The battle mode feature in Mario Kart was always my favorite aspect of the game. I am not very satisfied with the complexity of the stages in the battle mode feature in double dash. There is no where to hide to surprise other players. I can only hope that there will be battle boards that can be unlocked. On the positive side, the addition of 3 different battle scenarios is nice. I like the 2 players per Kart feature. This is nice and simple for very young players who want to play but haven't yet developed the motor skills/dexterity required to play this game. The race tracks are superb as are the graphics. The weapons from the original Mario Kart are still available in addition to "special" new weapons. You can also select your kart as well as unlock additional karts.
The best racing game ever!!!

Mario Kart is back with all new features ready to rock your Nintendo Gamecube. There are 2,756 character and vehicle combinations. Now you can choose not one, but two characters to pair up on a kart. You can pair up whoever you want, so how about pairing Mario with arch-rival Bowser? And there's much more! Do all kinds of cool techniques such as drifting and powersliding. Ram your opponents with all kinds of items such as lightning. You can also change the driver and passenger position by pressing the Z button, so if you have an item that you want to save, have the driver hold it to protect it. Also every character has a special item they can obtain. For example, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi can throw out a chomp to smash into other enemies while you get dragged passed everyone else. Baby Bowser and Bowser can throw an oversized Bowser shell. Choose from many different courses. It gets even better in multiplayer. You can play either vs. or co-op. In co-op, you and another player choose a character and hit the road. You can do better powersliding in co-op and can even pass items to each other by pressing the X or Y button at the same time. The driver can also pass items to the passenger by pressing the X or Y button. You can even steal items from people in co-op! It's easier to steal items in co-op than it it in single player. If you choose vs. mode, you can play Grand Prix, Versus, or Battle. In battle, you can play balloon battle, shine theif, or bob-omb blast. There's still more! You can set up a LAN (Local Area Network) to connect 2 different Gamecubes to each other for a maximum of 8 players. For more imformation on setting up a LAN or if you're looking for every secret in the game, e-mail me at BSC608@aol.com. If you don't have this game, what are you waiting for? Get it! You'll love it!

The idea of two players managing one Kart is very original, but, like all the previous Mario Kart games, there are only 12 tracks. I'm not sure if there are bonus tracks like in Super Mario Kart for the GBA, but if so I certainly hope they're not as cheaply done. Don't get me wrong, this game is extremely fun, and the Battle Mode is a blast, but it's also a rather limited game in the amount of tracks.
There are new items, new racers, and new karts to be unlocked, and of course the three levels of difficulty (50cc, 100cc and 150cc) but the game is still relatively easy. The funnest part is trying to master some of the shortcuts, which can prove to be slightly difficult. After a bit of practice, though, it loses its challenge unless you are racing against another human player.
The characters are very funny though, and it's fun to watch their antics as they race. The tracks, while there are few of them, are extremely varied and eye pleasing. I would give this game 5 stars, except for the lack of tracks and it being a bit too easy for the experienced gamer. Most of this is all based on personal preference and ability, though, so this game might be the perfect buy for you. I would suggest renting it or borrowing it from a friend before you decide to buy it.

Ok let me explain my point of view yes the racing tracks are laided out perfectly.....yes the new addition of characters is excellent.....the special items you can use as a team is superb....i was expecting some new items to slow down people on the track but the usual. And I find the degree of difficulty very hard on 150 cc i mean really hard. The part i really dont like that they change was the different kart selection i always loved how the way the character you picked had certain advantages and disadvantages for example....toad would be the fastest player....but with the new kart selection...the only advantage you have is if your bigger than the kart you slam into and if your a light kart...boy your in trouble with losing items when you get slammed into.
16 courses
20 characters Mario,Luigi,Donkey Kong,Diddy Kong,Daisy,Peach,Paratroopa,Koopa,Baby Mario,Baby Luigi,Yoshi,Birdo,Bowser Jr.,Bowser,Waluigi,Wario(the following need to be unlocked King Boo,Petey Piranha,Toad and Toadette
I love the new point system they have created in the places following is the points you will recieve:
1st place:10
2nd place:8
3rd place:6
4th place:4
5th place:3
6th place:2
7th place:1
8th place:0
Battle Mode has changed a bit there is still the balloon battle but newly added is shine thief and bom-omb blast. 4 stages to choose from in battle mode if you unlock the rest there are 6.
Graphics:10(amazing graphics)
Control:8 (a little bit confusing at first with making turns)
Sound:9 (music that will keep ya happy :))
Fun Factor:10 (unlimited fun if you with your frients via internet or in battle mode)
A bit overrated...

