Guitar Hero 2 is quite possibly the greatest game in all the land. I had never had a PS2 but bought it immediatly after GH1 came out. After I beat GH1 I was all bummed because that was it. God answered my prayers for more and brought Guitar Hero II down upon us from the heavens. I opened it as soon as I got home the day I bought it, plugged it in, turned it on, and the amazingly super fantastic sound that blew out at me made me pee a little, not enough for anyone to notice, but I could feel it.
The Song list is great and the new hammer on's and pull off's really help with the sickening fast, mind numbing, face melting solos you will eventually have to conquer in this game.
I guess some of the cons would be that the graphics really haven't changed a lot. The new characters leave a lot to be desired, and umm.....er.....well that's it. Everything else about this game rocks.
5 out of 5 and then some!!!

I bought this game for my 14 teen daughter and 11 year old son as a joint gift for Christmas. Both of them love guitar and have always wanted to learn to play and both would love a real electric guitar, but with our busy schedules, finding time for my husband to teach them how to play was a challenge. We bought this game as a way for them to try out on their own what it might be like to play guitar. This game is extremely fun and very addicting! It turns out that it is probably one of the best family games we could have ever purchased! All of us enjoy challenging each other (though my son has us ALL beat) and having a fun time doing it. We all take turns playing and get a good laugh out of the mistakes we make at times. I highly recommend this for any family who is at all musically oriented! Very fun and has bridged the generation gap in our home with the songs my husband and I remember and love and the kids are now learning to appreciate!
An absolute blast!!!!

I am so adicted to this game. My 13 year old son convinced me to buy this for him. He actually paid for it with money that he earned working around the house. I almost feel like I owe him his money back because I have more play time than him. I like that it has several levels of difficulty (easy, medium, hard, expert). The practice mode is great to learn the patterns of difficult guitar solos. If you play in the career mode, you get to name your band and choose your difficulty level. The more songs you play, the more money you earn and different songs get added to your song list. You can buy new guitars, characters, outfits, videos, and additional songs. My husband is the only one that has had a hard time playing this game. He actually plays guitar and he says that he has a hard time following the patterns because he wants to strum and finger the notes as if he were playing the real song. Despite his difficulties, I would highly recommend this game. I definately have gotten my moneys worth. The kids actually tell me to get off the video game (imagine that).

I bought this for my 14 year old son and he loves it. He is into the music and said this has so much more then the original Guitar Hero. Also good for dexterity and not as frustrating and addictive as some of the adventure games on PS2. He can walk away from the game and pick right back up when he is ready. Not as obsessed with finishing a level....

I picked up the first Guitar Hero by coincidence, I absolutely fell in love and became instantly addicted with the gameplay. The second Guitar Hero improves on many things including gameplay difficulty and several new ways for multiplayer. It is more fast paced and a better challenge than the first. The only complaint, unfortunately, is the soundtrack. I do realize that the Red Octane team was trying to go for something a bit more different, but some of the songs are a one time thing. You play them just for the sheer fact that you have to beat them in order to unlock special bonus guitars. There are many great replayable songs, but even with the 50+ songs, the first Guitar Hero songs were more of a joy to play. Nonetheless, I recommend Guitar Hero 2 to anyone trying to find something new out there in the video game world to be addicted to and have tons of fun, and moreso to seasoned Guitar Hero players. Believe me, there's some songs that are a great frustrating challenge to try and beat in hard and expert modes. Definitely worth my money.

This is a good game. However, it is not suitable for children under 8-10, depending on the child. The product states that it is for 12yo. I would recommend this to those who are looking for something unique. This uniqueness is provided by the guitar controller which requires and develops hand eye cordination.

This game is more fun that we thought it would be. I bought it for my husband who has been playing guitar since he was a young child, and he really likes it. He said it's harder than playing a real guitar! The entire family takes turns playing in their own 'band' and its really fun to laugh when you miss the keys. I can't wait to get another guitar so we can play at the same time. Fun for the whole family!!
Great Sequel - Song List Lacks, Though

This is a great sequel to Guitar Hero I, although the song list lacks a bit, IMHO. One of the great new features is the ability to have a player play bass or rhythm guitar while another plays lead (simultaneously). You can also play against each other in a "face-off". There are some great old tunes on here (like KISS's "Strutter", Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son", and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird", to name a few), but for some reason it lacks some of the originality of the first game. Still, it is worth purchasing -- it is SO much fun to play. And if playing with another person, you really do get the feeling of actually "jamming" together. It's a blast! Highly recommended!

This was a Christmas gift for our family, and most of us are addicted. We have wasted countless hours with this thing, delighted with each other's stage heroics and having an absolute blast.
I won't waste your time describing the features since so many others have done so. There are three things I would like to comment on.
First, I can tell that someone's gonna break that picking switch, and soon. It takes varying degrees of abusive pounding depending on who is playing. It's a good thing they sell stand-alones.
Second, if you think this thing will teach you how to play a guitar, or that it simulates playing guitar, you will be very disappointed. I'm a guitarist, and I can assure you that the picking and playing patterns do not remotely resemble the real thing. That's really great news for non-musicians who want to pretend they are! It does take very good hand-eye coordination. That's an innovation over most games, which only require thumb-eye coordination.
Third, the song selection is weak...unless you're a metal-head. But for us classic-rockers there's not much to relish. I understand that Hero#1 had more songs up my alley, so I'll look for a used copy.
Overall, I heartily recommend this product.
