I rented this game from BlockBuster back in 2001 after I got my PS2. I was not dissapointed like a few of my friends were. This game has great characters and levels. It starts out when Jak and Daxter got to Misty Island, a forbidden zone. Daxter falls into Dark Eco, A toxic fluid that is very hazardous to anyone. He pops back out transformed as a weasel like creature. They then return back To Samos, The Green Sage to try and change Daxter back. Samos cannot do anything about the problem. The only guy that can help lives far,far away. From there the two must go through dangerous worlds picking up precursor orbs and helping out the different villagers in the different areas to obtain power cells,The most sacred artifact in the game. As u can tell this a very great game. Go Get it
Great game

I don't have high expectation for this game when I bought it. I just want to have a game that my little niece can play in my PS2. You know GTA3 and Teggen are not really for little kid. After the first try I can't stop playing it. This game is so fun to play. You as Jak running around to found the power cells by solving little puzzles. Not much you can do to Dexter, but you better pay attention to what he said. The game play is great and the graphic is wonderful. And other reviewers are right, there is no load time, well almost no load time. It gives me a feeling that it is a fast pace 'Final Fantasy' game. I recommend this game to everyone from 6 to 36.
Will not dissappoint you

Let me start with the negative feedback:
This game will not win any originality awards! That's all for the cons, and believe me when I tell you I can normally find at least three things to complain about with every game I buy.
I am always cautious when a game is hyped so much, especially by a big name developer like Naughty Dog, but this game delivers on so many levels. The quests are often challenging to complete, though can be a bit repetitive at times. The voice acting is pretty darn good, and often laugh out loud funny. When you grab a power cell(one of the main objectives in the game)you are rewarded with some of Daxter's hilarious antics.
The levels are masterfully rendered and the views from elevated areas in the game can be described as just short of breathtaking. The gameplay is easy to learn and for the most part the animation is relatively fluid. Not a terribly long game but long enough to not make you feel like you wasted your hard earned money. It is family friendly but definitely not simplistic. Be prepared to be blown away by this game, you will not be disappointed.
Game of the Year!

In my opinion, Jak and Daxter is the best game of 2001. It's has amazing graphics and voice overs and great gameplay, even the music is great. This game, which was made by the creators of Crash Bandicoot, is like a buffed up version of Banjo Kazooie with different characters. It's hard to express how fun this game is, it has to be one of the top 20 maybe even top 10 games of all time in my mind. There are lots of little missions to beat and vechiles to get while you adventure with the main characters Jak and Daxter. Though its most like Banjo Kazooie, other games are similar to this like Zelda 64, Donkey Kong 64, Sonic Adventure, and Crash Bandicoot. If your a fan of any of those games you should defenitly check this out.
THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said, this game is the best I have ever played. When my brother got PS2 for X-mas, I was bummed because I loved N64, what we had before. But then I got this game and it became my favorite instsatly! Great graphics with a challenging format and new tasks to do everwhere you turn! Face evil monsters, collect powercells and most of all save the world! I've beten the game 3 times and now I'm going for it again! The only bad thing about it is if you try to beat it again it;s the same thing over and over. But hey, I'm not complainig! All I can say is BRING ON THE SEQUEL!...
and I don't even like platform games!

I'm an RPGer. Ever since Tomb Raider I have hated games in which the biggest puzzles are figuring out how far to jump, because then your sucess is usually determined by luck and how fast you can push buttons, not brains. But Jak and Daxter turned this thinking around for me. The plot was entertaining and flawless, not so complicated that it doesn't make sense but also not dull, used up and stupid by any means.
The overall controls are great. Freedom to go wherever you want, buttons work well, etc. I never had a problem running around in this game, and I was always thinking before my next step.
But what makes this game so special, so unique that it not only defines the boundaries of a platform but defines the boundaries of any game, is the perfect level of difficulty. It doesn't stick you for hours trying to kill a boss, rather it takes you a few times to get used to it and then all of the sudden, BOOM, you've got it down without getting so frustrated you could break you expensive PS2.
The only problem I had with Jak and Daxter was... IT WAS TOO SHORT!!!!!! I only mean that as I was having so much fun I didn't want it to end! I hope there will be a sequel, because this is a great game.
I just love this game!!!

Daxter is halarious-giving his full-fledged comments whenever he feels they're necessary-a few times I couldn't have done without him! The graphics are just splendid, sucking you into a fully playable 3-d world. The characters are really great-each with their own personality and all well made.
The story is also explained well, in a different kind of way-more like as they do something in the introduction, you understand as they go along-instead of them explaining everything in one setting, like Crash Bandicoot. (Like The Wrath of Cortex-which was good, but they're getting a little old after about 5 games-I'm terribly pleased they decided on something new!)
And no long loading sequences, like in Wrath of Cortex. (Those got really tedious after awhile.) Actually-not a single loading sequence-PERIOD!
And of course, Jak has the "I no talk" attribute of all Naughty Dog heroes-guess it's more manly to be mute-lol.
I play it whenever I can, and I love it all-the monsters are actually a little freaky too, unlike the totally un-scary ones on Crash, and With Jak & Daxters halaroius antics, (Especially Daxters dances when Jak gets Power Cells-love them!) it qualifys for fully-fledged quality entertainment.
So grab a seat, buckle in, and get ready for the greatest duo of the 21st century-
...
Great, deep, cool

Being 41 and a first time "platform" gamer -- I'm sure I'm not the norm here. However, I'm a convert to the world of jump and double-jump.
What a fun game! It rewards the thorough player with interesting puzzles and bonuses. Keeping your eyes open and looking around at the lush visuals pays off in both aesthetics and game play!
Controller usability is fantastic, without "Twister" grade multi button combos. Use of the right joystick for adjusting the view, allows for seamless, fluid play, even in tight spots.
At 96% of the game completed -- I've loved every minute. Replay appeal will be limited -- but I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.
To MUCH fun!!!

Jak and Daxter starts off pretty pointless, until Daxter falls into the Dark Eco (and takes a much needed bath ^_~). Suddenly transformed into an ottsel, Jak (the blonde guy) has to take along his friend and try to turn him back, and of course, they get caught up in saving the world. Probably the best thing about the game is Daxter's slapstick and game tips, i mean, "Hey...seagulls! Let's bust 'em for kicks!" is just a little hilarious. Then, there's:
Fisherman: ...no matter what I do, I can't seem to catch any fish...
Daxter: WHEW!! Maybe, its your breath!
who could forget Daxter's dances after you knab a Cell? I tend to get stuck with break-dancing and the robot...overall a great game, anyone, even my little sister can play it! Oh, don't forget Kaiera, the Green Sage's daughter who almost...nah, i won't spoil it, you should play it yourself!
But the rocks don't recall...

Excellent game for the PS2! It has comedy, challenge and (most of all) a good plot!
Jak And Daxter are pals, who disobeyed orders from the green sage not to go to Misty Island. On Misty Island, Daxter takes a swim in a pool of dark eco, and changes into a small furry animal that looks like a squirrel. The two pals ask the green sage for help, but the Green Sage doesn't know how to change Daxter back to his oringal form (and besides, its a BIG improvement for Daxter). Jak and Daxter's quest is to find the sage, who lives FAR to the north, who can change Daxter back to his annoying self.
Most of the talking is done by Daxter, Jak doesn't talk much. You control Jak, while Daxter rides on Jak's shoulder. Daxter gives you advice and hints as you walk through the game. The beginning levels are easy (as usual), but the game gets harder as you go.
