: such as retrieving documents, saving hostages, protecting a building. It feels as though you are doing random missions in oredr to simply fulfill the current mission so you can progress on to the next. Also, something else I found dissapointing. I never had to use my 'Brute Force' team in the single player game. I even tried all the diffculties, and I was never required to command them to do anything. When I did command them to do something, it felt as if I was doing it because I was board with the rest of the game, because I never had to tell the to do anything.
Overall, I can simply say that Brute Force was not an enjoyable experience for me. Usually, when a game is delayed, it usually is supposed to mean that the game will be improved overall. However, Brute Force contradicts this statement simply because it was delayed for a number of months and the final product still did not live up to be a great game. The consumer loses both ways on this game.
Say what?

I can't believe some of these reviews. I usually agree with most, but this is the first game I've seen so many great reviews for when the game was so weak.
This game is NOTHING like Ghost Recon... except that they're both video games and neither causes monkeypox (that I know of).
And for Halo, the only things that this game shares with Halo are: They're both video games, the on-screen taget looks the same, the zoom for weapons that can do that is the same, M$ owns both, and neither causes monkeypox (or at least, not that anyone can prove in court... yet).
Yeah, it looks cool when enemies blow up, but that's about it (and that was done much better in Halo, anyway). No, I take that back, I liked the voice of the character that looks like a huge reptile. He sounded tough. Of course, none of that is worth $50.
Better games: Ghost Recon, Panzer Dragoon, Splinter Cell, Mortal Kombat, Midtown Madness 3, Tides of War, Midnight Club II, Mech Assault, Unreal, Metal Gear 2, Hitman 2, Medal Of Honor, and The Smurfs' Magical Escape from Monkeypox-Land.
Rent this one, ya'll.

ok. I bought this game after seeing a bunch of great reviews, and the people at the store said it was a very good game. first of all, it's not. There are only like 5 levels, each one takes about 20 minutes to beat, so if you do the math it takes a little over an hour to beat the game. I don't understand how someone said it took them two months to beat one level. second, the third person part gets in the way especially if enemies are right in front of you. The game DOES get repetitive. The multiplayer is TERRIBLE. if you try to play 4 player, you can hardly see what you're doing. Overall, this game is a complete waste of money and time. If you're considering buying this, rent it first and then decide.
Not what these other reviews say.

Brute Force is an action shooter for the Xbox. Many people compare this game to Halo, but it's an unfair comparison. Halo is a FPS and Brute force is a third-person squad action game. There's lots of weapons and medkits to use. Brute Force can be compared to the game; Conflict Desert Storm. You'll have control over four characters: Tex- tough guy with big guns, Brutus- a reptilian warrior with self-heal abiltiy, Hawk- a female able to cloak and kill with an energy blade and lastly, Flint- an android with perfect sniping skills. You can issue simple commands, such as hold, cover, move to and fire at will. You can take control of them individually, pair them off or order them as a group. The A.I. just automatically begins to fire when they see enemies, you cannot set the rules of engagement. However the action is excellent and the graphics are beautiful and have lush alien worlds, the sound effects, controls and action are just right. Even though the levels are all linear and a bit repetative. Brute Force is an excellent game, and I wish they make a sequal.
Pros:
+excellent action
+excellent graphics
+excellent sound effects
+excellent music
+excellent level design
+excellent controls
+excellent voice-acting
+lots of weapons
Cons:
-repetative gameplay
-linear levels
-rules of engagement cannot be set
NOTE: There is a book based on this game also called "Brute Force", it is a excellent as the game and suggest you pick it up.
BRUTE FORCE ISN'T WHAT I HAD EXPECTED

After watching the video for this game, I had been excited for the release of this game. The day it came out, I ran to Toys R' Us to buy it. But it definately wasn't what I had expected. The whole four person squad is a great feature, don't get me wrong. You can instantly switch between a four elite supercommandos, each with their own special ability. Tex is a tough soldier whose specialty is using dual weapons. Brutus, an alien, is the toughest soldier and his special ability is being able to see anything with a special vision that makes enemies stand out in bright orange. He can also charge at opponents and kill them. Flint is a long-range sniper whose speciality is target-locking. Hawk is a small, but tough soldier who can become invisible and sneak up on opponents and slice them with her powerblade. The weapons in this game are pretty cool and the sound is great. But the storyline is kind of boring. Here is how I rate the game:
Overall: 7 / 10
Gamplay: 6 / 10
Graphics: 8 / 10 (the stongpoint of the game)
Storyline: 4 / 10 (very disappointing)
Value: 5 / 10 (Not worth the $50.00 I spent)
Sound: 7 / 10
If the storyline could be a little bit more intriguing, this game would definately be 4 stars. But even with a better story, this game still wouldn't be great. The third person aspect isn't my favorite. The enemies are strange and not well explained. The sound is decent, but seems like someone accidently forgot to polish them up. The grenades visuals are very good, but the sound is horrid. The weapons have a flat sound to them. But the music during the game is good and the voice acting is great. The missions in the game are very straight forward and they do not really change over the course of the game. They begin to get repetive. Also, the game is set in six different worlds with 18 different missions. But the missions on each world are identical. It seems like somebody didn't even change the layout of them when they progressed to a new mission. This game did not live up to my expectations.
Save your money on this game: just rent it. Don't buy it. This game is fun and the graphics are the core of what keeps you playing; but with the combination of a poor storyline and repetive gameplay make this game not worth buying. This game is ok to rent though. I was very disappointed with Microsoft Game Studios when they realeased this game. The graphics are good, but with the poor storyline, this game is definately not one of my all-time favorites. Save your money: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH BUYING THIS GAME.
