Awsome game!!!

I have played this at a friend's house and it ROCKS. I could play it for hours and I probably would if I had it. You can go to many different places to find precusor orbs and power cells. Jak doesn't talk at all but Daxter more than makes up for it. He is hilarious. He is full of insults and comments that will have you rolling in the floor laughing. This game has great grapics and awsome game play. I would totally recomend this game to someone. I am getting it for Christmas! Yes!!![...]

Ratchet and Clank much better

Jak and Daxter is one of the best platformers I have ever played. Yet, as with any true game, there are flaws which were rather annoying. The "secret ending" is incredibly hard to achieve, and once achieved, it promises to be ....worse, than expected. I'll leave it at that.

Levels are giant and filled with a variety of objectives. And when you possibly die, you dont get as frustrated as some games where you just run back to die again. Basically there are many ways to do the objectives. So, you would try another way.

Nothing in the game is too difficult, which was kind of bad. There isnt that much challenge, except for the last half hour of the game, pretty much. Boss battles are pretty much easy as the Eco vents appear and disappear when you are supposed to use them.

Overall, the game is one of my favorite platformers. But, Ratchet and Clank beats it anyday--for a longer game, tons of destructive weapons, and more challenge and secrets. My suggestion, rent this game and Ratchet and Clank, and see which one you like better.

Cool Game

Realistic worlds, many places to explore, tough challenges, and fun charecters! I loved this game! There was so much to do. My favorite games are adventure games, games with no exact path that you have to take, and this game was one of them. Daxter will make you laugh, and the other charecters pull emotions from you as well. I would recommend this game to anyone!

I haven't played Jak and Daxter 2, but if you liked Jak and Daxter, I would suggest trying it.

Some people just don't get it. Nobody is forcing you to play this game. If you don't like it, I couldn't care less. The thing is that "Jak and Daxter" is one of the best games I've ever played. The graphics are a milestone, the vocal performances are extremely high quality, the story is fluid and well thought-out, the gameplay is fun and interesting, with a careful balance of easy and hard, the characters and script are funny and entertaining, and the game at it's heart is a wonderful one.

"Jak and Daxter" and "Jak II" are both excellent and addictive, and I am eagerly awaiting the final installment in the trilogy, "Jak 3."

Good, but isn't this genre getting a little tired by now?

For the genre it's a well-done game. Graphics are great, there are some very nice little extras (auto-save is a nice feature), load times are non-existent. Controls are a little quirky but reasonable.

On the other hand, haven't we seen this game before? ...about a dozen times before? I haven't finished it yet (I just reached the last area) but I seriously feel like I just replayed Dark Cloud, Spyro, or Crash Bandicoot only without the depth and complexity. [Oh yeah, what's with this stupid little trend of "dance steps" when the character does something useful?]

You might say something like "But Dark Cloud and Spyro weren't particularly noted for their depth". Yep, that's right, we have a game here that's even less interesting than Ridge Racer 4, story-wise. They tossed in a few extras (the awful "zoomer", a boat that gets used once, a horrible "fishing" minigame) but there's just nothing here story-wise, or even in terms of the game play. Insipid is the word that comes to mind, actually. Enter area, wander aimlessly (and get killed 50,000 times) while looking for power orbs, repeat until done. (I have no firm idea how many lives I lost, but it's a lot...in the hundreds at least.)

The lack of a map, and not even a treasure detector of any sort, makes the game very frustrating to play at times. There's a list of power orbs, but the worded descriptions are useless. (Where's the "frozen crate"? In the freezer?) Looking for mystery hidden item number 399 seems like a major waste of time. I doubt I'll finish it; it's gone beyond boring.

I don't understand why they bothered with other characters in the game. Mostly they mutter useful things like "fascinating" or sit there dumbly when they get punched, as there's no interaction to speak of.

Spyro is light-years ahead here--at least the other characters serve some semi-useful purpose in the game instead of just being icons. There's a bit of a story, and when I finished the Spyro games I felt like I'd helped the characters out of a nasty situation. I seem to have forgotten why I'm supposed to be helping Jak and Daxter, or even that they have a problem.

Replay value? None, zero, zip. Not unless you're into finding *all* the power orbs and eggs (oh, sorry, "precursor artifacts").

Jak and Daxter is a terrific game. I held on to my money until this title made the "Greatest Hits" collection. Even then, I left it in the shrink wrap for a month. Once I got hooked on it, it has easily become one of my favorite PS2 titles.

For starters, the graphics are really "stunning." That isn't the usual stunning claim that boils down to squint and imagine. It's stunning that delivers a feeling of emersion. I think the secret here is the cartoon styled world. Simpler bitmaps means more attention to other details - like making a borderless world. The main characters are able to jump a few "mile high" vertical jumps that prove this point. You get a birds eye view of the world and it looks incredible.

The game is admittedly simple. There are a few platform routines that require dexterity or a lot of patience. But generally, it's a balanced game without too much frustration. It certainly has enough going on to hold the interest of a parent or a child.

It also does a good job of elaborating on the same theme and style without necessarily copying it. If you've played Dark Cloud, then you know exactly how badly this can be done. That is, in Dark Cloud, the difference between level a and level b is the color of the sword. Fortunately, Jak and Daxter is the posterchild for keeping it lively. It's not the most extensive game, but you get a lot of quality for what's there.

Great game. If you like the genre, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

AN AWESOME GAME!

This game went beyond my expectations for it. I expected it to be a cheezy game with awful graphics and poor gameplay, but it leaped over that view. I played about 10 minutes of it at a friends house and I LOVED IT! Jak is my idea of a quiet hero. The fact that he never or rarely talks give him a kind of quiet power. Daxter is just hysterical and gives the game some comic relief. I am hoping that I get this game for X-mas.
