CoD4 Rocks!

I picked up this game from Target right after I finished playing the demo. That was at midnight during the week! That's how engrossing the game is. The game opens with a long cinematic and in that sequence the main character is driven through the streets of a city somewhere in Middle East. That was so so real! You should see it to believe it. My favorite SP episode is the 'Epilogue' where you are supposed to rescue a hostage on a flight.

I haven't played the multiplayer levels enough and that's why I gave a 4-star rating.

Stop wasting your play time reading this review, pick up the game now!

Well I was a little concerned this game would be to modern and get away from the great game play I have enjoyed with CoD & CoD2 I'm a 50 year old man who has been gaming since PONG from 1974 and Atari 1976 my son and I have enjoyed every generation of video game since nitindeo8 and sega genisis16 and this to me is one of the greatest FPS games I have ever played I highly recommend it.The first time I played I knew it was going to be a challenge when I went through the training and then the first mission on the frieghter when you have to jump for the heliocopter that's so real I couldn't stop playing I played all weekend with very few breaks
(the wife hates it when I get a new game)As far as system demands I was suprised it seems to have less demand the CoD2, excellent graphics loads right up just 1 DVD/CD. Oh yeah it has some great weapons, the C-135 gunship mission is one of my favorites.

good, with tanks would be better

ok, so maybe I was spoiled with tanks in Medal of Honour. I just love rolling along in a big metal can shooting enormous shells of explosives at all the little soldiers in my way. So now I want that in all WWII shooters.

That said, this game is more of the same, and a lot of fun because of it. I like the new challenges system, where more online experience gets you access to better weapons.

More diversity of multiplayer game types could be an improvement.

Don't buy this game for offline play - the offline single player story is visually beautiful but extremely short.

I have never played such an amazing game

This is without a doubt the best game I have every played. I have been playing computer games for almost 20 years now, and Call of Duty 4 is absolutely amazin - the graphics, the game play, the reality, the fun, everything! I have also shown this to a few friends of mine who were astonished as I was to see how good it really is. BUY IT!!!

Infinity Ward got it Right

I've been a fan of FPSes for years now, but the WWII genre is the only one I've enjoyed playing online. I've done the game server admin thing, run clan websites and played a LOT of both Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. CoD4:MW is well worth the price and its switch to modern day warfare does not disappoint, IMHO.

IW has definitely done almost everything right with this game. Especially when viewed alongside the game that really put this genre on the map: Medal of Honor. It's hard to review this installment without doing a comparison because almost everything that pushed MoH:Airborne into the bargain bin after only a few months was done completely differently in CoD4:MW, and the ongoing demand for the latter proves which was 'right'.

Single player is outstanding. The characters and running dialog are interesting and at times quite funny. Many nods to various films (esp. Aliens). I found the "ending" to be one of the most compelling since Outcast, from Infogrames. The user interface does what you tell it to do and there are very few (literally) nauseating moments where you try to move and the character doesn't, etc. Replay variability keeps interest up. The AI (both friend and foe) is certainly limited but not brain-dead by any means. On the higher levels the enemy will try to flank you and your teammates (while a tad bit unrealistically indestructible - especially as compared to you) will follow your lead most of the time.

Multiplayer is similarly well done. Even on servers with many players, I've found the action to be smooth and almost always fun. The ranking/challenge system makes things interesting, but is backed up by the fact that if you DON'T want to play ranked, you can simply find a server that doesn't use it. This is capped off by the release of mapping/modding tools which, again, were not released for MoH:Airborne (which, IMHO, is what led to its early demise). There are already hundreds of custom maps and mods available for MW, so if you get tired of one style of game play, you get more value by being able to find servers that offer something else.

I'm lamenting Electronic Arts' utter failure with MoH:PA and now MoH:Airborne, because it was the game that got me interested in online FPSes, but I'm very happy to see that IW has recognized what makes this genre tick.

Lots of Fun, except for arcade mode

Ona whole, this game is great. Graphics, sound, action etc is all top notch. However, my only beef is the single player mode.

The unlocked arcade version is timed and it takes the fun out of popping bad guys for points. Some levels (like death from above) don't even need to be timed, but they are. I have also completed levels with 30 seconds - 1 minute left, but the level isn't "over" until the characters finish their dialog, thus, I got pwned.

Again, my only complaint. Great game.

Very awesome

I was surprised how subtly reminiscent this game is of the older Call of Duty games - just something about the way it feels. Overall the gameplay is just great, with lots of fun weapons, upgrades, maps, and missions. The singleplayer missions are just intense and visceral and overall a blast except for a few frustratingly hard parts. Leveling up to unlock more of the sweet weapons, perks, and challenges in multiplayer is sweet; there are lots of great maps to play on, and the gameplay just hits that sweet spot of engaging fun.

If there was just one game I could recommend to a friend

This game is 5/5, pure and simple. I didn't like the previous Call of Duty games but they did good with this one. The control and movement of your character is smooth and the guns shoot and sound great. I'd say it's time to pack up 1.6 and pick up CoD4.

Awesome

The game is awesome, ordering it from Amazon makes no difference, but the game is awesome. even the opening cut-scene and cinematics are awesome.

The single player is great, action packed, but a little too short. But when you beat it on easy or regular, you can always play through to beat it on a harder level. Plus once you beat it, there's arcade mode: try to score the most amount of points on each level as possible.

The multi player online never gets old and the constant goal of getting your level up to 55, unlocking all the guns, attachments, and completing all the challenges keeps it very interesting. Plus, there are many mp modes to keep it interesting: team death-match, free for all, sabotage, domination, search and destroy, headquarters, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some others. All in all, its great.

Plus the graphics, voice acting, and presentation are top notch.

Overall, its a 9.8/10. That .2 is that I wish there were about 3 or 4 more single player missions.

This game is great!!!!

Excellent game, very strong multiplayer.

Great multiplayer. Worth it just for that. Surpasses Counterstrike, Battlefield, etc. Encompasses and surpasses all previous shooters I've played in terms of multiplayer. Great buy.
