Pokemon 2.5 (Crystal version.) An updated version of the second installment in the Game Boy Pokemon RPG series.
Nintendo's Pokemon franchise became a massive success in its native Japan relatively quickly. Although it took the franchise a little longer to catch on in America, it finally did catch on, and when it did, it took the nation by storm. Pokemon games and products sold like crazy, despite the fact that the franchise was virtually unrecognized in America at its time of release. Finally in the late summer/early fall of 2000, the second games in the series got an American release. An updated version followed not long after. How does Pokemon 2.5 measure up? Read on for my review.
PROS:
-THIS GAME GIVES YOU MORE OF THE SAME MONSTER CATCHING AND BATTLING ACTION THAT YOU HAVE GROWN TO LOVE IN THE FIRST GAME. To put it simply, if you liked the first game, it's quite unlikely that you won't like this one.
-THE GAME GRAPHICS ARE DRASTICALLY IMPROVED OVER THOSE OF THE PREDECESSOR TITLES. In this game, the graphics are not only improved, but the game is also optimized to make usage of Game Boy Color and Super Game Boy enhancements. The Crystal version even adds in new pre-battle animations!
-IT'S NOT JUST A REHASH OF THE FIRST GAMES. Although the game uses the same general formulas, the game is entirely new, and the world is much larger this time around. Beat the game, and you can even go to the continent where the original game took place!
-NINTENDO DESIGNED THIS GAME WITH PLAYER CONVENIENCE IN MIND. Remember how in the first game you had to go through all those menus just to use an item (like your bike or fishing pole?) Well, in this game, you can set the select button to use an item! This really comes in handy and speeds up the general flow of the game.
-TONS OF NEW CREATURES AND ABILITIES. The original games had roughly a hundred and fifty-one creatures, and these games give you roughly a hundred new ones! This is too cool.
-THE GAME HAS AN INTERNAL CLOCK THAT KEEPS TRACK OF THE TIME OF DAY AND THE DAY OF THE WEEK. Different events happen at different times of the day and on different days. This makes the game all the more appealing.
-YOU CAN TRADE WITH ALL OTHER POKEMON RPG GAMES THAT PREDATED THE GAME BOY ADVANCE ONES. This will make it easy to get your hands on certain creatures from the old games. In fact, some the old creatures DO NOT appear in these games, so you're gonna have to do some trading to complete your Pokedex.
-THE GAME INTRODUCES THE CONCEPT OF BREEDING POKEMON. If you get a male and a female Pokemon together at the Daycare center, they just might lay an egg! This concept is necessary to get many of the new "baby" Pokemon in the game.
-THE GAME INTRODUCES TWO NEW POKEMON TYPES - DARK AND STEEL. Adding in the new types means you're going to have to rethink your gaming strategies - or create new ones entirely! The new types only add to the overall fun of the game.
-CRYSTAL VERSION ADDS IN SOME NEW FEATURES. For example, in this version of the game, you can play as a female trainer! Also, there is a new Battle Tower added to the game, where you can test out your combat skills.
CONS:
-MINOR COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WHEN TRADING WITH OLDER GAMES. For example, you can't send the new Pokemon species into your older game, nor can you send old species that have new moves. This is bound to get on your nerves, believe me.
-THE MYSTERY GIFT CONCEPT IS FLAWED. If you and a friend own a Game Boy Color, you can use Mystery Gift with your infrared ports to each get a random item, once a day. The only problem is that this requires a Game Boy COLOR - The Game Boy Advance doesn't have an infrared port!
-NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SUPER GAME BOY. Gold and Silver were compatible with the Super Game Boy and all of the pre-Color Game Boys, so why isn't Crystal?
-THIS GAME LACKS THE MOBILE PHONE FEATURES OF THE JAPANESE VERSION. The Japanese version of Crystal featured mobile phone features so that players could battle each other from far away. Too bad those didn't make it into the American version.
OVERALL:
Pokemon 2 and 2.5 are, to date (as of July 4, 2004), the best games in the Pokemon series. In my mind, these games are even better than the new Game Boy Advance games, Ruby and Sapphire. If you can find one of these Pokemon 2 games in your local used games store, they are well worth picking up. Pokemon games aren't likely to get a whole lot better than these ones.
crystal is enhanced to g&s as is yellow to blue and red

Like I said, this is just like a special version of gold and silver. It has the option of choosing a girl character, a pop up sign that tells you when you enter a new area, new and better battle animation, and a new pokedex. If you liked yellow, you'll like this. Some say there may be new moves, but they couldn't have new moves and have it still be compatible with pokemon stadium 2 as it is.
A pretty cool game

Me? Im no pokefreak. It died on me when I was 10. But i got sick of all my other gameboy games one day so i pick up my old yellow pokemon cartridge and started playing. Well waddaya know i got back into it. So i figured why not go pick up a copy of crystal. So i did, and i wasn't disappointed. I dont have gold or silver so i don't give a darn about that same or different stuff. And those of you who don't know that you catch suicune in the tin tower instead of in the wild don't know anything.
Not bad.

