First, I have to say that the whole reason I ever bought a Gameboy was when the Pokemon Yellow, Red, and Blue versions were released. Their popularity lead to my downloading the games to my computer, and then, when I realized the extent of my obsession and the games' bountiful play-time, I deleted all those lousy roms and gave Nintendo the money they deserved. My first Gameboy game was Pokemon: Red, and I've never looked back.
The Pokemon: Ruby and Pokemon: Saphire games are the latest in the Pokemon craze that's sweeping the wallets of RPG fans across the world. Having purchased the Ruby version, I find it a refreshing change from some the past versions. Sure, you've still got the basic plot sequence where you (the trainer) has to "catch 'em all", eventually rising to face the Pokemon League and become the Champion. But this time, there's a nice plot to carry things along. Team Magma (or Team Aqua, depending on your version) each have their own plans to alter the world to give more room to Pokemon, though each have not thought out the environmental consequences of their actions. Team Magma seeks to expand the world's landmasses, but by doing so, they released Groudon, a Pokemon that increases the heat of the sun, thus damaging the land. It's up to you to defeat Groudon, thus restoring the land to its original state.
If new Pokemon was what you hoped to see, you won't be dissapointed. The majority of the Pokemon featured in this game are newly discovered. A let down to a lot of gamers is that you can't transfer Pokemon from older versions of the game to Ruby or Saphire. But for the older folks who might not know any others willing to admit they play Pokemon, you can just focus on trying to catch/evolve all the Pokemon found in your version.
The new feature I enjoy the most, I believe, would have to be the new Pokemon Contests. In these contests, Pokemon pit their moves (Stomp, Mega Drain, Sand-Attack, etc.) against other Pokemon. These moves have a totally different effect that they do in battle, and the type of the move (Tough, Smart, Beauty, Cute, Cool) plays a difference in the type of contest you enter. While I've not yet beat all the various levels of the Contests, I'm having a blast trying!
I've taken on the Elite Four a couple times, and though my Pokemon are all at level 49, they still aren't ready. Wish me luck, and good luck to all you trainers out there. May you all become Champions!
awsome!!!

The best RPG (Role Playing Game) besides Golden Sun for GBA! Unbelievable graphics, sound, and the best part is Nintendo's creativity in making this game! I was doubting this at first because pokemon is sort of "out" right now but don't believe anything that the people say! Just buy it and play it! You WON'T regret it!!!
pokemon keeps comin

This game is just as good as all the other ones (that means it's an awesome game). with the improved graphics and new pokemon you can't help but give it 5 stars. It stays true to the old pokemon games and doesn't veer off from the old style of battling and puzzles...
The honest truth about this game pleassse read

I don't know why nintendo did this ruby and sapphire are horrible
this game is full of cons like you can't trade to R,b,y,s,g,c, its impossible to catch 'em all, they took out all your old favirot pokemon like mewtwo, can't use gb color ,it don't get dark, the pokemon don't move like in crystal,it takes too long to save, too hard to catch pokemon and use hm moves, the elite 4 are way 2 hard,no more cool cheats like missingno.,thegame isn't original like red and blue were,im sorry to say the 2on2 battles are sooooo stupid!! this is a step down from crystal!!If i were you go buy red or crystal versions they're the best.PS graphics are still bad for a gba game and there is no good thigs about this game at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Based on everything I have heard...

Well, based on everything I have heard, this game sounds really fun. I mean, 2 on 2 battles, 100 new Pokemon! Thats great. Though, there is a down side, you can't trade pokemon?!?! I mean, where is Charzard? I mean, he was the best~!! Or what about Squirtle. He was cool too. O well, I mean overall it sounds like a pretty fun game!
IT's Ok......

THis game is ok. But the problem is that most of the pokemon that are in red, blue, yellow, gold, silver, crystal, etc. are not there. I was hoping celebi was there. But it isn't. The good thing is that there are new places, new characters, new pokemon, and the cool thing is that you can send out two pokemon at the same time. But I burrowed this game from a friend and I got tired of it. The graphics are ok, but i say that crystal is better. I had all the pokemon games and its an ok game if you are really a pokemon collector. The good thing is that the game will take you quite a long time to finish so you will not be bored for quite a long time.
