Exploration and discovery in the convenience of your own home

This game has a lot of elements similar to games like RFOM, POP, and GOW with details that would compare to COD4. The visuals are spectacular and the storyline makes the game feel very believable. This is one of those games where you can replay it not only for the increased difficulty but also for the experience to revisit a place and time more commonly associated in history books. Finally a game for the PS3 that's not over hyped.

Brilliant, but a bit short.

I am very impressed with this game. Stunning visuals, great story, stellar voice acting, entertaining gameplay, and a lot of attention to graphical detail. There were occasional issues with the camera angles (only enough to count on one hand), but overall the gameplay was smooth and seamless. The one complaint I would lodge against "Uncharted" would be the length of the game, lasting just over 9 hours. Luckily, it is a fun enough game to secure replay value, but I still would have liked to have gotten a few more hours out of it to justify paying $60 for it.
All said and done, I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting it as it is an extremely fun game. Just be prepared for it to be a bit too short.

Truly a "must have"

I had been debating for the longest time on when I would go out and get a PS3. I was going to wait until the new white PS3s come however. This is going to sound crazy but after playing the demo on my friends PS3, this game alone made me get a PS3. I finally made the leap and now have all 3 systems, which sometimes makes me feel like a crazy gamer nut, (which I am but I try to tell myself I'm not, lol). Anyway, back to the game. :)

Obviously the gamplay is insanely fun to single handedly sell me a PS3. The graphics are top notch and the voice acting and story telling are some of the best and more enjoyable I've experienced. Even though the game is short it makes sense since your duration on the island is almost from morning until sunset.

Simply put. If you don't have this game, buy it.

Wow!

Wow!

I have just started Uncharted, perhaps 3 hours into it. I spent the first hour picking up my jaw as it constantly fell to the ground. What incredible graphics! I have a 1080p 46" LCD and I'm in there, living it, wishing I had a life like Drake =). Smooth, smooth, gorgeous graphics. Great character movement and controls. You gotta like a game that lets you climb walls and jump from one ledge to another, or the lets you swing on a vine. Awesome plot and cutscenes.

I refuse to read any other reviews at the moment because I simply don't want to spoil *anything*. This is the kind of game that leaves you with the feeling that you can't wait until you get to play it again. No other console game has done that for me in years. Way to go. This is probably one of the top "must have" PS3 games.

Fun, a blockbuster movie

For me, this was my Game of the Year. While Portal was more original and Bioshock had better atmosphere, Uncharted wins out in fun. The pacing is great and never gets boring, the acting, motion capture, environments, music and attention to detail are all highly polished and amazing. If you own a PS3, or has a friend that owns a PS3 you need to play this game.

The Best Video Game I have seen in Graphics and Content

Other reviews have said plenty about this game. I personally like games that are a combination of mystery and nature, a kind of Indiana Jones set up. This game gives you a feeling of that sort. The graphics and the sound are fantastic. I personally love nature and this game gives you an almost close to reality experience walking through jungles, ruins and streams. If you have a big 1080P HDTV, it almost feels like you are in amazon or caribbean jungles exploring on your own. The ruins are so real that gives you the feeling of being at Angkor Watts temples or Maya temples (this game has given me reasons to go visit those sites again). The only thing that is missing is the heat, humidity, and the smell. The visual effects even give you that partially!

After buying the PS3 (I bought it for Blue Ray player mainly and media center capabilities), I downloaded the demo for this game from Sony. I fell in love with that jungle experience where everything seemed to have been rendered in perfection. When I finished the demo, I had to buy the game to play it since it was so compelling and interesting to me. I have spent a week so far and I am not finished. I can not wait to get back home everyday and to take the game a bit further. And I can tell you, after I am done I will go back and play it again at different levels. One thing is that most of the sceneries are so picturesque that you can use to enhance the room environment once a while. In summary, if you enjoy mysteries, love outdoor and nature, and adventure travel, this will not disappoint.

