GREAT GAME
First of all I would like to say something to "Moose", who wrote the Dec 19 2004 review. "Mr. Moose, if you are not challenged by the game then why dont you CHANGE THE F***ING DIFFICULTY LEVEL!"
Now that I got that out of the way...
I really love this game. In the previous game (Medievil: Total War) you play on a map of europe, some of asia, and north afica. The map is divided into provinces and you can only move your units between provinces, so there is not much strategy in the campaign mode. This, howerver, changes in RTW. The campaing is more like Civilizaition, but better. You move armys/agents like they were characters on the map, just like Civilizaition. But one thing this game alows is realistic battles. Not in the battle engine but in the map. You can only cross rivers at fords/bridges, and usually your army uses roads to move through tough terrain. All this means that usually battles are fought over strategic positions. A bridge that allows acsess into Italy is naturaly very important to an invadeing army. So you are smart you can use this to your advantage. Another differece between RTW and MTW is the armys actualy have to meet.
When your army finaly does meet you can let the computer resolve the battle or fight it yourself. When you fight it yourself you will fight in the same terrain as is shown on the Campaign map. This is where the game excells. The graphics are beautiful. I am always stunned when my great armys go up against other armys in an epic clash only seen in the Lord of the Rings (movie). The battles are stunning, it is amazing watching thousand of troops killing eachother. More amazing is wathcing the profesionalism of Roman troops.
The game keeps historical acuracy, so the troops fight like there real counterparts. Roman legions are orgnaized and effective agianst most barbarians, they fight like Romans. Each legionary has two pila (plural for pilum) which is the Roman javalin. The Romans used these to break up enemy ranks before they attacked, and same it is in the game.

The graphics are great, every battle seems like an epic confrontiation between two or more empires.
Sound 10, Beautifl
The Sound is very good, it realy adds to the realism. And the Soundtrack is great. There is one track in paticular which has a imperialistic soud to it that really adds to the overall game enviroment.
Gameplay 10, AWESOME!
As I went on and on about at the top, the gameplay is great.

Crap Crap and more Crap. Poor game play, weak concepts, no fun at all. This game may be realistic, but realistic isn't always fun. Way to difficult to control a battle, campaign mode is boring and stupid. No city building is the real sense, poor empire maps, and way to big to navigate. Too much is going on behind the scenes. Where do I get my money back!

Whether you want a board-game style tactical experience, or violence and action; this game is for you. Easy to play but advanced nevertheless, this game is addictive nd will keep you on the edge of your seat for hours, prehaps days.
Play as the roman empire defending rome or the gauls after rome. Play as egypt or carthage and try to become even greater than rome. Play as scythia, armenia or greece and hope rome doesn't kill you. What more can you ask for in a game?
Command huge armies in battle and huger cities in peace. Or just sit around doing nothing until you feel like taking over the world (I dont care).

Have a Good Divorce Lawyer Lined Up Before Buying This Game!

A middle age professionals' opinion - simply the best darn strategy game EVER! My wife absolutely HATES this game because I've been playing it for hours on end since I purchased it several months ago (while I totally ignore her).

Don't let the nay-sayers sway you into passing this game up! While there are a few AI glitches I don't go looking for them and if I stumble across one I avoid taking advantage of it. So the gaming experience is outstanding!

I have no idea how somebody could rate this game as 1 star. They are obviously must be some kind of PC gaming "high-brow".

Just one word of caution if you're married - you may want to have a good divorce lawyer lined up before you buy this thing because I warn you - you will be spending a rediculous amount of time playing it!

I had no idea that this game even existed until I saw it in stores about a week after it came out. I already owned Medieval Total War but the disk got damaged so I couldn't play a campaign anymore. I took a look at this game and decided to buy it. I got home and played it until midnight.

It is truly a strategy game it is not just a slash and burn war game where you can just take any city you want. you have to plan finances and decide if the city you want to take would help your empire our just be a drag on your economy.

The graphics are amazing and the control on the battlefield is amazing. you really posses the discipline that made the roman legions so famous and deadly. You also get really involved in the game. after a couple of days I found myself actually hating the gauls and carthage just as the romans did.

so go out and buy rome total war today.

Worth the time and the money.

Before buying this game, I had played all of the previous Total War programs each of which was better than the previous. This game follows the same pattern and is better, by far, all of the other versions. The graphics are excellent, the interface is simple and the sound is great. I am glad that I ignored the negative reviews that have been posted about this game and bought it anyway.

This game is so in depth yet easy and fun to play. This game is a must have for all war gamers. I think that thus far this game is the best game I have ever played.

My real name is Mark Butler, the thing is screwed up any way.

First i got this game on Christmas and when I first played it was so cool and when I had to go I just said "no" and kept playing till it was 5:00a.m. well anyway im going to tell you about it. When I got on this game the 2th time I got in my first battle when the barbarians (Gauls) and whne I marched my army at first I didnt know what the heck I was doing so my mom bought the rome strategy guied I learned so much about this game so. wI notice something so very cool, I charged my calvery in the frontline (my camera was on side view) went my calvery charged in, some of the Gauls went flying in the air and brought the Gaul army down to the ground and that when i knew tis game was going to be cool!!!.

ok Review: Sound:10 if you have war dogs you can hear them bark and when you go to charge you can hear them say charge and probaly my fav is when you kill them you can hear them grunt and fall over dead, and hear the stabing and metal clashing!!.

Video:(Graphics) 10 i give it a ten because you can see the game like its acally real! and when you calvery or infanty march or charge, their not skipping or whatever you call it, there acally going like in real life. also if you have a really small video you can set it in the main menue.

GamePLay: 10 Becuase when you first play it you'll very hooked on this game and so well your friends! anyhoo, when you first play it you'll to take care about the campain map and your battling skills and tactics. also if you really play this game long enough (like me) you'll be so powerful you may won't to take over Rome!

Overall: 10!!! I say this is pretty damn very very good game!! if you like age empires you'll really love this game. and when you think you are ready just mabey think about taking on other people on the internet. The game would not load. Nothing I or the usual advisors could do would make it load. It was like 10 years ago and I don't want a repeat of those days. I'll try another in 6 months or a year.

Despite ground breaking graphics and a great deal of innovative stuff, overall this is a disappointing game. Too many bugs, a lack of solid gameplay and pitiful AI.
