No Documentation

First of all, this is a fanTAStic game overall with outstanding realism. As a licensed gun dealer, former law enforcement officer, and former US Army infantry, I can verify that this is as real as it gets. Five Stars for game play, realism, sound effects, ballistics, etc., etc.

The only problem for me was the complete lack of any documentation, gaming guide, manual, etc. I'm admittedly a newbie to PS3 gaming. This is my first, and I am handicapped by not being born with a PS3 controller in my little hands. It takes a lot of practice to move and shoot with the required fluid and instinctive motion (not in real life, but with a PS3 controller). I could find no game information on the DVD, in the packaging, or on the Activision or Infinity Ward web sites, something I think is inexcusable.

Thank heaven there are game sites that have great information, but mostly directed to strategy and cheats. What a newbie like me needs is basic information about the game and what to do in general.

To the rescue is the BradyGames Official Strategy Guide. It provides invaluable information to a new player like me and great strategy and intel info that can lead to bonus features, a great advabtage to even the hard core gamers. The strategies and some intel info are available for free on some of the web sites, but it's nice to have a hard copy to pick up while the game is paused to figure out what the heck is going on. A great value for about $15 but something the publisher should have provided with the DVD.

I've read that some players were disappointed in how short the game is. That may be true for a dedicated and experienced gamer, but for me it took over two months of playing an hour a day to complete the game, so if you're not a full time gamer, the program should prove to be quite entertaining and quite a challenge, even at the Recruit level. At the rate I've been going it will be years before I can play at the Vetran level, so a great value for $59.

I Honestly Believe This Is The Best Game On The PS3

Well when I first got this game I went into it with high hopes and expectations due to the good things I had heard about the game. I simply was not in any way disappointed, the campaign mode and the online mode combine to make an excellent gaming experience.

The campaign mode although short, is nothing short of un-eventful. From start to finish the game is non-stop action and intensity, the AI seems to be spot on this year with the enemy recognising your fire and acting accordingly. The story itself is quite an intense and thrilling setting which seems to fit in perfectly with the current feel of todays conflict.

The online mode, now theres something to scream about, people will have you believe that peer to peer connections are a bad thing but I simply don't see the problem. Sure there are times when a host would simply end a game and admittedly it would become annoying, when you get into the gameplay however you simply come to forget about the lagging or problems that may appear on the rare occasions. The whole XP points in the gameplay that allow you to unlock extra weapons and perks are an extra initiative to have you enjoy the game further as you continuously play to complete your challenges and reach the next level. This rewards system would have some people complain as it is seen as unfair to the new players of the online game as they have a significant disadvantage. This I have to disagree with, if you're a new player to the game and there are a ton of people who have all the perks and all the best weapons this gives you a better learning curve as you become educated in how the game works and how to defeat those who have better guns than you.

This is genuinely an extremely good game and one that should be a part of every PS3 owners game collection.

Online Play Needs Improvements

The game is definitely cool and addictive, but it is increasingly frustrating. Online play is what is best in this game, but there are several problems that you come across after plaing awhile. The teams in multiplayer are way too frequently unmatched. I have a high rank, but I am so often put on teams that run into bullets nonstop so I can rarely win. Most of all, the invite friends tool needs to be fixed because it never works, and just messes up the game totally.

Great game but I suck

I played COD1-2 on PC and I had years of fun. So I went to Microcenter to buy COD4 but it's sold out. Since I bought my PS3 10 months ago but I owned just 3 games and I am not good playing with the controller; The salesguy convinced me to try this game on PS3. Well I thought, I will never be good if I don't give it time to practice. Then here I am ...
The practice session was a mess. I admit I am better with a mouse than with a controller. I took me a minute where the best time was 15 sec, the sergeant also called me trash.
I completed the first mission on the boat by dying 3 times on the easiest level. Wow, game play was smooth and graphic and sound fx was realistic on 37" LCD HDTV, better than playing on 20" monitor.
My wife was pissed of because she cannot watch her heroes tv show. Maybe I should buy another bigger tv.
Anyway I love this game and will spend a lot of time with it for the months to come. You will see me online soon when I am familiar with the controller.

Multiplayer Falls on Its Face

It should be a fun and addictive game. However, there are problems with the robot-like single player missions that plagued the earlier versions of COD.

The multiplayer should also be fun, but it becomes impossible to even log in to the game because there are severe server problems. The servers have been down now for over 24hours. When they are up, plan on much frustration as hosts that quit kill your ability to log into another game. The MP can also be buggy and can only be cleared by restarting the entire system. There are no hosts provided by Activision, Infinity Ward or the server provider who Infinity Ward likes to blame for its own online failures.

If you are like me and purchased this game for the online content (I prefer ROFM to this for a FPS single player game), then you will be severly disappointed. A game like Warhawk is more cartoonish, but at least you can log in and see active games hosted by the company that made the game. They also tell you when their servers are down and when they expect them online again.

Oh, and there is the open mic problem. There is no switch to key the mic when you want to speak. Therefore, you are treated to every imaginable background sound to include the sound effects from other people's systems. There is no way to turn it completely off or block the idiots or the occassional rapper who needs to incude you in his aspirations of the gangster high life.

I've finally replaced Halo3... It's well worth some hard earned green to spend days blowing #$@% up!

This game has very good graphics and very addictive if u play single or online. For $40, I think it is a good deal.
I think this game is as good and better than Resistance: Fall of Man game.

Favorite Console Game Ever

The single player is engaging, but the real fun is to be had in multiplayer. If you are only looking for a single player game, then I would look elsewhere. However, I have never played an online console game as engaging as COD4. It has shamefully affected my hours of sleep per night. It looks fantastic, plays with little to no lag, and is intense. I was never really a FPS fan until this game and now I can't stop.

FYI. I recently purchased a gigabit ethernet router, and it makes COD4 look a bit nicer and play a bit faster online. I am not a Sony fanboy, but if I had to choose between the Xbox and Sony versions of this game, I would choose Sony if you have a similar set up. The difference is clear in my personal opinion.

I've only played this a few times but the graphics, motion, interraction and game play are absolutely superb. If you like First Person Shooter(FPS) games, you have to get a copy of this game. You won't be let down.

Amazing game

This game has to be one of the best games out there right now. Graphics are amazingly crisp and smooth! Game play is great! A lot of people complain that the game is short taking approximately 5-6 hours to complete. Part of the reason for this is the frequent checkpoints so you don't waste 30 minutes and repeating everything. The character constantly regenerates health so you don't die so quickly compared with a lot of other games. You'll enjoy playing without all the frustrations.

Highly recommended.

Know that there is no co-operative play with this game.
