Picked up my Guitar Hero II yesterday and was very pleased to see it delivered all the qualities of the first game and beyond! The co-operative two player mode is a lot of fun, allowing two people to work together on a song. After weeks of struggling with medium mode songs on the first game, I found I'm flying through the easy songs on II with near perfection. Gotta love getting 100% score on "Shout At the Devil" the first time playing the new game.
If you love music, if you love Guitar Heros I, this is a game for you.

Basically the song is playing and different colored icons are coming towards you. As they cross a certain point you press the colored button on the guitar that matches the icon and press the button on the center of the guitar which plays the note.... this is the entire game. Characters were a bit cartoonish, could have a larger variety of concert locations. I also would have made the guitars a bit more decorative in the game, they look really plain.
Really good soundtrack, lots of great music! Guitar comes with some stickers to decorate it with.
BEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Up Side: If you're like me, you love rock music and the guitar. If you're really like me, you also can't play a real guitar worth a $#@!. Well, have no fear, for the collective minds at work for redoctane and sony have given us an alternative; Guitar Hero II. Within a couple of hours, you'll master shredding through power chord favorites like Shout At The Devil and Surrender, and with a little bit of practice, you'll be able to play all those technical heavy metal favorites, whammy bar and all! Fun is an understatement when it comes to Guitar Hero, which is why I hope this game becomes the "revolution" DDR never was!!
The Down Side: Here comes the obvious; The Playlist! Now, for someone like me who would play ANYTHING to feel like a rock god, GHII has a perfectly respectable set of music. BUT, for those with a bit more skill, a lack of modern day favorites could be downside. The absence of bands like Nickelback and Staind, ones that ruled the better part of the last 6 or 7 years in rock's mainstream, is tragic, and Fall Out Boy, how could they have forgotten Fall Out Boy!! Hopefully Guitar Hero III will include more modern rock favorites and less rock and roll classics. Oh, and redoctane, if you're reading this review >>BREAKING BENJAMIN<<.
The Conclusion: Guitar Hero II is perfect for those of us who want to shred, but don't have the ability to do so on a real guitar. Hell, I've even given this game to good guitar players, and they've had a blast with it, so almost anyone can enjoy GHII! At 80 bucks, it's a steal!
The End
Love It.

At first it is the only thing you will do then it is the second and eventually you are left feeling what the hell am I going to do with this ginormous ps2 controller. Then one day you friends come over and it is the best game to play so yes it is worth it, but not if you have a 360 becuase it is coming out for the 360 with a wireless controller in 2007.

Do not buy this game. It is a huge waste of money. Try real guitar or bass instead.
Good game, but....

The guitar controller that came with this game is a piece of junk. Right out of the package, the strum bar didn't work when strummed down. Only when strummed up. Needless to say, it's being returned. Not really worth the price, if you ask me.
Fun until it broke

The strum bar broke after a couple hours of use. Exchanged for a new guitar. We'll see how long the new one lasts.

i really tried to like this game. i did. but the fact that you are forced to play as a chef for the first few levels was something i could not get passed. also, there were no good songs!!! when will they add GOOD songs like "heart shaped box" or "girl you really got me now" or even "shout at the devil"!! no, they REFUSE to add such songs, and instead insist upon making you play along to such garbage as 50 cent, eminem, and fort minor. if you hate rap, stay far FAR away from this game!!! if you actually like rock music, play 50 cent:bulletproof.
