Call of Duty 4 Is Destined To Be A Classic!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

Call of Duty 4 is by far one of the best games to come out this year for any console or PC platform. The game is even better than any action movie that has come out to local movie theaters this year. The game is just slightly better than Halo 3 which up to this time was one of my favorite games to come out this year. Now my review is based on the single player portion of the game only.

There is no comparison between Call of Duty 4 and Medal of Honor: Airborne as far as which is a better game to play. Medal of Honor: Airborne has just six missions to play through and that's it. I am not making that up. Medal of Honor: Airborne takes place during World War II with American Airborne soldiers fighting the Axis throughout Europe during the war. The first four missions in Medal of Honor: Airborne are very realistic. The last two missions are like made up fantasy missions where you are fighting Super Nazi Soldiers that take forever to kill. Call of Duty 4 is a ten times better game to play than Medal of Honor: Airborne.

I could tell from the very first minute that I started to play Call of Duty 4 just how great a game it was going to be. The graphics in the game are just simply amazing. They are by far the best graphics I have ever seen in any game except for Crysis. Crysis is the game to beat as far as graphics go.

The very first mission in the game takes place on a Russian freighter out in the middle of the ocean where you play the role of a British soldier fighting Russian terrorists aboard ship at night in stormy weather. Just to look at the water come up against the ship is amazing. I just had to stop to look at the huge ocean waves hitting the sides of the ship. I couldn't believe how real the ocean waves look hitting the sides of the ship.

In another mission, I play the role of an American Marine fighting terrorists in the middle of a Middle Eastern city. My character, along with some fellow American Marine soldiers, are supporting an American tank going through the middle of this city. Well an enemy tank approachs us and the American tank you are supporting fires a round from the tank's main gun at the enemy tank. The enemy tank gets hit and explodes and the turret on the enemy tank flies off into the air. It was one best looking explosions I have ever seen in a game.

In another mission in Russia you are again playing the role of the British soldier. An enemy helicopter follows you around at night with a big searchlight trying to find you and some fellow British soldiers. Why you are trying to avoid being detected by the enemy helicopter, you get attacked by some enemy German Shepherd dogs that are the most realistic dogs I have ever seen in a game. The dogs look very real.

Call of Duty 4 reminds me a lot of what is going on today with the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan today. The game makes me proud of our American soldiers who are serving over in Iraq and Afghanistan today. You learn to appreciate more our men and women in uniform and all the sacifices they are making today for our freedoms. This game should definitely be added to your collection.

Fantastic Game for the PS3!

After reading the numerous positive online reviews for a week I decided to purchase this game for the PS3. Soon after arriving home from the store I wanted to test it out just for a few minutes and ended up playing it for almost three hours straight. I had to stop when the PS3 controller needed to be recharged.

It is seldom that a game grabs my attention so much but the level of graphical detail and realism in this game sets it apart as one of the better games I have played on any system. The amazingly realistic graphics and sound along with responsive and easy to learn controls make this game a winner. Once you have played the single player campaign for a while you will also appreciate the excellent online game action which is equally fast, fun and furious.

Since the PS3 system came out last year in 2006 I have been reading about how everyone is waiting for the new breed of console based video games that really show off the power of the next generation systems. Over the past year there have been a few phenomenal releases for the PS3 that have stood out like Resistance: Fall of Man and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. COD4: Modern Warfare is a game that will re-define gaming on the next generation consoles and at the time of this review it is one the best games if not the best game available for the PS3 console.

You need this game.

I love all types of games but the shear visuals and feeling this game provides in single and multi player go above and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. The weapons in the game are realistic in how they recoil and look. It is a kill or be killed type of game that requires you to think about every move you make and corner you turn.

The online multiplayer has more game options than I have ever seen in a game like this so the variety and replay will keep this game a major player in for a long time. The maps graphics a amazing sometimes it looks like you are watching a movie or the news. If you dont have it get it!!!

MP for the masses

You can get information on CoD4 anywhere, so I won't prattle on about the game's graphics/gameplay/etc. The multiplayer is phenomenal - it's the first game since Counterstrike that I feel like I could play for days, months, and years on end. You gain experience and unlock new features almost every match, so the motivation and reward system outclass any other shooter. This game is as great as everyone says it is.

The best Call of Duty ever? Yes, it maybe so. #1 game of '07!!!

I wasn't impressed by 'Call of Duty 3' and was getting tired of the same worn down WWII stories. When I saw the screen shots for Call of Duty 4 and found out it was to take place in modern times, I was sure this game would be good. I was wrong, it is AMAZING. The story, the graphics, and most important, the high level of game play and excitement is something I have not seen in any other first person shooter this year. Modern Warfare has blown me away and I suggest anyone who may have not liked Call of Duty in the past, to check this game out. Good work Infinity Ward for another great, solid shooter.

I had goose bumps in the middle of gameplay.

Mesmerizing. The controls are simply perfect with the exception of the SPRINT button which I'll get to later.

