It deserved a sequel?

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 21

How did the last one deserve a sequel? granted they never finished the story but who the hell cared? the story was LAME. And in response to people that try to write like "true RPG fans" they aren't this is a VERY simple bare bones RPG veterin RPG players will get bored and lose interest VERY fast in this game the battle system was the only redeaming quality but it couldn't save this train wreck of a game because they wasted so much time talking. holy crap let's sit around in town talking about everything we're gonna do then talk about it while we do it then discuss what happened and the consequences afterwards but also for fun we'll throw in a whole bunch of worthless dialouge that slows the process down so that it takes 3 hours just to say that you did a good job in the last dungeon. just wanted to shut it off at times but I had to play through it with the hopes that the ending would be worth it and it wasn't worst part about the games story was the fact that there weren't any twists the people at nintendo made sure of that through over explaining every step the characters took. so unless you like wasting your time with endless dialouge skip this game.

|3.5| Hurt by a horrible plot and a generic battle system.

Golden Sun: The Lost Age is by no means a mediocre game. Considering it IS a handheld video game, it is far above average. It is addicting as hell and can be very enjoyable. However, with any RPG, I expect a good story and a strong battle sytem and unfortunately, The Lost Age does not deliver.

Starting off on a good note, The Lost Age is very pretty for a handheld. The effects and animations are very impressive and the game packs a lot of polish. Also, the music is not bad at all, though sometimes annoying. The sound effects are great. You couldn't ask for much more out of a handheld.

Like I said, the game kind of falls flat when it comes to gameplay and story. The plot is not bad to the point where it is unbearable, but it is rather uninteresting and leaves much to be desired. Zero character depth and development only adds to the pain.

The battle system is very, very generic. 90 percent of the time you will probably just be pressing the attack button as fast as you can to get the battle over with. Pretty easy stuff, and you will be running into the same monsters over and over and over again.

What makes the game fun and addicting though is the exploration and puzzle solving. Pretty much every area or dungeon with enemies is like a maze, or one big or small puzzle. This can become very annoying and quite often frustrating, but you will always find yourself playing until you get past it, rewarding yourself with a sense of relief and accomplishment. The scope of the game is nice as well. Traveling from town to town, speaking to the locals is always nice.

Golden Sun: The Lost Age is a great little game. If a handheld can keep you hooked as much as this game can, it is definently worth getting. Just do not expect a great story, character development or depth, even in its gameplay. Just expect good ol' puzzle solving, exploration and addiction. Great replay value and long enough length. Thumbs up.

While this is the 2nd Golden Sun game, it is not so much a sequel as it is a continuation of the first game.

The story pretty much continues right where the first game left off and you are benefited greatly if youve played through the first game before hand.
You can carry over your characters if you have a save from the first game and this is the only way to get the best summons in the game.

The summons, or pokemon, are what make this game so much fun and they are absolutely beautiful to watch.
Though the puzzles in this game are about 500% more complex than the first game, the enemy fights are still way too easy.
Oh well...

In the end this is still a tremendous rpg and will last you quite some time... both games combined took me 56+ hours.
And while the game is lots of fun, it is still not perfect due to its ridiculously long dialogue parts.
But the pluses easily outweight the minuses and this is still one of the top 3 rpgs available on the Gameboy.

More of the same...

...which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. I've played through this game quite a few times, so please don't say I don't know what I'm talking about. The first gripe I have is that the update system from the first to the second game (now on known as 1 and 2 respectively). It's extremely frustrating to spend ten minutes copying down a six page code, and then, after having spent twenty minutes entering it in, fin out that one of the numbers you wrote in is wrong, which forces you do it all over again. If you have a game link cable, and an extra GBA, the your all set, but, the average joe (like me) doesn't. After you've entered in the code, which you won't lose until the very end of the game, you start off. If you've played the first game, there's not much new. Go around, learn new Psynergy, pick up Djinn, and be the righteous hero and help every citizen along the way. Not much beyond that. The main part I liked about this game is the plot, which seems to be lacking in every other Nintendo game. The plot is what stands out in this adventure. I won't spoil it for everyone else, but it is quite impressive. I love every bit of the story, that is, right up until the end. It really seemed to me that Reality was actually going to make an appearance in Nintendo, but I was sadly mistaken. Everyone's life is saved, and we're back to square one, with everyone happy and joyous, the only absentee being reality. I would really look forward to a new sequel in this series, however all I see in the future (reaing inbetween the lines on the ending), is some Baddie coming back who wants to rule the world, and The youngsters are plunged back into battle.

