Ive yet to find any sort of flaw in this game. I played it for 4 straight months at least once a day. The graphics are outstanding although it requires a great video card, and the game play is really fun. You can spend hours on campaign mode launching an imperial campaign on the rest of the world. Or you can spend hours fighting on the battle field. Overall, a tremendous ground-breaking rts game from the total war series. A must buy!
Perhaps the best Roman game ever

I really enjoyed the previous games in the series, so I was quite excited when this game came out. I rarely buy games new because of the cost, but I had to make an exception of Rome: Total War. I'm quite fond of the battle speed, since it (to me) represents the speed in which battlefield commanders had to make command decisions in the heat of battle. Even if it does seem to move too fast, you can simply press "P" to pause the game so that you can give orders to your heart's content. You can start a battle and see what strategies the enemies are using, then pause the game and redelpoy your troops accordingly.
A Power House of a Strategy Game.

I've spent the last 2 days slaughtering Gauls and holding back the Carthaginians. Need I say more? This game is worth more then the 50$ price tag they have put on it. Buy it if your into strategic battles and epic game play!

I love this game, i've been waiting for it for 4 years, and it looks finely polished. If you compare the demo to the final version, the demo will end up being like comparing a 1914 ford car to a lamborghini. The graphics are amazing, and the AI is well programmed, much better than they were in medieval. you can visit twcenter.net and look around, the game is great, and you'll love it. Its a must get.

I don't want to say much because there are excellent "educational" reviews about this game by other players. I just want to add my voice to the chorus that sings: "Whauw, great, great, great". This pc game is a hobby, not a toy. "Total War" is the biggest, the greatest, the best.
Total War is totally awesome!

This is one of the best strategy games I have ever played. I have always been a fan of strategy games, whether they be real-time, or turn-based but this one gets the prize. I'll divide the ratings into sub-catagories for an easier more accurate review:
Graphics: 10/10. This game has the best graphics I've seen in a strategy game and I've seen alot. The battles a immense in size and variety, and the graphics are awesome every time I go into a battle. Each battlefield looks different, and each has a stunning amount of detail.
Audio: 10/10. Again, this game has the best most realistic sound effects and audio that I've ever heard in a strategy game. The speeches from your general sound like your right by him, and when you zoom in to see your troops up close and personal you can hear them clearing they're throats and grunting when they fight. You can even hear the horses whinning and see the steam come out of they're nostrils when its cold out.
Gameplay: 10/10. This is where this game could get five stars from me just with this rating alone. This game is actually two games in one: Turn-based, and real-time. The construction and training, and otherwise managment of your empire is the turn-based part. And the extremely awesome battles are the real-time part. I like managing my empire and all, but my real thing is the battles! They are so fun and detailed I can't even scrape the surface of them. When you're in the middle of a battle all of a sudden weather effects will kick in. So you'll be fighting in rain or snow or a dessert storm and so on. It's awesome! Here's some more small details: There is a tutorial, an imperial campaign, custom battles mode, multiplayer, and quick battle mode to add even more fun to this game! Each mode is highly detailed and unique, although I havn't gotten around to playing the multiplayer yet.
Overall: 10/10. This review comes down to saying that this game is down-right sweet, and I know I will be enjoying it for many months (even years) to come. I strongly suggest that you buy this game, and if you do I hope it will bring you the fun and enjoyment that it has brought me. God bless!

in order to command well, you have to use a pretty far away view, then all soldiers became so small, like a group of ants.
Though impressing when stationary, however, when in action, the 3D soldiers act so awkwardly, like puppets. For those interested in the Roman genre strategic games, I'd rather recommend other games like "Nemesis of the Roman Empire" or "Legion" by Slitherine.

Rome; Total War is the most fun I've ever had on my computer. The gameplay rocks, graphics: phenominal, and its combination of strategy and combat is intertwined so well that you feel as if you're actually running a Roman city/state during Ancient Rome's golden age.
Don't be hypnotized by graphics !

Based on graphics, this game had the potential to be great. Sadly, it falls flat and becomes unplayable to more observant players due to the terrible implementation of battles. One's only option for a 'playable' game is to play the scenarios and 'auto-resolve' battles, disregarding the much hyped battlefield scenes. The failure of this game is the result of terrible workings of units both manually and through its AI. Battles are a burden as attentive gamers must constantly "babysit" each of their units through the most basic of movements and individual fight choices. Children or other less conscious players may enjoy just charging armies into the enemy and smile with no regard to how many of their own soldiers die. These are ones that will rave about the game. Those more aware however, will wonder why those basic problems were not fixed before the game was released. Rome TW IS a beautiful game to watch, but NOT an enjoyable game to play.
great game but a bit fast

i just started to play the game and found it fantastic. the graphics are breathtaking and the game will work well with even pretty antiquetated computers. the only problem is that the pace of the game is too fast compared to the pervious total war games, but once you get used to it, you don't even notice it.
