the F-Zero series has come a long way since its Super Nintendo debut. F-Zero GX is by far the fastest,most action packed racer you could buy. This version is far more diverse than its previous outings. It still contains its Grand Prix mode where you fight you way against 29 other racers in 5 courses of various difficulties. The courses themselves are jaw dropping. With more loops, twists, and turns than most amusment parks, you are surprised at how seemless the transition from right side up to upside down is. many times you are unaware you have flipped. the AI is relentless forcing you to not only to battle the course but also its competitors. with 2 methods of attack you can destroy your rivals machine with ease. but be wary, your opponent won't hesitate to do the same to you. machine selection is huge with more than 30 machines you can pilot. the inclusion of the all new story mode offers new, and difficult challenges that couldn't happen in normal modes. some chapters require you to drag race your opponent while another has you keep above a speed limit so you won't detonate a bomb on your machine. over all this is the perfect game. it also features linkable capability to the F-Zero AX machines at arcades around the country, enabling you to unlock more courses, machines, and parts for the all new custom machine mode.
AMAZING!

I bought this game. I couldn't set it down. There is always something new to do, and you can create your own car.
The Grand Prix is difficult. First you start out Novice, Standard and Expert classes. Then you unlock Master Class. Then you unlock Diamond cup to go along with the Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald cups. And, if this isn't enough, you unlock a whole new cup after beating those and with four classes!
Story mode is also difficult. You take the role of Captain Falcon. I'm only on chapter 7 out of 9 (which I can't beat) and I've had this game for months! In story mode, there are three difficulties: normal, hard and very hard. If you can beat a chapter on hard, you gaet machine parts from the arcade game. If you beat it on very hard, you get machines from the arcade game.
Customize is cool. You can unlock the pilots' machines, create an emnblem, or make your own machine using your parts.
There is also and F-Zero shop, in which you can buy parts, staff ghosts and story chapter. The create a machine thing is great! There are 3 different parts: Body, Booster and Cockpit. You can put them together and make a machine. The only problem is that you can't name the machine. It names itself, and the machines that have cool names always SUCK.
Overall the graphics are great but the sound affects are bad but I'm not worried about them so oh well. Thereb are many pros and almost no cons. Get this game. It might be the last game you'll ever buy.

If you are a casual gamer who jumped on the PS2-Madden-Halo-GrandTheftAuto bandwagon recently and just happen to own a gamecube on the side, this is probably not the game for you. If you are an 8 year old who has any sort of pokemon cartridge sitting in your gameboy advance, then this is not the game for you either. This is an extremely (let me say it again- extreeemely) difficult game made for hardcore gamers from back in the day who welcome a decent challenge in the face of all the crap development that befouls the world of electronic gaming as we have come to put up with. This type of game requires a certain level of skill; simply put, the ones who have the natural skills will excel and come to love this game, while the others will practice the tracks over and over again in vain only to ultimately fail.
For those of you who blew through Ikaruga, this is the new game to beat. Hardcore players only; all else need not apply.
Looks really fun!

I really like racing games and this looks really fun. It has high speed racing plus I love F-Zero games. Plus it is made by my two favorite Japanese gaming companies, Nintendo, and what you might not suspect, Sega. And I heard there is a lot of new stuff you can do like create your own vehicle and connect to the arcade version, F-Zero AX.
This game embodies perfection....

I can honestly say, in all my years of gaming, I've never had as much fun as I have had with F-Zero GX. It has, by far, the best replay value of all the games on the Cube. Everything in this game is executed flawlessly: the sleek tracks wizzing by you at 1200km/h full with 29 other racers, the detailing on the machines, the menu interface, the songs for the racing tracks...the list goes on and on.
I never thought of Sega as much more than an EA. I considered their games to be largely unrefined, and lacking in innovation and inspiration. Then I played GX and that view completely changed. Sega has gone to extraordinary lengths to make this a game worth playing; take the title screen's camera sequence of following Capton Falcon's ship around a track packed with exitement, for example. Fire Field's Cylinder Knot, a racing level stationed inside a volcano, is brewing with bright orange lava everywhere, with sparks jumping all over the place. When there is a major beat in the song (like a measure's downbeat), the camera angle changes to a new view. This switching keeps the race fresh for the whole length of the title song. Another special characteristic of this game is its ability to suspend disbelief. The tracks are set in busy, believable levels loaded with background effects that truly make you feel like you're there. This is in stark contrast to F-Zero X's flat, boring levels. Sega saw this was a problem, busied up the background, and threw the track all over the place in whacky, exciting loops, turns, and jumps. It's aesthetically refined graphics like these that make the game truly unique and worth playing.
There simply aren't many other games with this level of perfection in continuity. Nothing feels left out, and nothing feels overrated. If I were going to be left on an island and could only take one game to play, this would be that game.

