Lives up to the hype

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

Brute Force was touted as the next big game for the X-box. And it pretty much lives up to those expectations.
The graphics are generally very good. All of the character models are very sharp and detailed. The enviorments range from good to bad. A couple of them look unimaginitive and just plain silly. The colors in the game are vibrant - maybe too much so. Some parts of the game look like they came out of Toy Story!
The game play is simply the best I've ever seen for a third person shooter. The controls are intuitive and easy to get the hang of.
The most anticipated feature of this game is the special ability of each of the 4 squad members. One can go invisible, another can shoot two guns at once, and one has special sniper abilities. These abilities are crucial to the game, and make gameplay more interesting than simply running and shooting.
Which brings me to the game tactics. This is one of the best parts of the game. The whole game doesn't consist of running, and shooting. It takes some strategy to clear out an enemy base. You can position a sniper and have your scout draw enemies out into the open. Don't get me wrong, you still have to run and gun quite a bit, but you could not win this game without using some strategy.
The only negative aspect of this game is the story. It's waffer thin and detracting. But overall, this game does live up to the hype. It's one of two games you absolutely must have for X-box.

No replay value

The game is way too easy to finish because if you die, you can just continue with full health from your last spot. Only loose points at the end of the mission. Levels were allright, but not jaw dropping or extraordinary. Only 4 or 5 maps for multiplayer, and except for one, boring. Also you're stuck with a pick of one or two weapons per character. I took it back for store credit, just wasn't fun.

Worse than getting my wisdom teeth pulled!

I got this game the day I got my wisdom teeth pulled out. I was all ready to sit and play this game for several days in a pain-filled haze. I immediately started to feel sick when I played it, like motion sickness. First I thought that it was just the way the characters moved like they were intoxicated, but I realized that it was actually my painkillers. I set the game down for a week, and when I picked it back up, it was worse than the pain of my wisdom teeth being pulled out and the nauseated feeling of the painkillers put together. I had finally developed my gamer sense enough to feel violently ill within the first five minutes of playing a game this bad. Stay away from this game, but most importantly keep your children away from this game. Unless you want to teach your children how to be stupid, in that case this game is perfect for you. Worst. Game. Ever. I hate this game. I almost wanted to stop playing video games because of this game. Do not under any circumstances give anyone any money or games in exchange for this game. There are lots of good 1st and 3rd person action games for Xbox, and you can buy any of them and feel reasonably satisfied with your purchase, but not Brute Force! It is toxic! Do not put plastic bags over your head or play Brute Force! It is worse than smoking! It is the monster in your closet, the kid who stole your lunch money, and the teacher who failed you! Do not reward the incredibly, amazingly, stupidly, awesomely uncreative and imcompetant and stupid, stupid people who made this game by giving them any of your money!

You might wonder why I gave it 5 stars. It is opposite day!

PS. Halo and Splinter Cell are the best games for 1st or 3rd person action on the Xbox; Brute Force is awful!

STOP SAYING THE GAME IS BETTER THAN HALO!

I think that Brute Force is gonna be a terrific game... I've seen the videos and read about, but there is one thing that's bothering me. All these people say that Brute Force is gonna be better than Halo and I'm pretty confident in saying that they probably never even played Brute Force...... Look people, it's gonna take more than fancy graphics and great gameplay to beat Halo, a game that already has those things. It's gonna take a DEEP ... story line and 100000000000000000000000000 ton of replay value, dont forget an addictive multiplayer... Besides, even if the game is better than Halo, big deal, then there was Halo 2.....
Dont get me wrong though. I am very excited about Brute Force and even more since I found it will be an xbox live game. XBox Live's lineup is stronger than the xbox's launch lineup, which says a lot....mechassault, unreal championship, and others...Maybe the ps2 does have some competition...

Brute Force

Brute force is a cross between Halo and Splinter Cell. It hs the third person view (seeing the character, not looking out of its eyes) and has stealth technology like Splinter Cell. Like Halo it has A LOT of action. You're practically always throwing grenades everywhere. Brute force, in my opinion, is just as good as Halo. If you liked Halo, you'll like this.

In this game, you command a squad of four operatives. Tex, the big tough guy of the pack is the slowest, but has the biggest guns that pack the most punch. Tex has a special ability called Berserk. This lets him wield two guns at once. Brutus, the only alien operative, is from the planet Ferix. He's a Feral. He can sense enemies with a kind of heat vision with his Spirit of Vengar special ability. This ability allows him to regain health. I was surprised to find Brutus to be pretty fast for his size also. Hawk is the weakest and fastest member, but she is also the most stealthy. She can go invisible with her special ability and can kill enemies with one slash of her powerblade. Flint is the last member. She is a well-trained sniper. She has a auto-targeting special ability which lets her...well...auto-target enemies.

