Spyro

I hated this game because it was the same thing each level, find the fairies and get the jewels. The levels got very boring after a while, and I was glad when I beat the game. I don't recommend this game to anyone. I hated it.

A frustrating let-down

OK, first of all, I have the 3 original Spyro games for Playstation, and I love them, so when I got my GBA, I immediately bought this Spyro game and the second one, Season of Fire. I haven't played the second one yet, but I'm almost afraid to, because this one was so disappointing. The graphics are great, I'll give you that, but that's about where it ends. The gameplay is horrible, like others have said. The controls seem to be opposite of what I would expect, and charging always makes my arm ache from trying to control him in tight turns. Also, the fact that you die if you put your toe in a puddle is really annoying, especially since the storyline shows that it's supposed to be after Spyro learned to swim. The most frustrating level so far for me is the hummingbird port, where you have to glide to different platforms, most of which you can't see without moving the camera to search for them, and all of them are impossible to tell which are above and which are below you. I've found that a basic rule is that if it looks higher, it's below you, and if it looks lower, then it's above you. I gave up on that level when I couldn't find any more sections to go to, and just kept going in circles. I do like the speedways, and also Sparx's worlds, but that's not quite enough to off-set the frustration from the other levels. It probably wouldn't seem so bad if I hadn't already gotten so good at the playstation versions, so if you are just looking for something to pass the time on the road or something, go ahead and buy it. But if you are looking for a Gameboy version of the original Spyro games, don't bother. Though, I'll try Season of Fire, and maybe Spyro Orange, which my stepmom owns, before giving up on GBA Spyro.
As a side-note, when are we going to get to play Bentley the Yeti? He was my favorite. I'd buy the game if he were in it.

Great game, lighting is terrible

Love the game, spyro is my favorite. Lighting on gameboy advance is terrible and takes awhile to get game in position to play. Wish game was made for playstation or other platforms.

Initial impressions - a little disappointing

These are only my initial impressions, but I guess I expected a bit more from this game. Sure, its the same ol' dragon and his move over to GBA is certainly welcome. But, the music is no where near as exciting and cinematic as the tunes of Stewart Copeland (of the Police) that graced the Playstation titles. The sense of a new world unfolding before you is somewhat lost in the cramped views of the GBA.

And the 3-D graphics seems a little clunky, some would even say 2-D ! Now admittedly this may be a platform limitation, but the perspectives can be quite difficult to see at times and the angle can't easily be changed. The backdrops lack the sparkle and quirkiness of the Playstation titles, and sometimes don't merge all that well into one another. At times, it appears as if Spyro either moves through objects or is stuck a little above them.

I'm looking forward to playing through more of the levels, and enjoying some of the new play options for Spyro. But, I'm not expecting this game to have quite the pizzaz as the original Playstation games !

Spyro Rules!...

'Spyro: Season of Ice' rules! I love it. It's alot like the Spyro games for PS1. You still fly into portals to go to other levels. You can flame, charge, jump, glide and hover. The controls are very easy to get used to, I had them down pat in about 15 minutes. It has all of the characters you grew to know and love from the earlier Spyro games. The rinos are back but this time it's a two-headed librarian in charge instead if the defeated queen. He has sent out a spell to freeze all of the fairies and Spyro must save them. This game is alot of fun and if you like the PS1 Spyro then you'll love this game.

This game is awful! Absolutly, positively DON'T buy it.

I own the first three Spyro games and when this one came out I coudn't wait to get it. However, I made a serios mistake. Spyro can't move very well, and you die the second you come near water, which I think is terrible seeing as this game is supposed to take place AFTER he learned to swim. This game has bad graphics, annoying speedways and Sparx levels, and can't show elevation. As a general rule, everything looks completly flat so when you go to make a glide, you find out the place you're gliding to is too high. Furthermore, enemies with missles and fireworks take about two seconds aiming at you then they just blow you up. In conclusion NEVER, EVER buy this game!

Same old spyro, though a bit small

I love spyro, and this game fit well as to follow the storylines of the others. My biggest complaint of this game was that I felt there were too many worlds where you could fall off the edge. On a larger screen that might not have been a problem, but sometimes I swear, I couldnt see that edge on such a tiny screen. I think that they could have added a bit more variety to the game as well in reguards to playing other characters and variety to the worlds. If you like the old spyro games, then definately get this one, though be warned, the small screen makes it a bit more challenging.

Spyro-Graphics are hot, Gameplay is ice cold

I was very excited to pick this game up. I love the Spyro games on the Playstation, but this...this is just horrible. The graphics are very nice and pretty, but controlling Spyro is almost impossible. It may be just me, but Spyro seemed to be committing suicide throughout the game, as I kept accidently making him walk off the edge of a cliff. I'm very bored with it, and it's currently gathering dust in my "Rejected Games" pile. Hopefully, Crash for GBA will be much better, as the team behind Tony Hawk for GBA is working on it. Better luck next time, Spyro and friends.
