I am an adult who is addicted to game boy. Normally I prefer puzzle games, but this game is outstanding. You must work your way through 25 levels gathering gems and finding the frozen fairies, which are not always easy to find. In each world there are several levels. One you play as Sparx (who has different abilities from Spyro) and manuver among insects finding the keys and collecting special powers to unlock the doors to get to the fairy, and the rest you play as Spyro. Each level is unique and there are enemies to defeat and clever ways of finding the fairies. In some levels you must accomplish a task, such as catching a thief or turning on all of the lighthouses or freeing a caged bird or ringing bells in the correct order. You can breathe fire, fly, float and ram into objects. You cannot enter a new world until you gather a sufficient number of fairies which can be very frustrating because you must keep going back to find where they are hidden. I enjoyed the Speedway level. It is different from the regular levels because you have to beat the time and collect all of the gems without running into enemies. I enjoy this game and feel it is well worth the money.
excellent game

This game was not as good as the playstation game. If i could i would give it 4 1/2 stars but i can't and it's DEFINETLY not bad enough to get 4 stars. Anyways the basic plot is that there is a sorceror ryhnoc named Grendor. Bianca, (a sorceress from year of the dragon) comes in to the library to check out books to plan for her vacation. But she is carrying so many other books she accidently leaves her spellbook behind. Grendor finds a spell which will make him stong and smart. But he reads it upside-down and it gives him two heads and two headaches. The only cure is one hundred fairy wings. So he freezes all the fairies.
You go around finding or earning fairies by melting them with your fire breath. There are twenty five levels, each of them has a few wacked-out characters that tell you what to do. The speedways are a big dissapointment but other than that this game is awsome. It has extremely good graphics and gameplay. The sound is cheesy and repetative but you can turn that off. Unlike year of the dragon there are not levels within levels. But this is okay because because instead of lots of small easy levels there are 25 five big and challenging ones. this game is far better than anything i could have expected. all in all this is a great game and you should stop reading my boring review and go buy it.
This game is verrry challenging....I definetly reccomend it!

This game, for it's worth, is much harder than any of the playstation games I have played. Maybe it's because I don't have a game guide and I have to feel my way through each level, but mastering it has been extremely tough. I've been hacking at it for a month now and have been very entertained by it all.
I love the complexity and yet, the simplicity of the race levels. Avoidng crashing into enemies is your number one priority, gathering all the gems and beating both difficulty settings (each one, normal and hard, yeild a different fairy rescued) is an interesting challenge. Not to mention my hand-eye coordination and lock-on ability has suddenly improved.
The Sparx levels are even harder than in Spyro 3. They are similar, but you have less room to see and your enemies like to pounce on you unexpectedly. My advice is take your time and don't rush the Sparx levels. You can keep trying, and your life count won't go down even if sparx "dies" several times.
As for the regular spyro levels.....my advice is get the hang of controlling yourself in Autumn Fairy world BEFORE you ever enter a regular level. If you plummet off the side of a cliff or miss your target, you start over at the beginning of the level and must go through it again.
There is a Secret Fairy in each level, including the Home levels. You might notice things like pumpkins (autumn fairy homeworld) sandcastles (mermaid coast) or lamps (panda gardens) scattered around everywhere. Your objective with these is to flame every one in a level without leaving or dying. If you die or leave the level and return, they will all be reset. There's around eight or ten scattered in each regular level, flame them all to unlock the secret fairy.
Guess who's back, too? The Theives! And they've stolen Fairies! Charging from a Game Boy advance perspective is extremely difficult, jumping and flaming the thief, and sneaking up on him, are as good a tactic in this game as simply mowing him down. It's a lot safer, too, since the Theives like to run right near a cliff edge....and take a sharp turn. Beware!
I am having a lot of fun with this game, but it is so difficult. I am looking for a game guide somewhere, hopefully it will help me through the harder levels so I can get out of Winter Fairy world.

