Having recently played a (single track) demo of this wonderful game, I know that it will suck many hours of my life away. :-) The visuals are stunning, the control is amazing, and the fun is packed into this game like cream filling in a Twinkie! I can't say much about the challenge, as I'm sure the demo course is but the first race in the game, but I was very impressed. The way the vehicles respond to the controls will take some getting used to for most players, but I find having to make gentle movements and light touches on the control stick far supierior to having to slam the stick to the side to make a turn. I have a feeling that some of the twists and turns in F-Zero will be so sharp that even the level of responsiveness these cars enjoy will be put to the test.
The added feature of being able to customize your car, then take it to F-Zero AX at your local arcade on a memory card is quite nifty. I'm looking forward to seeing how widely recieved that idea is. Nintendo tried it before with NFL Blitz and was slightly ahead of the curve. maybe this time, the customers are ready.
Hardest game ever! Fastest game ever! Best racing game ever! My favorite game of all time.

"F-Zero GX" is the game I have enjoyed playing since the summer of 2003. I can definitively say that "F-Zero GX" for Nintendo Game Cube is the hardest game I've ever tried to fully master (and yes I have beaten all the above mentioned games). I only beat this game's Diamond and AX levels in Jan 2006.
"F-Zero GX" is a very close to "Einhander" in fun-factor, replay value and all the other factors that make an excellent video game.
As for music, the old-school NES/SNES games cannot be beat, especially the Contra, Lolo, The Lost Vikings, 1943, River City Ransom, UN Squadron, Super Mario and Mega Man series of games (Mega Man II having some of the best game music you will ever hear). Still, the techno music in "F-Zero GX" fits; and like "Einhander," what really stand out are the stereo quality sound effects.
But let's get back on track talking about "F-Zero GX." The ship/car movement is tight and the fastest ever to grace the video game world. The "turbo vs. energy" meter control dynamic is a great advancement from the original "F-Zero" game on SNES, where you get an extra turbo per lap. Now (if you know what you are doing), in "F-Zero GX" you can go at turbo speeds at almost every part of every level (taking advantage of speed burst arrows and power up strips). On the SNES version, you would need Game Genie to do this.
As far as depth, there are 5 grand prix cups with five courses each (The AX cup is actually not as hard as the Diamond cup) and there are 9 additional story mode levels (with level 7 being the hardest).
I can't believe how cheap this game is on Amazon. Hardest game ever! Fastest game ever! Best racing game ever! Get "F-Zero GX" if you want a challenging and fulfilling gaming experience.

In 1991, F-Zero was released for the Super Nintendo. Heralded at the time as one of the greatest racing games ever created, pushing the SNES hardware and the Big N's "state-of-the-art" (at the time) FX chip to its limits, F-Zero for the SNES was, and still is, one of the classic games of the past decade.
F-Zero for the N64 didn't seem to make anywhere near the splash as its successful predecessor. Even though the game expanded to over 20 different racers and was a larger overall game, for some strange reason, it just wasn't quite as enjoyable, in my opinion.
However, when creating the next version of F-Zero, our buddies at Nintendo teamed up with their old nemesis, Sega, to create the futuristic, lightning-quick F-Zero GX. The result is nothing short of awesome!
The Grand prix mode is solid, with absolutely breathtaking backgrounds, innovative track design, twists, turns, turbos, and don't-blink-your-eyes gamespeed. There are 25 different courses, and all of them are challenging and fun. As with the original SNES version, this game seems to really push the GameCube to its limits.
The better you do, the more points you earn to buy parts to build your own ship, or other items in the "garage". The garage is where you can buy chapters in the excellent Story Mode, which follows Captain Falcon in his adventures. When you solve the first mission, you earn points to buy the next mission, and so on and so forth. But, as time goes by, the missions begin to cost more and more, and unless you go through the Grand Prix mode first and save up your points, you run out of points pretty quick, which leaves you to race in "Hard" and "Harder" versions of the storylines to earn more points. This is where the game becomes very, very, difficult. If you don't want a video-game that you are going to solve in one night, this game is for you. There were some moments where I was ready to whip my Wavebird against a wall! But that is what makes the game fun!!
A little kid probably will consider this game, much like Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker, too difficult. However, older gamers such as myself enjoy the challenge and make return gaming a real pleasure. It's almost a reward to solve the "Hard" and "Harder" missions. I damn near started breakdancing when I solved the damn "Hard" version of the frickin' TRAINING mission!
Another feature that has never been done before in the history of video gaming is once you create your own ship and save it on your memory card, you can bring the memory card to an arcade and play F-Zero AX, the arcade version of F-Zero GX, and play your ship! The information is shared between the console and arcade versions.
I posted an earlier review for Mario Kart Double Dash!!, and I was kind of harsh about it. After owning and playing F-Zero GX prior to my purchase of Mario Kart, I had high hopes that Kart would include the same speed, detail and innovation. All in all, F-Zero GX is THE racing game to own for the GameCube.
THE best game I've bought yet for my Gamecube!

