In most racing games when first and last places have a difference of 9.596 seconds you would think that it was not a very close race. But then this hits you, there are 30 racers.

A fun thing to do in this game is to hurt and\or blow up your opponent.

Well simply put this game is fast. i mean FAST!! You will be flying well over like 1000 km/m or something like that. It is great fun and exiting. unlike most racing games you can actually kill your enemies on the track by slaming into them or behind them or letting them hit you when you spin out and stuff like that. Trust me when I say hard, this game is TOUGH. I can't even beat some of the missions on very hard mode, in fact i can't even be considered in the same lap on some missions. On my current file since this game is kind of old since i am doing this review i have beaten all the normal and hard mode story, and a few of the very hard. I have completely mastered grand prix mode on all the cups (including AX cup) on every difficulty. While it may seem hard on Grand Prix mode at first it gets better and easier as you use some of the better cars that you will unlock as you progress. BUT in overall it is a great game and I like in most of my reviews laugh at the people who don't like this game.

f-zero gx: a REAL game

A few months ago my roommate simultaneously (or thereabouts) purchased F-Zero GX and Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube. Both were racing games and both were highly entertaining-- Mario Kart for its straightforward pick-up-and-play accessibility, F-Zero for its hardcore committment to high-speed (and high-tension) racing.

Now, a few months later, Mario Kart is all but played out, while F-Zero is still running strong. Over time it became clear that once a handful of things were unlocked in Mario Kart-- which took only a month or so of occasional playing-- there really wasn't anything new to do. F-Zero, on the other hand, is all but impossible to exhaust. It boasts four cups of increasing difficulty (the highest of which, the unlockable Diamond Cup, is insanely difficult and borders upon impossibility), four difficulty levels, and thirty or so vehicles, as well as a feature for designing custom vehicles. Make no mistake, F-Zero is hard-- probably harder than almost any other game you've played (the only exception that comes to mind for me is Gunvalkyrie, and that's a different story altogether). You'll have to practice a lot to just keep up on higher difficulties. The tracks are complicated (sometimes obscenely so) and the racing, as I mentioned, is very, very fast. On the other hand, you'll definitely be able to tell a difference when you practice enough. I recently started the game over myself on my own memory card, and within two hours had accomplished what had initially taken a month when I first played the game.

The point is, F-Zero is difficult but satisfying-- something I never felt while playing Mario Kart. It will be frustrating at times, and seem ridiculously difficult at others, but the end result is a sense of actual fulfillment-- certainly uncommon among video games. Highly recommended.

Beyond Racing of 2000

I often seem to look at racing games and what they really seem to be in the future. They really can be quite amazing, and head-spinning at times. Yet, there just happen to be two video game franchises that have captured the essence of futuristic racing. One of them is Extreme-G, and the other is F-Zero. Nintendo really has been able to make their F-Zero games quite amazing in not just detail, but the actual feel of racing in the future. Yet, for this game, it really took some teamwork to really get this game going, as their former video game console rivals Sega, teamed up with Nintendo to make a race that is anything but extreme. It is beyond that.

F-Zero GX, is the sequel to the Nintendo 64 game F-Zero X. The game really goes beyond the previous games in not just the detail and the graphics, but the actual gameplay itself, where anything goes. There are over 20 different courses that can be unlocked here, s well as a exciting story mode, where you can really unlock different characters and vehicle parts to help customize your hovercraft. The game also features classic modes like the Grand Prix mode, which has so many twists and turns available on locations like Mute City, the deep Phantom Road, which actually looks as if you're inside a computer, as well as other tight-twisting and groundbreaking courses. The music also feels extreme to the bone as well. The courses include different music that can range from hard-hitting rock, to dance, techno and futuristic Hip Hop, which goes very well with each alndscape and course that is available.

Yet, with so many good things, there are some disadvantages as well. The courses can be very difficult to manuever at times, and you'd have to re-race them all over. Another problem is the control of the game. Another is the very speed of the courses, which as you get into the tougher courses and harder levels, the more frustrating it can be to get first place.

All in all, with so many different racing games out there, F-Zero GX is a well put, exciting and extreme one of a kind racing game. Out of all the games for the Nintendo Gamecube, this one really should be one in every gamers home. This is one very remarkable racer.

I got this game for my birthday this summer and i'm still having fun discovering new things until now. The space age looking ships and garage mode makes it really cool. So if you are looking for a game that has high speed driving and cool courses and ships this is the game for you.

My favorite racing games are all arcade-style ones. Forget realistic racing on a boring oval track - I can't get enough of ramping over buildings, hurling banana peels at passing go-karts, or rounding curves at over 300 MPH.

So for me, F-Zero GX certainly doesn't disappoint. It keeps you enthralled with an incredible sense of speed at all times, even pulling a near-constant 60 FPS when there are 30 (!) racers on screen at once. The pounding electronica soundtrack is excellent and proves yet again that Sega has the best sound team in the industry, hands down (and that's not all - each of the characters has their own special 'profile song' ranging from alternative rock to death metal, pop-punk to hip-hop and even a chiptune!) Graphics are crisp and clean, which is good since you'll need the good visibility while passing enemies on the narrow stretches. Controls are nicely responsive (and configurable!), load times are few and brief, and there's a wide range of modes and unlockables to keep players interested.

And then there's the difficulty. This game is TOUGH AS NAILS. It requires incredible patience to beat everything on even the 'hard' difficulty settings, let alone 'master'. Once in a while a game comes along that is so punishingly hard, people are justified in bragging about beating it on the most challenging level. This is one of those games.

By far I had the most fun playing this with friends. Like most GC games it supports up to four players at once. It's a lot of fun trying to elbow your buddies off the track at high speed. (One nice change from F-Zero X was the removal of the 'slot machine' dead players could play that would screw over the remaining racers - thank God!)

The game isn't totally flawless (what is?) - one irritant is that the cars aren't well-balanced and most players will simply pick the heavier machines time after time. The standard machines can be pretty lackluster anyway and often a custom machine will beat all - disappointing for fans of the F-Zero characters (Captain Falcon etc.) Far more disappointing is that unlocking all the secret stuff takes either incredible skill or access to a dwindling number of F-Zero AX arcade machines, so most players likely won't get to sample everything the game has to offer. Finally, it would be nice to have more tracks available (even if it meant fewer cars), since players will exhaust all the available ones within a few gaming sessions with friends.

Those problems aside, the game is a blast to play and provides a tough challenge for even the most hardcore gamer. At less than $10 most everywhere, this is one game all Gamecube racing fans should own.

The best game just got better!

This is probably the best racing game ever to hit the nintendo system and now it's just been updated for a new gaming experience. It's got new features, new characters and a wide selection of everything else you want. By the way, the Grand Prix mode is back along with Time Attack and Vs. There is also the new story mode which is about Captain Falcon and his exploits. Finally, the newest feature in the game lets you gather points to buy parts to customize your own racer. In short this game is a must for any serious gamer, it'll be out on Aug. 28, 2003. If you would like to read some more reviews checkout generationvgames.com and you'll be amazed at all the new games coming out. It'll be open to the public by December of 2003.