Gameplay
~~~~~~~~
Rating - ****
There are several different modes, you can build your own car, and there is plenty to unlock. This is the fastest racing game I've ever played. It never slows down and keeps you intrigued through the entire race. The courses are very nicely designed. They are all unique. The loading times are especially fast as well.
The only problem some people might have is that the game is very difficult. It may make you very angry when you've tried something "a million times!" and still can't win. I consider this challenging, not hard, but I still give it 4 out of 5 stars because the difficulty could annoy other gamers.
Controls
~~~~~~~~
Rating - *****
These are some of the simplest controls a game could have. The control stick is used to move, Y boosts, L and R do sharp turns, A accelerates, B brakes, and Z and X can be used to attack other racers. I can't think of a better control scheme. It's perfect.
Graphics
~~~~~~~~
Rating - *****
Like I mentioned earlier, this is probably the fastest racing game ever, and it still keeps an incredibly fast frame-rate. The tracks and machines are extremely detailed and polished. I spend several races just staring at the detail on the track.
Music/Sound
~~~~~~~~~~~
Rating - ***
The Sound Effects are amazing. Turn on some surround sound, and you'll believe it's real. The music is very nice to listen to at first, but after awhile it becomes repetitive. It doesn't really get you "pumped" like I wish it did.
Story
~~~~~
Rating - ****
Story mode boasts an excellent story that focuses mainly on Captain Falcon. The different chapters each tell a section of the story. Although the story isn't too deep, it's simple, and simple is good (at least on this game).
Replay Value
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rating - *****
Even after you've unlocked everything (which takes a VERY long time, especially with the AX unlockables), there's still plenty to do. Race your friends on multiplayer, challenge your ghost/time in time attack, create new emblems, create new custom machines, challenge other players' times, etc. It's never-ending!
Overall
~~~~~~~
Rating - *****
This is one of the best best racing games ever created. It never gets boring! If you're a racing fan or just love a challenge, you can't pass up this game.
I'd definitely recommend this to any racing fans. For those of you who aren't a big fan of racing, or think it may be too challenging, you'll probably want to rent it first, but as long as you're a video game fan, you'll want to try this game out.
Please don't overlook this gem!
I cannot believe what I'm hearing--that this game is less than perfect! Lies, all of it! Anyway, this game is the greatest--hands down--racing game I have ever played, for the pure adrenaline rush and the experience it provides. How so? Well, my dear reader, read on...
To begin with, to say that these graphics are mediocre is to be completely blind. The environments surrounding (and incorporating) the tracks are beautiful, and full of the little details which make the experience so complete. And the musical score is awesome, and I usually don't enjoy video game scores, but the classic guitar riffs really bring out the whole package on this one.
But beyond the environment, the game is also top-notch. Control is incredibly tight, there is even a way to calibrate your control stick to make it even more responsive, which you'll need, believe me. One caveat here, this game is a ton of fun, but the leaning curve is STEEP! Many people can enjoy the game in versus mode or hitting some of the early grand prixs on the lower difficulty settings, but higher up the game requires a great deal of skill to win races.
This is a good thing, however! Unlike most games available today, this one hearkens back to older ones, which forced the player to adapt and adjust and improve his/her skills in order to win. This game is not forgiving, and neither are the racers in it (try passing Black Bull on a tight road, I dare you!). But once you've played for a while, it will become easier, and you'll have a great time in the process.
I bought this game months ago, and I still play it quite often. It always has another challenge for you, more racers and tracks to unlock, and lower times to beat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this game, and despite the difficulty rap, is absolutely a must-have for any racing game fan (and any other gamer). It's that good.
Excellent addition to the F Zero series.
