I actually liked N64's version better, but this one I like too.

Too simple to be fun.

I just recently played double dash and I found that it had a lot of good points and new ideas added in. On the other hand the few bad points from the old versions were made even worse. Mario Kart has always been a game where the person behind always had a decent chance of coming back from behind so you were never totally safe in first place. In DD(double dash) the game is now ridiculous in this area. I found you stand a better chance not being in first until the very end of the races. They nerfed sliding, which used to be something that could give an experienced player an edge. Now all you have to do is hold down R and I found very few turns where you could effectively use the boost from it. The two racers per kart is cool but I know my jaw didn't drop to the floor. Multiplayer is ok if you just want the balloon mode and consider the other two modes as extra. The one thing that killed the multiplayer and racing mode for me was the painfully simple level design. The brand new block fort level now has no extra levels to drive on. It is just a big square with 4 other squares inside it to drive around. The "gamecube" arena, which replaces the skyscraper arena from the 64 version is now just a circle. You can't fall off at all. The bottom line is that while the 64 version was fun for all ages, DD will only be fun if you are 12 or younger. It is gameplay not graphics that make the game, so dig out your N64 and you will have much more fun than this dissappointment of a sequel.

The concept of racing games always grabs the attention of everyone, even those who have never played on a game console. Mario Kart Double Dash (MKDD) not only grabs you, but also hooks you with its ingenous racetracks, colorful and funny karts and their favorite trademark characters.

This game is one of the few to take advantage of the broadband adapter (sold separately). The broadband setup allows up to 8 players to play simultaneously using 8 separate TVs and consoles (requires an 8-port hub with patch cables), or 8 players on 2 TVs(4 players per TV) using 2 consoles (requires only a cross over cable to connect the 2 consoles). These kind of setups are fantastic for a LAN party or even a MKDD tournament.

Racing in this game is now a cooperative effort, there's the driver and the thrower on the same kart. Characters are classified as light(e.g. Baby Luigi), medium (e.g. Yoshi) or heavy(e.g. Bowser). There are also three (3) corresponding kart types. Any combination of driver/thrower is possible but they can ride only on a kart as big as the heaviest character in the pair. Light karts accelerate fast, but are weak when colliding against heavier karts, and they don't have great top speeds. Heavy karts accelerate slowly, but they are strong and have the highest top speeds. This character/kart combination allows the player to experiment and find the best pair for him/her.

The main event is the grand prix competition. In this event you race against human and/or computer opponents trying to reach the goal first not only with speed but by using your wits. Special items such as banana peels or green shells, among others, are scattered all over the tracks for you to pick up. Each item gives you a strategic advantage that if used wisely can make a difference at the end of the race.

Apart from the grand prix competition there are also other race modes such as time trials (to measure how fast you finish a track), versus (race against human players only) and battle, which also has its own variations. These game modes combined with multiplayer capabilities makes this game entertaining for a long period.

How many character are there to choose? Well, there are 16, but who knows if there is some kind of code to unlock others.

How many karts? There are 8, but you unlock others as you start winning grand prix tournaments.

If you want clean, fun entertainment for the whole family then this one is a winner.

This is way better than the previous three. The graphics are a lot better and there's more characters (20). There are also better courses,(there are 16) and you can choose beetween different karts, (there are 21) each being light, medium, or heavy. Also in this game there are two racers in a kart, one in the front and one in the back, the one in the front driving and the one in the back throwing items. The two new Battle games in Battel mode are Bomb-omb Blast and Shine Thief. And of course, Nintendo didn't leave out the old Balloon Blast. In Bomb-omb Blast, the object is to throw bombs at your opponents. In Shine Thief, you have to keep the Shine thing for a long time, and you lose it if your opponents hit you with an item. Battle courses are the only let-downs. They are very short and not at all like the fun ones in Mario Kart 64. This game is fun and enjoyable for any age.

if you have this game, and a broadband adapter, go to www.warppipe.com. You can actually play it online with this program that some college students started, and it is really fun. I personally have played 7 players with someone across the city i live in. Go for it, this game is a must if you already have the online adapter too.

I owned Mario Cart 64 for the Nitendo 64 but this game far surpases it. Tha ability to play with another person is great if you want to play with someone instead of aginst them. Also this game has unlockable characters and corses. Also the addition of new battles gives a you evean more options for fun. So overall this game is FUN FUN FUN for 1 -8 players alone or on teams!!!!!

Doesn't Add Much

This game is cute, and the graphics are awesome, but it doesn't really add much. Mario Kart 64 is better overall, even if it doesn't look as good.

Double Dash allows you to have two characters in the kart, yes, but that doesn't really make much difference. In Mario Kart 64, you could throw items at the other racers; in Double Dash, the character in the back of the kart throws the items. Big deal.

There is a two-player mode that allows one player to drive while the other throws things. It's pretty pointless -- throwing the items is not only boring when it's the only thing you have to do, but it's also very disorienting to look at the screen and see the kart moving when you're not controlling it.

Double Dash has 16 characters, while 64 had only eight; but since the eight additional characters have the same abilities the original eight had (i.e., Peach and Daisy both have the same abilities and are basically just different-colored versions of the same character), it's really not much of an advantage.

On the whole, you'll be getting a more entertaining game if you buy a used copy of "Mario Kart 64."

This game rocks. some people might think that its the same as n64 mario kart but its not. The battle mode rocks. The two ppl and new karts and switching rocks. Some people might also think switching isnt important but it helps a lot in battlemode and using items in battle and normal. All in all i think this deserves a 4.5 out of 5 but they didnt have that on the list thingy. Great game... for a gamer that likes new versions of classic games i would say this is almost a must buy.