Overall: F-Zero GX was my first F-Zero game, and all I can say is that I was absolutely AMAZED by it. I was hooked on it ever since I first tried it out at my brother's friend's house. If you have no idea what F-Zero is, I'll tell you.
F-Zero is a fast, action-packed race set in the 26th century. Over 30 different pilots are competing in the Grand Prix, and they all have different motives for wanting the prize money. In this game, you control an F-Zero pilot, and you have to zoom through many courses in an anti-gravity machine at speeds of around 1500 km/h! You can either select one of the pilot's own machines, or you can create your own (very cool). The graphics are the best I've seen yet in a Gamecube game, and the gameplay itself is addicting. Usually, I'm not a fan of racing games, but I've changed my mind after this. Buy this game if you want high-speed thrills!!!
You cant afford to Blink!

What can I say about this game except that it is possibly one of the fastest racers in Nintendo history! The game focuses on "Story Mode". On this mode you will be able to face a wide variety of challenges ranging from the Blasphemously Easy to the Supernaturally Hard. To advance in Story Mode you will need to practice your skills via Time Attacks or the Grand Prix. If you get really good, you can make lots of cash off the Grand Prix which will allow you to buy more powerful and stronger cars, as well as soup up your own nifty racer.
As far as Gameplay goes, it is difficult even on easy mode. Like the title of this review says you really cant afford to blink on the track since there are 20 different, bloodthirsty racers behind you willing to do anything to win. I suggest you use Time Attack to test your skills; each time you should shoot to shave more and more seconds off your time. When you feel you are ready, then you should enter the Grand Prix.
How does the game work, huh? Well you start off the race behind 29 other racers, their cars all with varying speeding capabilities. Your mission is to race to the finish line trying to get as close as you can to first place. There are many ways to improve your time and gradually your score but as I said, its definitely one of the more harder racers I've seen out there!

This is a fun game, but it's VERY, VERY hard. I recomend this game to an F-Zero series fan or a racing games fan, but not an average gamer. If you do get this game, you can enjoy the awesome graphics, the beautiful cinematics, and the lightning fast gameplay. There is a lot of replay value with a buch of characters to unlock and buy in the race shop. If you can beat this game, you have either had lots of practice, hve lightning fast reflexes, or a F-Zero addict.
Great game all around

It is unusual to get quality like this at the current price point. F-zero GX is a helluva game, only things I dont like is the lack of a track editor, and lack of a battle (kill scoring mini game) mode like in f-zero x. The difficulty factor is definitely a bit too high, but its still very fun nonetheless.
its kind of sad really

f-zero from the snes was one of my favorite games so i was excited when it came out. i should have rented it first.
the first thing i did when i turned on the game was race a circuit. the first race on beginner mode to get a feel for it. it was fun enough. at the end of the race i got some tickets to buy spare parts or new machines in the garage. this interested me. each time you medal in a race you get a spare part that lets you build some custom machines. unfortunatly these are all unlocked very quickly. so on to the story mode.
there is a common theme in most of these reviews that you may of noticed. they say its hard. thats an understatment. im usually pretty good at these games but this was infuriating. it took me a day just to finish the third story. who knows how long the story mode goes on for. each time you beat one of the missions you are allowed to purchase another mission from the garage. i quickley lost interest and went back to the curcuit races. it is very hard to win the higher cups. i lost interest in it very quickley which was disapointing since i was really looking forward to it.
i strongly recomend you rent this first. if you need to get a racing game without trying it first you will have MUCH MUCH more fun with Mario Kart Double Dash or Need for Speed Underground.
Help I'm gonna win!