I know something most of you here dont.Theres going to be a new F Zero game for the Game Boy Advance coming in mid September.Aside from the story mode you also can play the GP mode which I know is probably the best thing about it.And never fear every vehicle available from F Zero X is present in the upcoming release.It will have improved graphics and sound.
As for this game its the best racer Ive played.Really hard in the last 2 cups though but there is something here for every racing fan.The first 3 cups are pretty easy but the story mode is ridiculously hard.It appeals strictly to hardcore gamers.Difficulty aside this is probably some of the most fun youve had playing a racer and with 5 cups and more than 30 race cars it has great replay value.And I must say this is the finest looking racing game Ive played.Its one of the best showcases of the Game Cubes power and you can bet that its fast.Super fast.A must buy for any F Zero fan.Best in the series so far.We'll wait and see about the new one.
For over a decade, the F-Zero games have made up one of the most intense racing franchises around. Now, Nintendo has teamed up with Sega to bring fans F-Zero GX, the fourth and undoubtedly best incarnation of the series.
Rather than simply reincarnate the gameplay of old, F-Zero GX continues a story established in its predecessors (This takes place four years after the events of F-Zero 64), making it new in every retrospect save its racing style, which is as intense and addictive as always. F-Zero has always offered some of the most extreme courses ever, and GX is no exception. Every track offers its own unique challenge, whether its clearing a U-turn, hitting a series of turbo boosters, or flying a few hundred feet through the air onto one of two landing strips below. You can even attack and destroy other racers, which provides for some extra fun when passing to the front of the pack. If you've mastered one track, you're hardly prepared for the rest. You have a choice of 30 racers (Though you start with just the four featured on the cover), and as you complete races and challenges, you'll earn tickets with which to customize your racers, buy special items, and even purchase chapters to the game's Story Mode, a new feature that takes you inside the story that establishes GX as a sequel.
The sound department is a mixed bag. The effects are clear and befitting, while the music, which includes themes for all 30 racers, ranges from lame to catchy; More often the latter, but too often the former. Voice acting is well-done, but the dialogue often rivals Attack of the Clones, especially when it comes to the oddly-executed interviews at the end of a Grand Prix.
Graphics are often what make or break a game in today's world of gaming, and even for the demands put forth by F-Zero GX's gameplay, the graphics here are truly stunning. Detailed vehicles, crisp visual effects, beautiful tracks and an excellent frame rate provide the smooth, stylish gameplay that's crucial to extreme racing. The cut scenes in Story Mode are beautifully rendered, almost giving you the feel of a CGI-animated film. The only strike against the graphics in F-Zero GX would be the character models, which are a still smooth, bit rigid and on the blocky side. The focus of the game is on racing, though, so its hardly anything to be concerned about.
If there's any one racing game to buy for the Gamecube, it's F-Zero GX. Even when the story mode is complete and the races have all been won, you can still go back for more, over and over again. The options are so endless, you could be playing the game for months before you've covered everything, and you'll still have plenty more to do. This is easily one of the greatest racing experiences to date.
Buy it!!!
I loved this game, but there are some problems.
pros:
+Really fast gameplay with challenging courses.
+Lots and lots of courses.
+31 carachters [not counting custom machines] to choose from.
+Multiplayer 1-4 people.
+Character bios.
cons:
-The voices are SO STUPID you can lauph at them.
-Can be way too hard some times to the point where you just quit.
-Story mode is IMPOSSILBE so practice up!
Overall, buy this game at all costs! I listed some really bad things in the review but the good things overpower the bad so much you wont care at all [maybe you wont notice!].
Customizing cars is pretty neat but you dont make the car, you pick from parts you buy [there really cheap too!] and slap it together hoping is dosn't explode in your face [wich can get pretty funny]. You can even design your own stickers or choose from some pretty neat ones they give you.
Overall, buy it cause its as fun as Super smash bros. meelee cause of the four player I mentioned earlier.
