My favorite Gamecube Game

I bought a Gamecube in November and picked up a couple of the cheaper games to go with it. Animal Crossing was one of them. At first I thought it was a little strange, what with that odd looking cat walking around on a train, and those animals with funny sayings...like a pig that says "snortle" or a frog that says "toady". I shut it off that first day but was interested. I kept playing day by day and I am highly addicted now! The only thing I don't really care for is all of the letter writing the animals want you to do. And sometimes they don't understand what you write to them, like if you accidentally spell a word wrong. But I love everything else! Designing clothes, getting house expansions, decorating my house, it's all soooo addictive. I really like those games where you can play forever and not get bored. I am a twenty year old college student and this game is fun enough for me, but it is good for anyone just as long as they know how to read. Buy it now, and pick up the nintendo ds version, while you're at it!

Even though this is a "kids game" my wife and I can't get enough of it. We have lost hours of our lives playing this game, and I'm sure we will lose a lot more! It's not something you can play from start to finish in one sitting because it has no real end and the game progresses in real time.

Animal Crossing
One of Nintendo's top titles for the Gamecube was Animal Crossing. Many players bought this game and are still playing today. However, I am not in the magical group of players and believe that this game gets old quick. This game is a routine game; once you realize you are doing the same thing over and over, again you will stop playing.
Graphics- 5/10
As you probably already know, the graphics for this game are horrible. I'm not saying they needed to great, but they could've been a little better. The game was originally made for the Nintendo 64, which actually explains it's poor graphics. You also are stuck in a top down view that really restricts what you can see most of the time. Looking for other characters is a task because the view is so annoying. There aren't many load times though, so you can move throughout the small world quickly. The ugly graphics can be forgiven, as they don't really affect the gameplay any.
Story- 4/10
There really is no story in this game. You have hopped on a train heading for a town. You have pretty much no money. Luckily for you, Tom Nook quickly offers you a tiny home to live in. He allows you to make payments on it. From that point on there is no story. You just visit with other critters in the world and talk to them. There is nothing going on to keep you interested in the game. All you do is pay Tom Nook money and buy things from his shop. You are truly free in this game, but I wish a little bit of a story were added.
Sound- 4/10
The game's sound is almost unbearable. The music is probably the only thing you can deal with on the game. Even then, it is usual an annoying tune that gets old quick. The characters talk in a weird language that is more annoying than the Sims. I suggest turning the animal language off in the beginning of the game. You will get so sick of hearing the way they talk.
Gameplay- 6/10
You need to collect cash to pay off Tom Nook. At first you will run a few errands for him that will act like more of a tutorial. After that you are on your own. You can furnish your home, run errands for people, and a few other things. Once you have paid off your house, you can upgrade it a few more times to get bigger and add extra floors. This is all fun for a couple weeks. Eventually you will realize that this is a routine game. You do the same thing every time you turn on the game. You check your mail, run errands, fish, sell everything, pay off Nook, save and quit. This gets really tedious once you get to the really expensive upgrades.
You can have up to four people in a town though. If you have a couple other people to play with the game will become a lot better. If you have a town created on another memory card that is in slot two, you will be able to travel to that town and buy things from their shop. Trading fruit between towns can lead to a huge profit. You can even wreak havoc in another person's town by digging holes and leaving garbage lying around. It's up to you. Having a couple friends to play this with can really add to this game longevity.
Difficulty- 5/10 (Note- This is how much I like the difficulty)
There is no skill required to play this game. The only hard part about this game is paying off Tom's insane fees. Other than that there are no hard parts. Finding items for the Museum may be difficult, but at the end of the day you only have to dig up whatever is there. If it isn't there then you wait until the next day. The game wasn't meant to be difficult though, so I will give it an average score in this section of scoring. The fact that the game is so easy helps if you want a bunch of friend's to play the game with you.
Overall- 6/10
I will admit that the game is pretty fun for the first few weeks. Once you hit point where you owe Tom around 700,000 bells (currency), you will realize that you are going to have to do the same tedious things over again to get enough money for it. You can probably play this game an hour or so a day and be done with it in a few weeks. I can only recommend purchasing this game if you have a couple friends that are willing to play this game with you. If not then just avoid this all together. It will get too tiresome too fast.