With these four operatives you can surely beat the game when you've mastered all of their abilities. I know from experience, I have the game. It does take a little practice commanding everyone at once, but, you'll adjust very quickly.

It would be helpful...

It would be extremely helpful to customers deciding to try the game if the reviewers who critise the game give reasons as to why. "It's boring, laborious.." because?
After quite alot of indecision i bought Brute Force and i was not entirely sure that i liked it, as it could virtually be played using one character the whole way through. Then i decided to switch to the hardest difficulty setting, which is comparable to the legendary setting on Halo. Now the game really comes into play and you MUST use every member of your squad to survive. It is far more thrilling than playing on the basic setting. For example, Hawk (the weakest scouting member of your group) will perish after just one sniper body shot, or a well-placed burst of an AR. Tex (the assault trooper) cannot take on more than 2/3 guys by himself without getting taken down quickly. SO for all of you who have Brute Force and are not enjoying it immensly, put the challenge back into the game and try it on Brutal!
I would rate Brute force as 5 stars, and i will give reasons. Firstly, the squad based action really comes into it's own when you crank up the difficulty. Secondly, the graphics are beautiful (just about on par with the Halo 2 trailers). The sound is there and suits the environment, ie Bongo drums in the Jungle. There is lots of replayability, and the game is incredibly long when you play on Brutal difficulty. And for all you XBOX owners out there who do not have XBOX live (for whatever reason) like me, you can play co-op with up to four friends through the whole campaign. Deathmatch and Squad deathmatch are also available. The beauty of the co-op mode is that because the characters are all unique, you must play your role to fit in with the group, otherwise you and the group will perish. I think this is a better method of co-op than Halo.

So, while i personally still prefer Halo, i also love Brute force, and would recommend it to any XBOX owner, particularly a Halo fan. It definitely deserves 5 stars.

One of the first games I pre-ordered...

This game was a major disapointment too me.

I had this thing pre-ordered thinking it was going to be Halo with controlable Squad mates. Like Master Cheif and the Marines ever level.

My hopes really got high on this one mission when my squad was first assmbled. I had Hawk scouting ahead and killing random Tangos (Rainbow 6 talk for Bad Guy) and running back to an ambush site after revilleing herself.

Then I had her and Flint snip a canyon and the opposite side while Tex and Brutus ran down the area tagging (Gamer for killing) the Tangos. Finally I had Hawk infultrate the enemy base and hack there computer turning there guns against them. That was the best level in the game.

The rest the enemy comes running after you no matter what and there's no way to get into poisition to fight them. It basicly goes from :

Ghost Recon + Halo = Brute Force
to
Halo - fun + Lobotomy = Brute Force

Also there's a non-implimented Money system. I was looking forward to buying new gear and haveing to keep ammo supplies up. Even use rumored viechles. But allas all the money system turns out to be is a fancy score for performance.

That's the sad truth of it. I spent around $50.00 to get this thing. It'll be worth the $20.00 it is now I guess.

"Simply amazing"?!

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 3

I would like to know why one reviewer has referred to it this way. "Simply amazing" is some thing I would attribute to a game that has a unique storyline or awesome, original gameplay. This game doesn't have any of that.

The storyline is quite simple. You go to this level. Kill some guys. Move on to the next level. Kill a few more guys. Move on. Even our main characters appear to start getting bored after a while, as seen during the cut CG.

Leader: "All right team, I have a new mission for you! We need you to..."
Tex: "Go to a planet and kill the bad guys?"
Leader: "Why...yes! How did you know?"
Tex: "That was the mission you gave us yesterday...and the day before...and the day before...and the day before..."

I remember playing this all day with three friends, one of whom heard about a great plot twist. We got halfway through and he was totally dumbfounded, "Isn't the great plot twist supposed to happen now...?" We played for another hour, and still the repititave missions. "Maybe they just wanna surprise you..." We played through another hour's worth. "OK, that's it, never mind..."

I have to also say the multiplayer is cheap. In the versus, you can choose any character...but only one of each. As you can imagine, the big lizard guy can pretty much 0wnz the other characters, making the multiplayer no fun. The team vs. team (and I mean each player gets a full team) is kind of fun, and makes you have to manipulate the different powers of the characters. However, it's often quite easy to just have your NP team-mates do the killing.

The only fun part of the game is the ability to co-op with up to four friends in the game. That is a nice addition, but it's too bad they can't make the game itself more interesting.

If you like to run around shooting things and screaming at the top of your lungs "BADASS!" then this is the game for you.
