Awesome game

This game is awesome and so much more enjoyable than Mario Galaxy. I definitely had to grab an extra wheel so that my nephew could enjoy. The total cost w/ tax ran me about $[...], but I only buy the blockbuster games anyway, so I was due this small luxury. Enjoy kart-ing. :-)

good NOT great

first of all, anyone who says this game is even within sniffing distance of galaxy is nuts. this game is good, but not great. i'm not a mario kart buff, so this is my review ignoring how it compares to previous versions.

pros:
the game is fun. online play is awesome. sometimes there are long wait times, but it's worth it to race 11 other people from around the world. the levels look amazing, and for the most part the designs are great. the ability to use miis is great, and even cooler is seeing your miis injected into the race environment. for example seeing your mii on a billboard inside cocnut mall, or driving one of the cars in the coconut mall parking lot. replay value is a lot better than any standard game that you beat and then don't want to touch again. racing games, even when not great, never get old. especially when friends come over, or with the online options.

cons:
the characters voices and noises are limited, and get annoying REAL fast. the rubberbanding that's been mentioned is TERRIBLE! i can't tell you how many blue shells i've been destroyed with. i've probably raced over 100 times already, and have yet to get a blue shell myself, while in some races i've been hit with 4-5 blue shells in one race! this game has definitely crossed from skill into the luck zone, which is a shame. if there were an option for no special power boxes, i would turn it on. to be destroying competition, and then suddenly be in 9th place just because someone got lucky with a power up is a shame. especially when you get stuck with 10 straight bananas when you are in 9th. as someone else mentioned there's no rewarding feeling when you cross the line in first place. it's just a "phwew i finished before i could get creamed with another shell" feeling.

other:
i actually don't mind the wii wheel. while i'd probably be a little more consistant with the remote, actually driving is fun, and it hasn't hindered my racing abilities enough that it's made me want to switch. overall this game is good. with a few tweaks to the amount of special weapons in the environments, this game could have been amazing, which i think makes it more disappointing. i've been playing this game a decent amount recently because it is fun, but i don't get that "wow, i NEED to play this game because it's amazing, feeling that i get with galaxy"

Delivers the same fun of old MarioKart and more

I loved the old MarioKart and this game definitely delivers the same quality game that you just can't put down. The races are fun and not too complicated and it's not precision tuned turning, just fun racing, so any novice game player can pick it up. The wheel is so much more fun, but it's actually a little easier to race with the nunchuk! Nevertheless, I bought a second wheel because noone wanted to be left out.

Oh, the battles are just as fun as before, and you can even play retro battles from the old Mario.

An Amazing Game... But its a Disappointing!

Ever since I herd that Mario Kart was coming to the wii I was thrilled, I couldn't wait to play/buy it! Then as time pasted more information came out that it was going to come with a wheel that you could use during the game to give it the real driving experiance. It looked and sounded like it would be 100x better then Double Dash!

Now, I am a die hard Double Dash fan. I love the game! Buy if I had to choose between Mario Kart Wii vs. Mario Kart Double Dash I would pick Double Dash. Why? To me Dash is way better and funner to play. In the NEW game a lot of things of been changed and or deleted! For example: For all die hard GC fans who love using GC controller, in Mario Kart Wii... you won't! The controls are completely differnt and you can't even change them, WTF! Also, I don't know about you bit my friends and I always loved to play bombs. But guess what, its gone! Remember Baby Park aka Carnage Park, its gone too!

Overall the game is really cool and fun to play. It just would be nice if it had some of the old things that Double Dash had, at least they kept Peach Beach!

The graphics are great in the game. The music is great. Its tons of fun for the family and friends! Plus you get a FREE $20.00 wheel - you can't beat that! I would recommend all Wii gamers to go pick it up!

Not as good as others....

My main problem with this game is the battle modes. What were the developers thinking when they took away individual battles? Also, there is very little actual skill involved in racing, since the CPU will blast you to the back of the pack if you get too far ahead. I'm going back to Mario Kart 64 on the virtual console.

Rubberbanding ruins this game

I have grown up on Mario Kart games going back to the SNES. I've played and loved just about every one of them, but not Mario Kart for the Wii. I'll list off my problems with this game:

1. Too many racers. Why increase it? 8 was perfect.
2. Too many items. First place means nothing when there are half a dozen items that require no skill that the AI will use to knock you back to 12th. It's called "rubberbanding" when the AI can go from last to first in an instant. Skill means nothing in this game.
3. The Wii Wheel is mediocre at best. The sensing just isn't tuned correctly and it either turns too much or not enough. Using the nunchuk and Wiimote worked much better. It's no wonder the wheel came with the game for free, as it's not something anyone would actually pay for.
4. The graphics were disappointing. I wasn't expecting XBox 360 or PS3 level graphics, but they aren't any better than the GameCube Mario Kart game, Double Dash.

Overall it's a disappointing game that finally convinced me to trade in my Wii and get Rock Band for my 360.

Knocking Off 1 STAR for that AWFUL WII WHEEL REMOTE!!!!!!

This is a great game as expected. I would only pay full price for a Mario game. Every other title can be purchased when its on sale price.

Overall i am pleased with this game. I am most pleased that i can use my GameCube controller because that Wii Wheel is AWFUL and even without the wheel you have to hold the controller side ways in order to use it. Its just hard to control your KART if you dont have a standard controller. If you want to keep coming in at 12th PLACE keep using the nunchuk or wheel controller. I am surprised this isnt an issue for other people. Nintendo Wii's novelty has worn off & they need to keep developing every game with the standard controller in mind as a secondary choice because the nunchuks are just down right AWFUL at this point!!!!!!

Back to my review. This is a great game. Some of tracks feel a bit short but i enjoy it nevertheless. I noticed in terms of graphics it really doesnt steer far away from the GameCube version. Oh well i hope everyone else enjoys this =)

I love nintendo, and I love my wii, but be aware that you will get pounded playing this game! Twelve characters each getting lightning, blue shells, and the new POW block mean you might do more spinning out that racing. A great game, but if you wanna go fast, you may want to check out the N64 version for download.

Fun for the loyal... that's about it.

I was never a big Mario Kart fan but I decided to buy this one because I thought it would be a great addition to my Wii. I liked the innovative wheel and I was looking forward to the online play. Mario Kart didn't let me down in either of those departments. The online play is flawless and completely lag free even when playing world-wide. The controls are usually pretty solid and intuitive. There are numerous characters who can be unlocked as well as some different new vehicles, not to mention the ability to play as your Mii.

The reason for the low score, however, is the disappointing lack of fun and replay value. This game is by far one of the most frustrating games for the Wii simply because of the luck factor (at least when playing offline). The maps are not a very big improvement from the last Mario Kart- in fact, many maps seem to be trying to make you hate the game rather than to get you to enjoy it.

Overall, this game is definitely for the fan of the series and probably not for everyone else. It's a nice addition to the Wii but only for the online play and for the fun controls.

Also, why must we sit and watch the 10 minutes worth of credits after completing every Grand Prix Tier? You can't skip it and you are forced to watch it multiple times as if it's something we were asking for. It's quite annoying.