The new Mario Kart was definitely aimed for a younger audience. First, there is the "kiddish" music. While previous musical tracks from Mario Kart got you into the competition, this game's music makes the game seem more like Baby Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Second, the simplistic and limited number of race tracks. There are only 16 tracks (after unlocking Special Cup), and after a while of racing all of them, they get kind of boring. The tracks are simple, and there are not very many hidden shortcuts to discover, which would make the replay value of these race tracks increase. Because of the gamecube and Nintendo's capabilities, one would expect a bit more complicated and funner tracks. Even the Special Cup tracks were a bit disappointing. The N64 Special Cup tracks were fun and difficult, but they simplified all the tracks in this game for the younger audience.
Third, the graphics. The graphics are very colorful and vibrant and make the tracks and the game in general look very fun. The characters all look great, and overall, Nintendo did a good job of making this game very flamboyant.
Fourth, the battle arenas. The battle arenas (along with the tracks) are also very simplistic (especially the Gamecube arena...). There isn't really anywhere to hide (a fun thing about the N64 version) or any great stand-out features of any of the arenas. The arenas were made very simple so that the younger audience would be able to emerse themselves in a quick, all-out battle royale against their fellow peers.
Fifth, the battle modes. There are a few battle modes to choose from (including the classic balloon match), but the most annoying mode is the bob-bomb match. In the bob-bomb match, what happens is the match starts, bombs fly everywhere, and in about 10-15 seconds, its over. The person who wins usually wins out of sheer luck. Not much skill is involved to win, just luck. The same goes with the Shine-Thief battle. You just have to hope that your opponent doesn't get any red shells.
Sixth, the computer A.I. In 50cc, and 100cc (easy and normal, respectively), the computer players are too easy. Another valid specification of MK:DD!! for the younger audience. This audience wants to be able to feel good about themselves when they win the cups and not get frustrated and throw their controllers across the room when they don't. But, as for 150cc (EXTRA EXTREMELY HARD), the A.I. makes a quantum leap and becomes extra difficult. In order to win, you need sheer luck with what items you get, because it seems that every single computer opponent is out to get you. Only certain characters can achieve 1st or 2nd place with less difficulty as well as certain karts, so the player must choose wisely. 150cc was probably Nintendo's way of compensation for the more mature audience that is looking for more of a challenge.
And lastly, the innovative two-characters-per-kart system. What a good way to promote teamwork! This style of playing is very fun, and features a break from the normal one-person-per-kart limit. This would definitely catch the attention of the younger (as well as the older) audience. But one thing I discovered, though, is that this tends to aggrevate the teammates, as they tend to 'scapegoat' one another when one of them messes up and costs them the 1st place spot.
Overall: This game is all right, but I think the younger audience would enjoy it more than the mature audience. This game would be a great party game, but don't count on it to provide hours and hours of entertainment (it took me two days to unlock everything). But don't hesitate to buy it for the little ones.
They're all the same too me!!!