Huge Success

This is by far the best game I have ever played. There is a little bit of something in it for everyone and anyone can play it. The game is somewhat of a movie and believe me, you will not be able to turn away because you will be anticipating what comes next. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and make it very exciting to play. I reccomend this game to everyone who like a lot of suspense and adventure. By the way a major plus is that there is limited free range so that all you really need to do is go and get done what needs to be done. I hope this helps anyone who is considering buying this game.

A PS3 'Must Buy'

Yes, Ratchet and Clank were getting awful lonely, and when you look at the top PS3 games, the highest rated ones are also available on the 360, so a top rated PS3 exclusive is a rarity these days (one year after the system debut... sadly). Until Drake's Fortune, the ONLY game that had me booting up the PS3 over my 360 was Warhawk. I can now say that Uncharted; Drake's Fortune is the best game out exclusively for that platform and ranks with the top games of last year.

GAMEPLAY (4*)

Gameplay is fluid and natural. This is a hybrid type game; part duck and cover 3rd person shooter and part puzzle solving platformer. The combination works well and doesn't dwell on one over the other for too long. The enemy AI is also excellent and will keep you on your toes. Additionally, about 3/4 of the way through the game, your gameplay style changes, and it does so just at the right time.

The problems with gameplay are the same ones that challenge EVERY platformer out there, camera control. In some instances it's just hard to maneuver the camera to get a good look at what they want you to do. Also, like most platform games, the story is a bit linear, with a few scenes seemingly over scripted.

SOUND (5* plus)

The sound quality from the score to the voice acting are all top notch, giving a true cinematic experience. The ambient noise is also very good and really provides a depth of immersion to the game. Overall, the sound production of this game is as good, if not better than, Bioshock (arguably the best example of sound use in a game... ever).

GRAPHICS (5* plus)

This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. This will be the game that you take out to show off the PS3 to your friends. The use of shading and the water effects are the best I've ever seen. There are some glitches, but they are minor. In general this game is a graphic showpiece.

OVERALL (4 1/2*)

The game IS short by today's standards, but the story is complete and you don't really feel cheated. You are left wanting more. Uncharted is a new franchise and Drake's Fortune sets a pretty high standard. I really like the characters that were developed in this game and Nate has a lot of that Indiana Jones panache. The Nate character is not all tough as nails, buff and oiled. He is purposely human. The developers used a lot of little things to impart Nate's humanity. They made it so his arms flail about a little when he jumps. He's dressed in clothes that normal people would wear. He displays emotion when faced with situations. All in all, this is what I hope is the beginning of many more stories to come.

Even though I give Uncharted an outstanding rating, it is not perfect. However, of all the games that I've played in the past year, I'd rank its enjoyment quotient right up there with games like Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect. The bottom line is that Uncharted; Drake's Fortune is just one fun game to play.

Best Game Of The Year

Ok so i know my title for this review will most likely upset some people, (the majority being Halo 3 fans) but I am a huge gamer, have all the consoles and this year no other game has been as heart pounding, exciting, dramatic and fun to me as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. This game has it all: superbly acted and voiced cutscenes, dramatic musical score, fun gameplay and the best and most intriguing story i've seen from a game all year.

Let's start the review with the best element: the story. I am a big RPG guy just because I love a truckload of cutscenes and story. This game doesn't disappoint in that category. You play as Drake, a relative of sir Francis Drake who was once on the trail El Dorado so naturally, the main character Drake wants to conclude the search that never ended and find the treasure. The characters are perfect and placed in a well balanced, intriguing and exciting story to find the lost treasure of El Dorado. The story and pace of the game is perfect and the way it is blended in with the game is so well done. I have just recently beaten the game and there is not one thing I'd change. I'd go into more details with the story but I don't want to give away a single detail that could result to a spoiler.

The graphics are great. Sometimes in the game, you'll find yourself walking, not running just to get a better glimpse at the amazing and detailed environments. Drake's clothes will get wet and eventually dry, the grass moves when you run through it and everything in the background moves when the wind blows. This is a great example of what the ps3 can do and in my opinion has saved it from being a bland system with nothing much to offer. Now the presentation isn't perfect. There is a bit of graphic tearing throughout the game and a few more little tedious stuff but nothing that really sticks out and ruins the experience.