This was an awesome game! The graphics were MUCH better than I had thought they would be. There was only one little problem. The problem is that many ways to get the fairies are to do jobs for other npc's(non-player characters). They are EXTREMELY annoying! One is to ring bells in a correct order. Just so you know, THE BELLS ARE SCATTERED. Not that I have a problem with it, but I just think it is annoying. I have a tip for ringing the bells. This is in Market Mesa. When it shows you the bells ringing, look carefully at the surroundings of the bells. There is one to the very left, oneto the very right, and one at the top of the middle part. The entrance to that part is to the right of the main platform. Other than that , it is a great game. Not like the other games where you only have to play 2 or 3 hours to beat. This is challenging!
Great game all-around

This game is a great game for anyone who likes fun little adventure/action games.
Gameplay 5/5:This game is really fun. There's not much to say about the plot but who needs a plot when playing it is so exciting? You use your fire breath to kill "ryhnocs" and other creatures. To enter a world, you go through a door and it automatically brings you to the world you entered into. In each world there are little tasks you must do(kill ryhnocs, light lighthouses, etc.) But the main part of the game is saving the fairies which are trapped and frozen in an ice capsule. This is an overall fun game for anyone who likes a nice adventure.
Graphics 6/5: Oh my gosh the graphics are good. They are beautiful in every 3-D detail. They are amazingly smooth and FABULOUS. If you are a graphics freak like me you will love this game.
Replay Value 3.5/5: This game is really fun at first, but when you play it too much you can get bored of it really easily. The moral of the story is: DON'T play it too much.
Controls 5/5: This game uses up all 4 directions (obviously, because it is 3-D) and all four other buttons for a fun and easy control over Spyro.
Overall 4.4/5: This game is really fun at its best, but sometimes it gets redundant and boring and you will switch games. At its best, you will feel the adrenaline pumping through your blood screaming: "DIE YOU STUPID RYHNOC" which is quite fun.

The graphics are real nice (comprable to the superior-in-every-way Rayman Advance), the music is varied for each level and decent for what can be accomplished on the system, and the Firefly/Gauntlet level and Spyro flying levels create a necessary break from the tedium of the game. And tedium is the biggest problem this game has. Although the levels look different, the game is always the same. Collect 300 gems, light five things on fire, beat-up a horde of Rhynocs. Rayman (which you should buy if you don't own) constantly adds new moves and challenges to keep the gamer interested in the game while Spyro barely grasps the concept of variety.
Both games are from the same development team and the hard work shows. Unfortunately, Spyro lacks the flair of originality that made Rayman a must have.

I own all the PS Spyro games, so when it came out on GBA - I had to buy it.
The graphics are great with vivid color. It's fun trying out the next board just to see how inventive the graphics will be. I also enjoy the addition of being able to flame all the pumpkins, flowers, etc., that hold the hidden fairy on each board. It's easier to attain extra lives too, so that you can build up your supply before trying to complete that hard board.
Cons:
***Spyro is a little harder to control on the GBA(but you soon get use to it)
***I still find it a little aggravating not being able to see very far in front of Spryo (even when you use your view button)
***Some boards have constanting jumping from one thing to the next, I prefer to be able to walk around and explore more. (of course this may not be bothersome to most)
Overall it is FUN game to play with lots of play time (in other words, you won't finish the game in two weeks and be bored with it). If you haven't tried Spryo now is the time to try. FLAME ON!

I got this game for Christmas and I just have to say it is excellent!! The graphics are goods, the gameplay is superb and it has all your fav characters!! This includes Zoe, Hunter, and of course Sparx your best friend. There are enough gems to get (7000) and just the right amount of fairies (100). Basically the story is about this two-headed monster Grendor that imprisons 100 fairies and your mission is to save them. His two heads have a terrible headache and using the wings of the fairies will provide the antidote. By getting enough fairies you can help Bianca (Hunters lover) open portals. There are 4 worlds: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer and in each are lots of gems and fairies to get. But beware: on your way to going to the Spring world Grendor shows up and you have to destroy him. He's a pushover though: 3 hits and he's down!! Some of the fairies are obvious to see (they're right in front of your face) but others appear if you've flamed enough burnable objects e.g candles, flowers, pool or done tasks for people. The only downside is that the game's too short. After 3 days I had completed 60%!! This is a game worth buying and is a good value for money!! Good luck on it!!
