Battlefront's 1 & 2 are two of our most heavily played PS2 games. I would even have to credit the first one for enlightening my son on the whole Star Wars universe and just how cool it could all be. Both games let you step into battle with the "grunts" who never seemed to get enough screen time in the movies for my liking. And where else can you be engaged in face-to-face combat with blasters, then jump into an X-Wing and join a dog fight?
Not to mention the fact that the games offer single player, splitscreen co-op, and on-line options. I have become so frustrated with the current trend towards single player/on-line only!!!! Did everyone suddenly start purchasing a separate game system for each member of the family so they can play on-line together?
Therefore all the more reason for a third installment using the next generation systems. Battlefront 3 on the PS3 system would have amazing possiblities. Imagine all the best features from the first two versions combined with near photo-real graphics, multiple maps for all planets, more planets, swappable weapons... How about including some of the ships we have yet to see in a Battlefront game like B-Wings or the Falcon or the numerous TIE encarnations? Is it possible to create downloads for skins on a PS3 or X-Box 360 game? If so how about new paint jobs, uniforms and armor?
If they aren't working on this, they really should be.

This game was very fun. You can play as Yoda and Obi-wan and pretty much every important Jedi in the game as well as Han Solo and Princess Leia and even more. The campaign mode is challenging and Galactic Conquest (You take over the world one planet at a time) is very fun. The addition of awards to the game makes you want to play longer for the award. Characters you can play as like The Bothan Spy and Imperial Officer add different troops to the game. You can also fight in space which has many strategic choices. You can attack their Capital ships with a Bomber or you can take A republic Gunship and land in their enemies capital ships. The only downside is that after a while it gets tiring to play.
A definite improvement

Although I enjoyed the first game, there were many flaws which Battlefront II has fixed. Coupled with a good storyline and well implemented campaign feature, it makes for an awesome game. The instant action offers a wide variety of maps and gameplay modes to keep you entertained for hours, as well as offering a "Galactic Conquest" mode which is very enjoyable, offering high replayability.
This game has definitely improved the AI (of the enemy team more than your allies, it seems), offers a much larger selection of units and implements a fairly interesting reward system. In addition, they have re-balanced vehicles and have fixed the extremely crippled ships from the first game. There are even entire space battles.
Sadly, it's not all good news. There are still some things that need to be worked on. In splitscreen mode (and indeed even in the single player game), it is extremely difficult to see. Every time I kill someone in splitscreen, I have to check whether or not I gained or lost points in order to tell what team I just shot. Even the red markers don't help much when you're in enclosed maps that tend to be fairly dark. Also, the range of weapons is still fairly limited and unbalanced, leading to classes that are far more powerful. In fact, the sniper has been rendered virtually useless. All one needs to do is wander around with a shotgun, mowing down enemies in one hit.
Despite all of this, it is still an extremely enjoyable game with a high replayability value. I highly recommend it.
great price, great game, great story.

First off I would like to say that this game has plenty of modes to play: space, jedi, conquest, story, and galactic conquest, to name a few. I feel that the maker took a daring decision by putting you in the place of a regular trooper rather than a jedi. You do occasionally get to play as a jedi, but I would say that it is a good balance. I get bored easily, but I find that I can keep coming back to this game. I sincerely hope that this review helped you decide.
Great game!

I bought Star Wars Battlefront II for my son who is 7. He never reads the instructions that come with any video games, he learns as he goes. In a couple of days he had this one down. He loves it - and has told me this several times! We limit his time on this game, otherwise he would probably play it all day. The graphics are pretty neat and the game is a lot of fun to play. If our son doesn't behave or do his chores, we do not allow him to play this game for a day or two - and that is really hard on him!!! In that way, it's a good discipline tool for parents!
5 stars, must-have for SW fans

There aren't a lot of PS2 games I constantly go back to playing, but I can't seem to get enough of this one. All the levels are interesting, the controls are great, and it's easy to give a controller to a friend and teach them how to run and shoot.
Ever wanted to drive an AT-AT? Done. Shoot from a Star Destroyer? OK.
The only drawback is the space levels - the linear method to win these battles against the CPU without ever destroying another starfighter or capital ship is kinda boring, but the flight mechanics are tough to master.
5/5 - if you like SW, you need to have this game.