The sound and music is perfect. The sound effects play an important role and really brings certain life to the game and to top it off, it has a breathtaking musical score which is truly the icing on the already tasty cake. Go to itunes and sample the soundtrack for yourself.

The voiceovers are pitch perfect as well, not only cause the game has a talented cast but because the cutscenes were filmed while the cast acted them out. So the voicing and motion capture were done at the same time and resulted in wonderful cinematic experience. The cutscenes had to be my personal favorite part of the game which really shows us how videogames are being taken to a whole new level.

The gameplay is great as well. Throughout the game, you'll get a great variety of weapons, including pistols, rifles and grenade launchers so you can really wreak some havoc upon the dirty mercenaries trying to kill you along the way. The game's combat doesn't stop there though. The game also brings with it an awesome hand to hand fighting system which is really cool and fun. You get awesome combos and really get to beat the crap out of the bad guys. I was really close to giving the game 4 stars though just because the combat can get old in some parts. In some areas, you'll fight dozens of guys, kill them, the tense music will stop, you'll try to leave the area and another dozen guys, all with shotguns will come running out. This can get tiresome in some spots. Now don't let that stop you from getting the game!! It's not a big thing and doesn't really make the game worse in any way. just thought I'd point that out.

Now the game's length isn't great but DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM GETTING THIS GAME! Sure the in-game story isn't 50hrs but the length is perfect for this game. If the game was much longer, instead of this game getting 5star reviews saying the game is a little short, it would be getting 3-4star reviews saying the game gets slow and drags on. Even after you beat the game, it's so much fun that you will want to play through it again and find the artifacts, (bonus items) that you missed the first time around and it's worth it just to go through all the excitement again. it's like watching Indiana Jones or Lethal weapon again. Nothing wrong with that at all.

This game isn't perfect of course, but that doesn't mean it deserves less than 5stars. The work necessary for this project was obviously put in and the end product is one hell of a game that has made the PS3 my favorite system right now.

Excellent game

After spending literally hundreds of hours with the complex Oblivion rpg I needed some simple, good fun. Uncharted is that and more. I had a great time with this game, but not just because of the gameplay, the whole presentation is great. The voice acting is up there with the best I've heard. The characters sound very natural, not forced and stiff like some games. They also have some genuinely amusing dialouge and the male and female lead characters have pretty good chemistry. I beat this game in two days because the story is very good and plays like a movie, I wanted to see what happens next.

The graphics are excellent. Like many others I stopped frequently to take in the beautiful sights and sounds. The cutscenes had a quality about them that was very surprising and innovative. The characters act very natural and relaxed, as realistic as I've seen in a video game. The gun play and cover system works very well and I actually looked forward to gunfights because they were a lot of fun (some people thought there were too many). The jumping, climbing and swinging parts were also fun thanks to solid control and realistic but forgiving physics. Naughty Dog (the developer) was smart not to make these jumps too hard because that just becomes tedious and frustrating, and they wanted to keep the story moving. Which is one of the reason the game is only about 8 to 12 hours long, it's more about the story and keeping it moving than fifty hours of complex gameplay. There are many unlockables that add some replay value, so I ended up playing for about 18 hours before I had to return it.

Another thing I liked was the female character. She was very cute and smart, but not ridiculously beautiful with huge boobs. Don't get me wrong...etc. etc. But it was refreshing to see a more regular female character.

I understand why people would complain about the game being too short, Sixty dollars is a lot to spend on a game that lasts two days. But in this case it didn't bother me, the length seemed just right (plus I rented it). There were some little flaws in this game: I thought looking around for hidden treasure was slightly more tedious than rewarding. Sometimes when you try to get cover by pressing the O button your character keeps jumping to the wrong wall and you get riddled with bullets. But these and any other flaws are so minor there really not worth mentioning.

Anyone with a PS3 who hasn't played this game should put it at the top of their list, the chances are good they'll love it.
