The Party Returns

The past few years have really shown that Nintendo has come a real long way with their highly acclaimed video game series for the Gamecube. Yet out of all of them, none of them has ever been as interactive as the Mario Party franchise. Since its debut for the Nintendo 64 back in 1998, it has arguably been a well-recognized institution that has still gotten better with age. The last one, Mario Party 6 was arguably one of the best editions ever, with the interactive voice recognition of the microphone to the mix. Now, the question that is asked is that could Nintendo develop a better Mario Party than before? Here is the answer.

Mario Party 7 for the Nintendo Gamecube, really shows a whole lot of growth from the previous Mario Party games, by placing Mario and company into a imaginative around the world cruise, where each of the games are parodies of exotic locations like Windmillville for Holland, and the Grand Canal is to Venice, Italy. The game also highlights over 80 different mini-games like Take Me Ohm and Bubble Brawl and Tunnel Of Lava, and some of them by using as many as eight different players to the test. The game also has even more unlockables including 2 characters, Birdo and the return of Dry Bones who had a comeback with Mario Superstar Baseball recently, and unique games as well. Mario Party 7 also does do a whole lot more by placing nearly a dozen more games with the microphone to the test with memory and racing games to, as well which comes with the game, which people who've bought the previous Mario Party 6 know isn't a must but for those who didn't get it is.

Yet, with all the improvements, there is one disadvantage to the test, and that is the solo mode. Unlike Mario Party 6 where the solo mode you could play all the different various games, you only have a limited number of games you can play with like the duel mini-games, the Bowser and Donkey Kong games, and the mic-games, which is unfortunate. Also, you have to tackle certain number of challenges which can be confusing to conquer and takes awhile, but it is worth the effort to play.

All in all, Mario Party 7 is a premire title, and is really a must have for anybody who owns a Gamecube. Although this might be the last Mario Party for this system, considering Nintendo's interest in their upcoming revolution system, it truly is worth the effort of this dice.

I recently picked up Mario Party 6 which I play with my children (11 and 4) and my husband. We really enjoy 6 as a family game. We do not have a microphone so we usually turn that option off.

We purchased 7 thinking that it would be a nice addition to 6. We were wrong. My 4 year old, who didn't even need a handicap to do well in 6, needs a 3 to 4 star handicap to play 7 on the easy level. Even then he is very fustrated as the "easy" games often require exact timing, which even I, an adult, find challenging. The games are also more vicious. While I have nothing against competition I do have to wonder what they were thinking when several of the games require you to punch and/or kick the other players in order to win. The orbs have also changed. There is now one that, if landed on, all of your orbs are given to the person who placed the orb resulting in that player having several spaces and you having none.

I also don't like that Bowser is more aggresive now. He places 3 Koopa Kid orbs prior to the game starting. If you get a Koopa Kid orb by passing the "orb space" then Koopa will steal it and place it for you. At certain times Bowser will setup his own store which, if passed, your character is kidnapped and forced to purchase an item for 20 coins. After the purchase the item is stolen by the Koopa Kid and, if it's an orb, is placed by him. There is no way to avoid the Bowser as the new game play has a "Bowser Meter" that is filled slowly after each turn. Approximately every 5 turns the meter will be full and you will subjected to him opening a shop, replacing bridges with all Bowser spaces or completeing a challenge. These are in addition to the traditional Bowser spaces on the board.

There are more DK spaces but the games are harder. My 11 year old found the games to be to challenging to be fun. The microphone option can not be disabled in this version. If you do not have a microphone and you land on the space than you must wait while the animation informs you that you can't play that game due to the lack of a microphone.

We will continue to play 6 but I can't see us keeping 7 for very much longer. It's not as entertaining or family oriented as 6. My opinion is that you should keep or get 6 and wait to see if 8 (Will there be an 8?) returns the game to a friendly competition that is enjoyable for all ages.

Hope you didn't sell part 6

Mario Party is a flagship franchise of Mario games. This game contains 86 mini-games that range from cell phone quality to console quality.
Compared to Mario Party 6, it's terrible.
The games are worse (not nearly as fun as part 6), the graphics are worse (to accommodate 8 players I think), the host is annoying both in sound and repeated interruption of the game (bring back the sun and the moon), Bowser will make you buy new controllers after frequently throwing yours at the screen (he is extremely unfair here), there is regular lag in between commencing dialogue and the game.
The only thing better in this part are the Donkey Kong games.
I knew I shouldn't have given away part 6 before buying this.
On its own, this would be a 4 star game, but after playing 6, you know why desert is presented at the end of a meal, after part 6, 7 seems bland.

This Game is an awesome game however I prefer Mario Party 6. But this Game is also good. It has changed a bit from 6. One of the boards in 7 (the windmill) is the best board on the game, you get to buy the windmill for however many coins and if you don't put up enough coins for that windmill someone else can buy the windmills for a higher price. It's awesome but still like 6 the best. I would say buy the game, great to add to your mario collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Mini games are alittle harder but very fun!!!!!!!!

Whatever will they think of next?

When Mario Party 1 came out, evryone knew that Nintendo was going to take a huge leap in the world of multiplayer action. The sequel came out quickly and the game soon attracted peoples attention. But with the sports section being filled up, Mario Party was taking a bad turn. After a while, Mario Party 3 came out and the games began to fly off the shelves once more. When the Gamecube arrived, Mario Party 4 came right after it came out. 5 and 6 completely revoulutionized the gaming industry with the return of the microphone. But it would take some time before Mario Party reached the top of the gaming industry. Soon more company's started to take over Nintendo and it looked like the company would implode.

