This is a review for those who like Medal of Honor more than CounterStrike or Battlefield 1942. Superficially the Call of Duty single-player game is just like MOHAA and Spearhead. In fact superficially it is sometimes virtually identical - remember the snowy forest, the V2 rocket, shooting from the back of a truck, or the Russian march into Berlin. Of course the same people who made those games made this one, but I was surprised at how much was just a copy of the same levels in Medal of Honor. But the single-player is worse because the levels are even more linear and scripted, the sound is much poorer, and your teammates are useless.
Call of Duty multiplayer is nothing like Medal of Honor. The gameplay, weapons, shooting and physics are more of a copy of CounterStrike. In fact, it felt exactly like playing CounterStrike to me, which is why I don't like it as much as Medal of Honor. You get poor sounds, poor control of grenades and all your weapons, especially with no cross-hair. Everyone looks identical except for a blue or green splatch of color, you respawn right in the middle of enemies who can kill you instantly, etc. Call of Duty multiplayer felt like a beta version of a game, there are so many features left out.
If you didn't like Medal of Honor multiplayer, then save your money and get Halflife and download the CounterStrike mod.
Maybe the next version of Call of Duty will finally be better than Medal of Honor, but only for the single-play game.

This is a great game. Ten times better than "Medal of Honor." Great sound and graphics. Please people, if you are going to review this game PLAY THE WHOLE THING! You can't just review a game if you have only played one or two levels. YOU HAVE TO GO OUT AND BUY IT THEN PLAY THE WHOLE THING! I don't care about how good the demo was, crud! SO PLAY THE WHOLE THING! Thank you.....
Anyway, this game is very fun. If it freezes every time you play this game, then go to forums and find out what is wrong. It did this to me, so I had to install a new driver. It hasn't frozen yet.
Overall I give this game a 5/5.
P.S. Don't buy "Medal of Honor."
Lots of fun but limited

I'm a Big Operation Flashpoint fan. MOH and certainly BF1942 were of no interest to me. Call Of Duty (COD) is different.
The graphics, sounds and battlefield ambience are simply amazing. Your team's and the enemy's AI behavior and movements are most of the time impressive, yet occasionally outright dumb. This could be the fact that the current demo does not do justice to the finished product, due out in 2 months.
Because the terrain is narrow and there's so much action that is scripted, there will be a limited amount of replay value in the 24 or so single player missions due out. There are only so many ways to play a mission through The dynamics are very limited.
I played the demo on veteran level. I was disappointed in having health-packs all over the place. Very unrealistic. I installed a user modification that removed the health-packs and the in-game HUD. That made things a bit better.
I hope there will be a better health/dammage model when the game comes out. As in OFP, I would like to see injuries to the hands, face, legs, etc., when the player or an AI is shot. Furthermore, the player should have less accurate aim if wounded and potentially lose the ability to crouch or stand up, if hit badly in the lower body.
I hear there won't be any coop multiplayer game support and that's a pity if it's true. Still, COD should be fun in MP, assuming you avoid the cheaters.
Is it anywhere near as good as OFP? Naw! OFP's got large terrains, much more dynamic missions, tons of vehicles, soldiers and other addons to choose from and a lot more realism.
Nevertheless, this looks good. Less intensive, maybe, but still lots of atmosphere and action and the effects are to die for. I'll be buying it.
Not worth the money

First of all my expectations of this game were high because i was under the impression that it was going to be exponentionally better than the moh series. It unfortunately was not, the graphics were no better and the game play was roughly the same. The whole "move as a squad" theme did not impress me as all it seemed to be was a method of spoon feeding you the mission. They would tell you to help up front or run this way or shoot that way like most other games would. Of course you stayed with your guys because they were an extra hand, an extra gun, in the fight and its better to fight in numbers but still they didnt exactly preform outflanking maneuvers or assisted me in taking down rooms and such as could have been. However, the ai for your squad was tweeked better than seemed in most games, they were not the blundering fools that tossed grenades a few feet and then wiped out half your team in the prosses. I will give the makers of COD one thing, the sound was beyond reproach. The cinematic feel that the scores of music gave the game was amazing. And the sound of the bullets and the mg42's gave the game a nice touch.
Now onto gameplay, I have not tried the multiplayer yet but the singleplayer is lacking. I bought the game yesterday, started it late last night and finished it just this evening. Mind you that i am a college student and i did have classes today, meals, a life, etc. so i didnt devote the whole day to the game. Which brings me to my final thought, i am a college student and money is pretty tight to say the least so 50 bucks for a game that lasted a few hours just isnt worth it.
Intense Unparalleled Immersive Game

This game deserves every Kudo thrown in its direction. I'm not a huge fan of the whole WWII First Person Shooter genre, but this is one of the finest games ever produced. COD is incredibly immersive. You start out by going through basic training where you get to learn the different weapons that you will be using, how to crouch, crawl, lob grenades, etc. Right after this, you are immediately thrown into the middle of the action. You are the "pathfinder" or scout for your squad as you prepare to land on Normandy in 1941. I wanted to really test my Audigy soundcard, so I cranked the sound way up and could almost feel the mortar shells as they fell all around me. The anti aircraft batteries were deafening. The ground just ahead of me was pock marked with machine gun fire. The graphics are also top notch. The AI of your teammates is pretty damn good. They will give you cover fire and tell you when to get a move on. Even in single player you never feel like you are alone. This is a team based game. You will not get very far by adopting a cowboy attitude or, you will die, and die often. This game is so good that it made me want to pause it and devour any and all information on the European theatre of operations during the Great War. When was the last time that a game brought history to life and made you want to learn? I cannot recommend COD enough. Be sure to take frequent breaks as the action is pretty intense.

Increidble visionaries decide to program another game and bless us with it. I want to buy this game. THe attention to detail is admirable. The ability for players to drop weapons, lean around, go prone, et cetera, is exactly what this genre needs more of. a realistic shooter.

Keep your head down soldier, or you'll get it taken off...this is one of those games that are so immersive you'll find yourself playing in the dark w/the volume up and LOVING it....the most realistic WWII FPS hands down. Most times you will have your squad with you so you wont be alone...but at other times you'll see them get cut down one by one as the lead flies so thick you will be looking for a place to hide and crying for your mama.

Is this 10 times better than MOH? No, actually, it's quite similar but with better graphics and sound. Great fun to play, as was MOH. I appreciate the attempt to get real but I have to admit that Wolfenstein was better with more interesting things going on and a lot of variety. This game is over very quickly. It feels like an expansion pack. I also don't feel very comfortable with skipping around from American, English and Russian. I guess it is an attempt to sell everywhere, but I prefer to stick with a character. I like the increased squad level combat. All in all a great game but too short. I hope the inevitable expansion pack (how many missions would that be?) comes out soon.
Best WWII Game ever.

What an amazing game. I thought the WWII gaming genre was getting a bit old, with new games streaming out of publishers every month, it seemed. But wow, what a breath of fresh air Call of Duty was.
The game is beautiful, intense (the most intense WWII game ever), and loads of fun. The Multiplayer is worth playing too; gunning down fellow friends online is always a blast. Having already won many well-deserved Game of the Year awards, this game truly rocks. This is a must-by for FPS fans who like the World War II genre. Happy huntin'!