Conclusion

Music: 3/5 better than most, but not the breathtaking soundtrack you get in ZOE, the Fist of Mars.

Gameplay: 3/5 The best you'll find on the GBA now. The backgorunds are magnificent, and you can tell the producers at Camelot really put a lot of time into it.

Battle system: 2/5 Golden Sun never really had the most innovative battle system. It was always really plain. You attack, one of the enemies dies, they fight back, you get damage, you attack again and "fell" them (Nintendo loses points for not just saying killed. Reality, where art thou?)

Summons: 5/5 For those that don't know what these are, you attack with Djinn, then summon them as much stonger beasts. But, in this game, you really see fireworks. With many more summons, most of them being combination (nine mars, two mercury for example),they compose the best and only cinema sequencs in the game.

I'd buy it. In comparison to other Nintendo RPG games, it rules. But, for those of you who want reality, go pick up ZOE, the Fist of Mars.

Well, I have finished "The Lost Age" (although I haven't defeated Dullahan or...er, I'll let you find these yourself!), and I have to say that the experience was quite good, but not perfect (and sorry, but 5 stars is reserved for the truly great).

First, let me praise this little data animal. Golden Sun's graphics are top notch, improving (im my opinion) drastically over its predecessor. The summon spells look great, although they seem useless, and in fact I think that using them can HINDER your chances to win big battles, but they do look great. The number of hidden secrets is incredible, ranging from optional superbosses to top-notch summons to weapons dropped only by monsters. For the fun factor, this game ranks up there with the best - as far as the puzzles go, I would rank them with those found in Zelda and Lufia.

So, where's the problem? Well, unfortunately, GS2 is obviously not the end of the story, a fact which becomes painfully obvious early in the game. Whereas the first GS introduced us to this incredible new RPG universe, and the surely-upsoming GS3 will resolve the conflict for good, this game trudges along story-wise, simply playing through events in order to lead to the bolckbuster finale. I would liken this to the recent "Attack of the Clones"; this game's story is here merely to deliver events until the third game can be released. And for that, I knock off a star.

Oh, but maybe I'm nitpicking. I honestly haven't enjoyed PLAYING an RPG like this in a long time, and here's hoping that we get a few more like this. Even with the flaws, GS2 is a worthy sequel and is certainly worth your money (get it now, though, before it disappears like its predecessor!).

decent and fun game but low replay value

- Golden Sun 2 : the lost age - continues the story from the original Gloden sun. You can transfer your character stats, dejinn, and items from the original Golen sun with link cable or passwords.

- graphic - 7/10
same graphic as the first goden sun. not bad but could be improved.

- game control - 9/10
the game control for this game is very simple but its annoying to use phyenergy unless you eqipped it to your shoulden buttons because you are required to use them to solve puzzels frequently.

- sound - 8/10
the sound is decent for some maps while repetitive and irritating
for others.

- replayability - 5/10
the flaw of this game id that there is not enough side quests and
other alterations during game play for plays to want to replay the game. I find it hard to continue on my second time playing the game.

- overall -7.5/10
great game for RPG fans but can be improved.

this game is not perfect but it's still one of the best games you can get on GBA, so buy it if you like RPG games.

Its ok on its own

I found the game to be pretty good on its own, meaning not owning the original Golden Sun game. I missed out on the first and now I can't purchase it besides second hand, and after playing this one I intend to do just that. The story kind of kicks in a little bit before the end of the first game I think and basically you start with a bunch of level 1 characters so it IS a new game only expanding on the original's story. Overall its highly playable and easy to get into. I'm on my second game now trying to complete it.

will be the best

ok before u buy this game buy golden sun cuz it the continuation of the first. in this one you can combine different elemental dijin for even greater summons. The Lost Age will be far more expansive than that of the first game, and players will have the ability to meet and join parties of other characters, with party members coming and going as the story progresses. the graphics are brigther and better that the first and there is even a feature to upload your old data via link cable or passwords. wouldn't u like to know what happened to jenna, felix karadin and sheba. would they reach lumeria? stop wondering and buy this game its greater than the first.

This game is an RPG fan's DREAM! The graphics are great, the story is expansive, and it's still faithful to the original! I especially like the new multi-elemental summons you can use, such as Eclipse, Catastrophe, and the most powerful summons ever (that you can only get by getting all the Djinni in the original and transferring the data), Charon and Iris. If this game was 5000 bucks, I say it would still be underpriced. It's just that good.
