Worth the wait?

Come on, how many of you waited and waited for Brute Force to come out? I sure did. With all the extra time they spent on the game it should have been a lot better. I'll list a few points here...

Good:
-The graphics are really nice.
-Awesome physics (bad guys go flying).
-The multiplayer co-op is loads of fun.
-There's tons of action.
-It's really fun (most of the time).
-Wasting your friends in deathmatch.

Bad:
-The story is corny.
-The characters are corny.
-The enemies are corny.
-The voice acting is very corny.
-The gameplay gets redundant.
-The gameplay gets redundant (anoying isn't it).
-The level designs could be better.
-What happened to the great AI they talked about?
-"Brute Force"... Isn't that a deodorant?

Ok, I guess the good outweighs the bad, but not by enough to make Brute Force a truly great game. Now I'm not saying this wasn't worth the fifty bucks... Just rent it first. Peace out, I'm going to go play Halo now.

Brute Force...Or is it...

OK well i got this game beacuse the reviews...i was soon to figure out that its nothing like Halo and its just so sketchy. Ur so called special abbilities stink. and its so hard to move the team at once...also the team always dies even wen on aggresive because they dont shoot back.....this game is a 2star because it was fun solo without a team.

Good, not great.

OK, OK, OK! It doesn't live up to the hype. I agree. I've been looking forward to this game for the past 9 months. Its hard for any game to live up to that kind of frenzy of expectation. However, I have to admit, I still think it is a more enjoyable game than Halo for the following reasons.

1. Controlling a squad allows for more strategy and manuvering than controlling a single player. The ability to sneak, scout, and snipe with specialist characters adds an element not present in Halo.

2. Unlike Halo this game has a built in navigator with an arrow that always points north. I know this seems like a minor point, but if you have ever spent 45 minutes wandering directionless in a cavern or ship in Halo you will appreciate the value of this feature.

The graphics are excellent!
The responsiveness of the game to the controller is great.

Two minor critisisms:

1. The character "Hawk" is too weak. Even when held in reserve, at the first encouter with combat she dies. Her special ability (invisibility) does not last enough time to be very useful. When she runs out of stamina it can take 5 minutes of doing nothing waiting for her to regenerate.

2. The game does not take full advantage of squad based tactic to win. There are many portions of the game where the "run-and-gun" approach work just as well as the tactical/careful approach.

Like I said, it isn't perfect, but its a damn fun game to play, especially with a buddy.

Sheer disapointment

It has been a few months now, and I can safely say that after having tried new tactics, methods, and fighting styles, this games is average at best. It is very difficult for me to write this given I was an immense advocate of the concept. I assumed it would be a more involving and strategically stimulating game than conflict Desert Storm was, which received awful ratings by most of the mainstream media conduits. The truth is, Conflict Desert storm, although possessing inferior graphics, has exponentially more aspects of strategy and allows you to employ different tactics, and allows you to tackle the same level in different ways, increasing the replayability factor. Brute Force possesses none of these elements. It is not engaging in the least, and its tactical elements are useless. Believe me, I could not help but look forward to this game, and was continuously dismayed every time it was delayed. I cannot even imagine what this game was like when they thought of releasing it in early 02.

Excellent action game

I think this game is very UNDERRATED. Yes. I mean, after it came out, people started to give it bad reviews. They probably saw the critic reviews and decided to agree with them. Gamespot gave it a 7.6 and IGN gave it an 8.1. C'mon, people. Have your own opinions and forget about critics.

The voice acting is a bit cheesy, but it's not a big deal. The gameplay rocks and it never gets repetitive. You have four people, each one has a special ability. There are many different guns, including alien plasma weapons, a human assault rifle with a scope, and more. And yes, this game DOES involve a lot of strategy. You have to use grass and rocks for cover, snipe guys out, rescue people, etc.

This game also is a lot like Halo. The controls are the same (except the flashlight button and the melee attack do different things on Brute Force), you can hold only two weapons at once, you have to swap, and mostly everything else. There are no vehicles in this, though. However, a ton of things are the same, so if you know Halo, you know Brute Force.

This is one of the few good third person shooters for XBOX. It is a must-buy. It will last long enough until Halo 2. I still think Halo is better, however. Still an excellent game.

This game is extrmely good, and i have actually played it.