Some people may like this game--that's fair enough. For myself, however, I don't need a game that takes me through life's everyday mundane chores. If I want to go fishing, I'll go fishing. Why play a game that replicates normal life? If I wanted to experience "normal" life, I'd simply experience it--not play it in a game (and indeed, I live out a rather enjoyable normal life--physically doing the things I want to do). I suppose I come from the mindset that videogames are supposed to offer something more or different--something that you cannot have in ordinary life. This game only gives you what you can already have.
Animal Crossing is the best.

Animal Crossing is a wonderful game. You can fish, hang w/ friends, dig for fossils, buy houses, and decorate the house. Don't forget to stop at the miracle pond with a variety of fish and shellfish.
Along the way you can meet dozen of new animal friends. You begin you journey as a mouse, you can earn items and other stuff by doing favors for those you meet along the way.
(Dictated to me by a young (...) friend)
Fun at first, but rather repetitive

Okay, I know that tons of people like this game, and I have to admit, I enjoyed it at first. But it gets rather boring after just bit of time. I played this game for around 2 weeks before I began saying, "Uh...okay...um...what now?" After you upgrade your house fully, there's not much to do. Sure, there are holidays and a guest (usually the same ones) comes about every three or four days. And on occasion, someone will move away and another will take his(or her) place. But the overall of this game is summed up in to one word: repetitive. You don't have much to do besides what you've already done.
Pros: Fun to build up your house.
Interacting with the townspeople.
Cons: Extremely repetitive.
Not much to do.
Overall, this game is good for smaller ones, but I think that if you're 10+, you'll get pretty bored.

I'm getting this game for Christmas, and I can't wait! I'm kind of shocked that I'm so excited, because the first time I played it, I though it was incredibly stupid! There's no plot! But I was about 9 and I only played it for a few minutes at McDonalds. But I love it now, and I can't wait to get it! What is so cool about it to me is how real everything is! You make your own person, name him/her, and then live in a world totally popullated by talking, clothes-wearing animals! You can buy new clothes for yourself, and give yourself new outfits. What is so cool is how the game runs on the Gamecube's clock, so what time is it in the real world, it's that same time there! The town, (which you get to name), changes with the time. The sun and moon rise and set, just like in real life, and the animals will go to bed at night. The seasons change, along with the seasons in real life, so it can be winter, spring, summer, and fall. All of the actual holidays are celebrated to! On Holloween, you and the animals dress up and go trick-or-treating, or you can stay home and pass out candy! On christmas, it's snowing, there are lights up, everybody has a tree, and you exchange presents! Easter, Thanksgiving, and the 4th of July are all celebrated to! Plus, on your actual birthday, animals will say happy birthday and give gifts! Plus, the town has it's own holidays and contests to celebrate, so there's something to enjoy every month. You can furnish your house, and expand it into a mansion! (You start out with a boring, tiny shack.)Plus, you can write letters and have the mailman deliver it to neighbors! Animals will also send you letters, and some will move away, while some new ones will move in! There's always something to do in Animal Crossing! Plus, when you visit friend's towns and hang out with animals from there, or if you share your town with another person, animals will tell you about things and letters that the other person actually did and sent! They remember things! I just can't wait to get this game, and since I'm getting it on Christmas Eve, I'll be able to celebrate Christmas on Animal Crossing without having to wait a whole year! Yea!! I just can't wait to get this! (Along with a new MP3 player and an IDog.)

If you've not plaayed Animal Crossing it's had to understand it's appeal. But once you've spent a bit of time playing it you're almost certian to be hooked. Who ever thought virtual life could be tihis fun? What makes the game even more enjoyable though is the ability to interact with frineds and faimliny in the game. You can create a total of 4 characters in your Animal Crossing town (one for each emmber of most families). Then when one person is through plaing another can play. You can send each other mail, presents and sell tings to one another too. It's great for children learning to read becasue there is a lot of text to go through as you talk to your town residents and write mail.
I get a kick out of playing the game and participating in rel time holidays such as halloween, Christmas, Newy Years, valentines and so on. As the years passes for you so it does in the game so there always new activities to join in on.
Trust me and thousands of other Animal Crossing fanatics, pick this game up now! You might not think you'll like it, but I'd bet you will!

This is a game my child enjoys very much. However, you MUST be able to read in order to play this game. He likes it, but I find it very hard to know what he must do to get to each level.