Enter Mario Party 7! The best game for multiplayers {Except for Super Smash Bros. Melee! LOL.} now even more fun than you can shake a stick at! Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, Boo, Bowser Jr, Toadette, and newcomers: Birdo and Dry Bones are all here to join in on the ultimate party of the century! But the most monumental thing is that you can have 8 people playing at once! Buy your copy today! Trust me, you won't regret it!

Great All ages Fun for Lots of Players

If you're looking for multiplayer fun for your GameCube, the Mario Party series is a sure winner. Between the board game and minigames, there's something for everyone!

The basic premise on this one is that you're on a cruise ship. This of course is a great family fun idea in itself :) You get to play board games to unlock minigames, and then you can replay those minigames as much as you wish. There's a lot of incentive to keep replaying - you get points to win in-game prizes, soundtracks, and much more.

If you've never tried the Mario Party series before, think of it as an animated board game. You "roll dice" and hop along the path, aiming for whatever your current objective is. Along the way you trigger special events and minigames. All of your favorite characters are involved - Mario, Peach, Luigi and more. I'd really like to see more female characters, as I get a little tired of Peach.

With Version 7, you get a free microphone included in the game. This lets you have fun games involving voice. We didn't have any problem with the game understanding us; it was much better than other mic-enabled games we'd tried. You can play with up to 8 people at a time, but I appreciated that the 1 and 2 player games were great, since it's rare that I have 7 people in the house that all want to play this.

There's a good selection of mini-game options. Some are memory testers, some are key-tapping challenges and some are random luck, to help out not-so-skilled players. With the handicap settings, even youngsters (or oldsters) can play along with the more experienced gamers.

Each of the Mario Party games has its own environment, game set and therefore fans. If you like this series, I really recommend renting all of them, to see which specifically appeal to you and your gaming style. It's not that 8 is necessarily better than 7 - they are all like perhaps the Nancy Drew book series, where they are the same theme and different people have different favorites.

This one, for example, would be PERFECT for homes with several kids (or kids with several friends).

Highly recommended!

Fun, but flaws

Welcome to mario party 7! This year's edition is fun but there are some flaws. The first flaw, hugely notable is "Bowser Time". What this is is that after every turn, a Bowser meter grows, and when it fills up, Bowser does something bad. This is the LAMEST addition in a MP game EVER, plus there is no way to turn it off. Next, we have the AI. You can set them to 4 different levels, weak, normal, hard, and brutal(must unlock). Weak sets the players to easy to beat, but when you get paired with them, you get the picture. And of course, there is the "host", Toadsworth. He is very annoying and talks like a monkey. Now for the good. There are more than 80(!) minigames, and 11 of them use the mic. The mic is an awesome addition, by the way. There are 2 unlockable characters, Birdo and Dry Bones, which are cool and there are lots of unlockables, too.
The best feature by far is the 8-PLAYER mode. You play by teaming up with a partner, and sharing the controller. The 8-player minigames are fun, but it is a little awkward. Overall, Mario Party 7 is a great game, and I highly reccommed it!

Pros:
Tons of unlockables
great boards
more than 80 minigames
return of the mic
8 player
incredible sound, music, and graphics

Cons:
Bowser Time (can you say LAME?)
AI players
Solo Mode (very boring)
not many modes
annoying character voices
sometimes game seems to be against you

Here are my scores

Graphics
5/5 Very nice and detailed

Sound
4.5/5 Incredible music and sound, except the character voices

Control
4/5 Nice control, can get confusing in 8 player

Multiplayer
5/5 Its-a party with many people!

Features
3/5 Some features aren't that good

Final Verdict
4/5
A wonderful purchase!

Thank you for reading and enjoy Mario Party 7!

My kids love this game. It is entertaining and fun to play. There is no killing or shooting involved. Just plain clean fun!

We got Mario Party 7 for Christmas, having loved Mario Party 6. This one is just as enjoyable as the other, and the mini-games are just as varied and clever. Another reviewer said that it was harder for kids than the earlier ones...however, my 6-year-old daughter beat my wife and me when we played it last night. There is a stronger presence of Bowser this time, but it makes it just as fresh and fun as I expected. Also, I've liked the Bowser games a lot more this time around. I like that they've continued making the worlds different, so that each gameboard is played a different way.

Mario party 7 has over 80 all-new minigames which will keep you playin' for a long time!!!

Play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Toad (Yipee!!), Toadette, and two unlockable persons (Dry Bones and Birdo.).

Now if you're looking for hot multi-player action, than this game is for you!!!

If you're looking for a good solo game, than this still could be for you, although certainly not as fun.

Personally, I like Mario Party 6's minigames better. In that edition, just about ALL the minigames were really awesome. But in this edition some of them weren't as fun as last year's.

Some minigames like "Pokey Pummel" are simple.

Just smash the "a" button as fast as you can.

Other minigames can be frustrating and require lots a teamwork, like "Battery Ram"

Move the battery through a maze to get it to the finish line. (A 2. Vs. 2 minigame.)

Overall, I love this game just as much as Mario Party 7, but what dissapointed me the most was solo mode.

Last year, solo mode allowed you to play just about every minigame there was. But this year's solo mode limits you to duel, DK, Bowser, and mic minigames. You also must beat the computer at a task like "Be the first one to get two stars" or something like that. Not at all as fun as Mario Party 6's solo mode.

Overall, I'd say rent both Mario Party 6, and Mario Party 7, and try them both out to see which one you might want to buy more.

I give this game an A. "A fun game for persons 6 years or older."