Everyone who says that this game isn't as good as halo is totally wrong. I own Halo and i love it (rapped it 6 times now twice on legendary!) but i think Brute Force takes the cake over Halo. My uncle hooked me up with playing the unfinished game and my eyes almost fell out the graphics are so good the story line is excellent and extremely deep. There are alot of mind boggling weapons and a large variety of protagonists. The idea of being the 4 people instead of just one is excellent.

This Game is Straight Pimp.

Really the next best thing to Halo.

When I saw some of the reviews from Gamespot and IGN, I thought the game was a let down. I still rented it the first chance I got, and the reviews were wrong. The only place where the game suffers is multi player cooperative mode. This is really what made Halo so great, but in Brute Force the split screen seems to take away a lot of detail from the graphics and feeling. You won't enjoy this game in cooperative nearly as much as Halo.

Brute Force really excels in single player mode, this is more of a single player game, where you control a team of 4 and get to use their different guns and abilities. You will also need to take care of your team members or you will suffer later in the mission. One time a pesky bomb made me lose Brutus early in the level, and later I really could have used him to spot guys among all the fog, and this costed me as I spend a lot of medical kits. Basically it feels like Halo only it's in 3rd person and it's all up to you with 4 different guys and different abilities to use. The team members that your not currently controlling still fight with you, and let you know when they are taking hits and need medical kits.

Many critics of the game argue that the different abilities don't really play much of a role, and that you don't necessarily need them to pass a level. This is true to some point, I mean if you 100% needed a certain ability from a certain team member then you would fail a mission as soon as you lost that certain member. What it really does is increases the success rate of the mission by having these different characters and using their abilities wisely. And it's very natural, it never feels like your trying to solve a puzzle thinking what character would be good for what area, that's not what the game is about. The main characters are Brutus and Tex. Tex can get the best guns, using Brutus really helps your vision and you can spot enemies very clearly, not to mention recover HP while doing so. The girls play smaller roles, they aren't as good but that's not a bad thing. Girls probably wouldn't be as good in real life either. Overall it's just an awesome single player experience. It's the next best thing to Halo in action shooters.

HYPE!

This game was all about the hype. I rented it because my co-worker at EB said that it wasnt that good. My friend and I played for about 3 hours. The maps were all linear, the characters were stupid, and the actual gameplay seemed to drag after the first hour, it just ended up being more of the same. I was rather disappointed. Mulitplayer not much better.

Great but WHEN WILL IT COME OUT?

I have never played this game but i have played the demo and it is awsome and i have been waiting for it to came out for months but everytime it says it will come out, i check and it says that it will come out in a few more months, then a few more. It is really a great game though, you get to play with three other people by your side instead of by yourself. The graphics are extremely good too and the sound is awsome. One last thing is that many people say this will be better than halo and they are lying this is a great game but the only game that will be better than halo will be halo 2.

A Game Worthy of Halo-Like Praise

Brute Force finally brings a new XBox game out to rival Halo's fantastic gameplay and graphics. And it is fantastic in multiplay!

First off, the graphics are just AMAZING. From the opening cut-scene, to the levels you play through and the on-screen controls, it's just beautiful. They put an amazing amount of work into the art and design of the game, and it shows. The world you work through feels *real*.

In many ways this is obviously a version of Halo. The large selection of weapons, the four types of grenades, the great comments the characters make, the fighting-space-enemies in a futuristic environment. This isn't a bad thing - Halo was an incredible game and Brute Force shares many of the same great qualities.

And Brute Force takes it a step beyond. In Halo, you had great AI teammates to help you out, but no real multiplayer. If you had local co-op, you had two Master Chiefs. In Brute Force, there are four distinct players. When you're playing single player, you can swap amongst them, using whichever one has the best skills for the task. The other become your backup, following your orders and supporting you.

But multiplayer is where this game is truly amazing. The game is very obviously created for multiplay, with the multiplayer options being integral to the game. Set up your system link and join multiplay games of all varieties, choosing your favorite character and weapon combination to truly customize how you play. Speed is blisteringly fast, and many players out there are already top-notch.

Where the built in campaign is amazingly fun and can be played (if Halo is any judge) for months on end, the fact that multiplay gives you endless players and new downloadable maps means the game could in essence be played ... forever!

Highly, highly recommended for anyone who loved Halo. And if you don't have your system link set up, be sure to do that as well! Together, Brute Force / multiplay creates just about everything you could want in a shooting-action game.