I've pre-ordered this game since August. I waited for three months to play this game. The moment i tried it On November 25, 2003, i fell in love with it. I've played with Super Mario Kart (SNES) and Mario Kart: Super Ciruit(GBA) but not Mario Kart 64(N64) but i do have experience with the series. I have to say, this game is tougher than its predecessors. Especially the 150cc. You know the usual four cups, Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, and Special Cup. However there is one extra cup, The All Tour Cup. You could only unlock it if you win 1st place in the 150cc in the Special Cup, a pretty complicated task. I'm still training myself so i hope to beat the Special sometime soon. The graphics in this game were great. It was kinda real. the karts are different, this time you have two people racing in one kart. The person in the front takes care of the driving while the person in the back takes care of the items. You could switch both characters via the z button. You could also pair the characters in any which way you want. Just for fun, you could even pair Mario with archnemesis Bowser (very ironic) and Bowser Jr. with Luigi (weird). there are also other unlockables, bu i don't wanna spoil the surprise. The tracks were very cool and i could tell that alot of time and effort was put into this game. hope you enjoy it like i am. Also check out these upcoming games for the GBA and the GCN. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life(GCN), Mario Tennis(GCN), Sonic Heroes(GCN), Dragon Ball Z: Saiyan Smash(GCN, scheduled to come out on September 30, 2004).

Mario Kart has always been one of my favorite games, from Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, now is available on the Gamecube. Compared to the other past games, Double Dash is packed with more games to play, more characters, new race levels, of all which lead to making this game a great multiplayer game.
The Characters:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Daisy
Yoshi
Birdo
Baby Mario
Baby Luigi
Koopa
Paratroopa
Donky Kong
Diddy Kong
Bowser
Bowser Jr.
Wario
Warluigi
(not to mention, there are hidden characters as well)
Stages, Levels, etc.
Single Player: Grand Prix, Time Trials
2 Players: Player 1 vs. Player 2: Grand Prix, Versus, or Battle; Co-Op: Player 1 and Player 2: Grand Prix.
3 Players: Player 1 vs. Player 2: Grand Prix, or Battle; Co-Op: Player 1 and Player 2 vs. Player 3: Grand Prix, Versus, or Battle.
4 Players: Player 1 vs. Player 2 vs. Player 3 vs. Player 4: Versus or battle; Player 1 and Payer 2 vs. Player 3 and Player 4: Grand Prix, Versus, or Battle; Player 1 and Player 2 vs. Player 3 vs. Player 4: Versus or Battle
Battle Mode:
Types of Battle modes
Ballon Battle: the original balloon battle found on all the other Mario kart games. This one is fun with new stages.
Shine Thief: This game has one big star, the goal is to have a player capture the star and have it with them until the time limit expires. In order to get the star from one player, one must attack the player.
Bob-Omb Blast: This game is basically bombing the other payer until their points are gone. Only time in this stage are the Bom-ombs. Once a player is hit, they lose one point, but if that player attack the other play they get their point back. This game seems very redundant and very hard to win, unless your playing against someone who has no idea what they are doing.
Versus: you have a choice of competing in 50CC, 100CC, 150CC.
(there is a bonus that you can unlock, known as Special)
This is the one where players just race each other within one selected stage.
Grand Prix: choices to compete in are 50CC, 100CC, 150CC.
(There us a bonus that you can unclock, which is the Special stage)
This is the one where you compete with other players, as well as the computers, and you go stage by stage, determined by places (1st, 2nd, or 3rd).
Co-Op: two players are assigned to one kart. Either player drives the kart and maneuvers the stages and the other payer is the attacker-throwing items or attacking (with L1 or L2).
Con: in this game, the players are unable to jump and dodge objects, which can be done in past games. And some good items are only available to certain characters.
Pro: This game, either playing one or whatever amount of players, you are required to choose from two characters. Each character has their own characteristics, just like in past games. The new change in this game is that you are now required to choose your kart. Just mix and match, and you would find the most compatible kart for your players. This is key.
1-4 players
Memory Card: uses 3-8 blocks
Broadband
Rated E: Mild Cartoon Violence
Mario Kart Double-Dash has evolved from the SNES and N64 versions. The graphics are extremely nice. The game runs smoothly without a feel of choppiness. I highly recommend this game to everyone. It is a great game for parties and get togethers. Overall Mario Kart is a great game. The game will get boring if you play it as a single player, but all you have to do to bring life into this game is to bring a couple of friends over, and there you go. Great game, Great game play, and great graphics.