It is so well designed and intuitive. It gives you the widest range of choices I've ever seen difficulty wise. Are you a seasoned player? Choose an advanced level of difficulty and you'll love it. Are you a newbie to 1st person shooters? Choose the easiest setting and you'll love it. I have only played 2 first person shooters ever because if they are not very well executed controller and frame rate wise, I get headaches because of motion sickness. Halo 3 is one of them. This is the other one. If you;re a newbie to this genre like myself, you'll LOVE this game. They'll take you almost by the hand through the entire game with a special compass so you always know where you're supposed to go. And you can always follow you NPC teammates as well. This is the best shooter I've ever played. The graphic detail is just ridiculous. You really feel like it's happening in real life. Walking with all your senses alert, crouching a little, with a pack of marines raiding rooms, going out to little alleys, F14's roar over your head, the screen shakes, I've never had goose bumps while playing a game before. While you actually shoot. You're on the border of distraction from the actual game because everything looks just gorgeous.

Just one gripe: Deep into the game some missions become a little frustrating because you loose over and over again, and have to play the same part over and over again, which is not that bad because playing them is A LOT of fun but sometimes it may become a little annoying, specially since in the level it happened to me, it was because a simple design flaw: In order to sprint you need to maintain L3 pressed while moving and truth to be told, it's just not that practical and a little uncomfortable.

Great game. Needs to be twice as long.

I guess I'll add my two cents on this game though most has already been said. I just got this game about a week ago and let me just say that the difference between COD 3 and COD 4 is like the difference between 8 tracks and CD's. I love this game. Like many have said the campaign mode is way too short but is very good. The battles are intense and VERY immersing. You really feel enveloped in the battle. Bullets flying every which way, grenades, RPGs, attack dogs, shouts from your team mates, it's pure chaos and it's wonderful. I've found out one thing while playing this game, I would suck as a combat soldier. I'm not much for online combat so I can't comment on that part. What I really liked about playing this game was the frequent checkpoints. If you get killed you don't have to start way back like so many games. I'm very happy I bought this game.Great graphics and sound effects (my neighbor must really hate me now). Get it on sale if you can like i did, $60 is a lot for a game with such a short campaign mode. My only comment to any developers that might be reading this is; It's a Blu Ray disc for Pete's sake, USE IT !!! More maps please !!!

Great title, excellent play...replay not so much.

This is the latest, and in my opinion, the best in the Call of Duty series. Taking a shot at modern conflict this time rather than replaying old World War II fights. This game pulls no punches, the story is well defined and flows easily. The settings are realistic, though a bit repetitive (have I seen this barn before?).

What's Good:
-Graphics. This game is beautiful in 720p HD, crisp clear and sharp, just like you would expect from a third generation game console.
-Sound. The audio is incredible and more so in Surround. There are times, like during multiple explosions with jets flying over, where it seems to just mash together, but single sniper shots and running gunfights sound real enough to make you duck.
-Gameplay. There is an incredible variety of weapons to choose from. From the M4 SOPMOD to the G3, R700 sniper rifle and the AK-47u. The addition of claymores, flashbang grenades, and C-4 charges adds further dimension to the game. Nothing is as satisfying as hearing the distinct click of a claymore followed by the explosion and wild cries of the dying. The controls are intuitive, easy to learn and master as well as being straightforward (I hate games that use the R3 or L3 buttons for tasks that you do all the time, like ducking). The one downside is that you won't have access to some of the weapons unless you play multiplayer (the .50cal SNiper rifle for example) and some weapons appear rarely in the story mode (can we get some love for the P-90 please?).

What's Bad:
-Replay. Once you beat the game on any difficulty level you unlock arcade mode, which is fun, but is essentially the same game only with time limits and life limits. So you get maybe 2 replays through the game before it becomes repetitive. Its fun trying to get really high scores on Arcade mode, but after a while you learn where to go and what to do to take maximum advantage of the scenario. Sure there is some variety on the higher difficulty levels (like adding BMP's in some stages or additional troops/helicopters). This is truly a multiplayer game. If you are looking for something to play solo for a while, this game will probably bore you after a few hours.
-Story. Now this is a touchy issue. I'm in the military so I am not badmouthing the armed forces. The story is well written and defined, but it can also be interpreted as a bit slanted. Every arabic person you meet in the game is an enemy trying to stab you or shoot you. It would have been more realistic if they had added a few arab nationalists who were not bloodthirsty terrorists. As a soldier who has served in Iraq/Kuwait I would say that the view thrust forward in the game could be called politically incorrect. The majority of people in that region are peaceful, law abiding people who want to see an end to this as much as anyone.

Call of Duty 4...amazing

Simply amazing, call of duty 4 blows away its prior games and launches first person shooters into a whole new realm of realism. Ever action by the characters is realistic. The AI in this game is...well...to die for. Hardly was there a moment in which I noticed to characters "die" in the same fashion. Everything moved to seamlessly. There was hardly a moment my heart was not pounding. An incredible buy.

WOW! Great game!

This game is the best in the Call Of Duty series. Graphics are great and the online pay (only played on 360) is amazing! Story is kind of short but it is great from start to finish and with all of the online features it will keep my busy for some time to come. I've played the game for 20 hours and only had it for 3 days so that should tell you how great this game is. I love it and it is a must have if you like shooters.