OK, I used to think Pokemon was the dumbest thing ever. I admit it. But, one Christmas, after asking for a GameBoy and ending up getting it, I found out that Pokemon Crystal Version came with it. I'd have been pretty stupid to just ignore it, so, one day, I decided to play it. I spent HOURS on it! It is quite addictive. If you don't like Pokemon, it's pretty good. If you DO like Pokemon, this is the game for you!
CRYSTAL IS COOL

POKEMON CRYSTAL IS THE FIRST POKEMON GAME THAT LETS YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN GENDER. THERE IS A NEW RIVAL THATS OBSESSED WITH CATCHING SUICUNE. WHEN YOU RUN INTO WILD POKEMON THEY MOVE, YES, THEY ACTUALLY MOVE E.G.(lUGIA HEAD MOVES UP AND DOWN, EYES BLINK, TAIL SWAYS, ECT.). THE LEGENDARY DOGS/CATS/WHATEVER ARE FIGURES JUST LIKE HO-OH AND LUGIA. YOU CAN GET CELEBI BY GETTING THE GS BALL. THEN GIVE IT TO KURT FOR A DAY THEN COME BACK AND GET THE BALL AND PUT THE BALL IN THE SHRINE IN ILEX FORREST. I DON'T BELIVE HO-OH IS IN CRYSTAL. THE SHINY POKEMON ARE EASIER TO GET. THEIR ARE NEW TM'S THAT ARE ALREADY INTHE GAME BUT NOT AS TM'S. THERE ARE NO NEW POKEMON BUT THE GAME IS STILL FUN. YOU'LL BE ABLE TO TRADE TO AND FROM RED, BLUE, GOLD, SILVER, BUT NO NEW POKEMON OR ATTACKS CAN BE TRADED TO RED AND BLUE. CRYSTAL IS ALSO COMPATABLE WITH POKEMON STADIUM 2. POKEMON CRYSTAL WILL BE AVAILABLE JULY 30,2001.

If you havent played the gold or silver verions this is definetely the way to go. Great strategy game and un for everyone. But if you have played the previous versions you have to be aware that is basically the same game and you have to be willing to start everything over and is not as much a challenge anymore because you already know all the puzzles and stuff. The improvements in this game are the trainer tower here you get to pick the level of your oponent, also you get to choose te gender of your trainer, cool animations and you can catch all 250 pokemon( you can't catch celebi).
Best pokemon game yet.
The best Pokemon game !

This game is so macho. It is SUPER COOL how the pokemon make little movements. For example, Raikou will growl at you and Cyndaquil will flare up its back. Also you can choose to be a boy or a girl. I had suddenly lost interest in pokemon but than I got it right back. Also you can find pokemon that were almost impossible to find in the other versions. In Gold, you could only find super-rare Teddiursas on Route 45. (Near the end of the game.) But here at the route 31 entrance and Route 45 entrance for Dark Cave, You can find Teddiursas and ursarings ranging from level 2 to level 30. But now, Teddiursas can't be found on normal routes anymore. Neither can phanpies.Phanpy, that little elephant-like poke, Can be found on Route 29 at level 2, but you can't find him anywhere else. Also, Hoppips that couldn't be found until Azalea Town can be found right outside new Bark Town. And another thing. In Olivine City there is a new place called the Battle Tower. You can fight trainers with 3 pokemon each at a certain level. But you can only have 3 pokemon at the same levels or lower. But it is dangerous. I had fought a level 10 Houndour who knew FIRE BLAST! Then, you can now find Suicune at a certain place, although its a secret. It will also let you know if you found by having different music than normal wild pokemon. Also, at the daycare center, when you first get there, the old man will give you: the Odd egg. It will hatch into a random baby pokemon such as Pichu or Magby. Pokemon also have a higher chance of being shiny. You can also get evolution stones from trainers for beating them. So, all in all, pokemon crystal is a great game. You should buy it. in the fall, they are coming out with a game only for Game Boy Advance, Pokemon Advance. It features more than 345 pokemon. Well, thats basically it. Bye.
Great game, A must buy for Pokemon fans!

I got this game roughly two years ago (i beat for the second time, today!) if you have bought Gold or Sliver, don't buy this is basically the same thing, just with some tweaks.
This is the longest Pokemon game, because you can go to Kanto and fight those Gym leaders. Except that Giovanni is replaced with Blue(Gary). One thing that is the reason i knocked a star off. To easy, like the 3rd Gym leader in the Red etc. is more than the 4th in Crystal, even the 2nd Gym leader in yellow is only 4-5 levels lower then the 4th in Crystal, oh and team rocket, is hardly a challenge, they're just good for getting experience. one of the only hard things is Red (Ash) he is FREAKISHLY good, unless your pokemon are like level 80*cough*.
Pros- The new Radio, you can gain items from a talk show, and one program tells you where certain Pokemon are, also the phone were people can tell you valuable can information or give you items
-You can beat Kantos Gym leaders to!
-Great for younger gamers (6-10) because it's not so hard
-The new pokemon are great (Ruby and Sapphire are great games but Nintendo is getting desperate!)
-Just an overall fun game! You should really buy it
Cons- Just one:EASYNESS
Elite Four is like no problem what so ever, the first time I played it I was trained up and my Pokemon were awesome, and then I'm like: Damn, these guys are like lvl 40
Gym leaders...easy....
Rival.....Easy......Only hard thing is Red, who actually has lvl 60 pokemon WOW BIG ACCOMPISHMENT
Despite the pure easiness of the game it's good fun, and I would highly recommend it.
I forgot to put this in but the Battle Tower in Olivine City is fairly challenging.
Bidding you Adieu- a gamer...guy.,...yeah...

Just to let you all know, I've played the Japanese version of the Crystal game. And, put simply, it's a great game. It has several new features that make it seem much more "real". Your mother has a friend over when you walk out of your room at the beginning. Professor Elm is now working at a computer and gets the message from Mr. Pokémon right as you visit him. The Pokémon all have neat little animations you see when you run into them. Some new items, the chance to catch Celebi, and being able to be a girl all make it more fun. (And, eh-heh, the girl is quite the looker for supposedly being ten years old.) As Yellow did to Red and Blue, a mixture of the G/S Pokémon is found in Crystal. I advise any die-hard fans (Or even those that just want a new game to test) pick it up and give it a shot.
