I bought Call of Duty recently. A friend suggested, with CoD 2 and 3 out, why bother with CoD 1? Well I figured I would give it a try to know if I liked the series before going on to the more expensive versions. I was not disappointed. It is a great game, and although I'm sure the newer games have better graphics and stuff, this game does not feel outmoded at all. I only missed the chance of playing as German in the single-player campaign, but this game is all about the Allies. Excellent anyway.
Great Game

First action game I have played in years and I must say it is great. Still playing it. Very realistic, moving story line and background music makes you feel like you are part of a movie. The graphics are excellent and very fast moving. I appreciate the fact that there is not a whole lot of grusome blood and body parts. The focus is on action, but also technique. Best game I have played in my lifetime so far.

A very exciting one level demo that came as a freebie has got me totally hooked. The level sees you completing multiple, clearly outlined objectives as you hold a small town from Nazi onslaught. The atmosphere created by the graphics, voice acting and sound effects is very tense, and you can get blown away VERY quickly unless you become proficient with the many evasive tactics like peering round walls to fire off a few rounds, or lobbing a grenade over a wall when you see the Nazis jump over it. Some parts of the game seem scripted, for example, as soon as you walk past an invisible line, a tank will hove into view, but these often mean you can take stock, re-load, change weapons and take up the best position for the next attack.
One of the best things is the 'shell-shock' effect when a grenade goes off or a tank fires near you. For a few moments, the screen blurs, your pulse pounds in your ears and everything slows down. Then, with the whee-crack of a bullet pounding the wall near you, you're back to real time and scrambling for cover. Outstanding. I'll definitely be buying the full version.

Yes. This is the ultimate fps. A lot of people will say Half Life or Half Life 2 is, but I'm standing by this. This one is more realistic. It is a World War II fps, not an alien filled romp that is fun. Anywho, in this game you play through three campaigns: American, British, and finally Russian. You are a soldier in one of those three squads and attempt to successfully complete whatever mission you were assigned. This game focuses on the heroes of the war being a group of "nobodies" not just one big hero.
The graphics may be a little dated, but they still get the job done very nicely. You unfortunately do not get to drive any vehicles, though on two different missions you are in a moving vehicle being chased by enemies and have to take 'em out.
The gameplay is exceptional and by far the best in any FPS I have ever played. I am not joking. This is once very intense game and is by no means a "run and gun" ala Quake or Doom. If you decide to go out guna a blazin' you may get a bullet popped right in the head. You have to be careful, move slow if need be and watch out, depending on what type of gun you have. You may want to lay prone for a while in order to assess the situation. Though there are times when you will have to run out firing.
The online play is even better. I have not played every mode that is offered but there are some exciting ones like Behind Enemy Lines and Headquarters. The old Deathmatch is fun as well. But my personal fav is Team Deathmatch. The gameplay is just as exciting, and even more unpredictable because you are playing against real people. And if you still have a dial up modem like me, do not worry, with the exception of a few times, I run very great at pretty good ping times. It is still very much fun.
Personal Highlights:
1. Holding the bridge as the brits
2. The car battle
3. Going into Stalingrad without a weapon. If you turn and run, the Russian's open fire on their own men.
This is the first game where I really took a lot of screenshots at really cool things that happened or I did. If you like FPS games weather they are run and gun or strategic you should get this. And if you are a WWII buff then you should get this as well. It is well worth your money.
An awesome gaming experience!

You will not be dissapointed in this game! This is a game that will really get you involved in the storyline and will make you think about WWII and the troops that were there. I found interesting similarities to various war films I've seen, most notably to 'Enemy at the Gates' (as mentioned in a previous review) and 'A Bridge Too Far'.
It's nice to have a game that seems to have a bit more purpose than just shooting everything that moves... That's not to say this isn't a violent game- We're talking about war here after all, but I really felt a new understanding on WWII when it was all said and done (especially after the intro to the Russian levels!!!)
I really don't think you'll be disappointed in this game.
Best WWII Game Ever!

I have never played a more intense and exciting game in my life. The single player spans four different campaigns, each of which is more exciting than the previous one. However multiplayer stinks. This would make it receive a four star rating, but since the single player mode makes up for it, I gave it a five. Get this game!

This is probably the best game of all time, and I am not over-exaggerating. You see, Call of Duty is one of those games you just look at and say "What a great game," which it rightfully deserves. Here are some pros and cons.
Pros: From the whistle of the artillery to the clanking mechanism of the bolt-action, Call of Duty delivers a realistic experience that no one can forget, and leaves the Medal of Honors to shame. Not only that, but the game is long and fun, I have spent many hours just playing a level over and over, because it is so good. Not to mention that, but Call of Duty looks real good, too. It doesn't compare to games such as Half-Life 2 or Halo 2, but the graphics work out well. Glitches are few and far between the game. Some people say that the game seems scripted, which it is, but it is very hard to notice, and only a few things are scripted, most are toally random such as the death of your fellow soldiers. Multiplayer is a blast too, I believe it is even better than Battlefield 1942. You fight on foot more often, and no real side has the advantage.
Cons: Online there is no real filter, so people can swear as much as they want. Cheaters online are occasional, but are caught quickly. The only really complaint I have about the game is that certain weapons are a little on-sided such as the Thompson or PPsh. They both shoot fast and relatively accurately, so they rip apart the enemy. This is corrected however in the patches. Single-player has no real flaws, but I recommend playing Veteran difficuly if you want the best experience possible.
Overall, this is the best war game of all time. I extremely recommend you buy it.
Truly Amazing...

This game is simply amazing. It is worth all 50 bucks and deserves all 5 stars. This new franchise, CoD, will contribute greatly to the WW2 genre and could possible be the best FPS ever made?!?!?!
Pros:
Gameplay: Intense and fast, there is so much action going on, you really can't pay attention to anything else other than that Nazi in front of you and your objective. Lagless...other than the Stalingrad level (just the beach part) this game delivers NO LAG whatsoever. Heck! I wouldn't be surprised if an old Windows 98 could run this thing smoothly. Glitchless..I have completed the game and have found almost no glitches.
Multiplayer: With large maps and quick action, the Multiplayer gameplay is probably the best I have seen ever since Day of Defeat and Counter-Strike. Also, the KillCam was probably the smartest improvement...which makes it a lot easier to get rid of Aimbot users, Wallhack Users, and Campers.
Graphics:The animation and graphics in CoD are amazing and utterly impressive. Call of Duty very much shows that the Quake III engine still has game. And I really love that shellshock effect as well..Very Nice.
Cons:
Hmm..Wow Only one Con..not much here.
Sound: If I wasn't comparing, sound would be listed in the Pros, because it is still very nice EarCandy. But since I want to be evil...I will compare. Let's face it. CoD may have beaten out MoH in everything else, but one thing. MoH's sound is so luscious and perfect..while CoD's is not. It is pretty good..but they could've done much better.
Hopes: Sound is improved....that's about it...
Conclusion: Well, What are you waiting for! Go buy Call of Duty NOW!

This game is beautiful for what it is: a deeply immersive, single-player focused, interactive WW2 movie that is gorgeous to look at.
Considering this game has been out for close to a year now, I would not recommend to players with top of the line systems that prefer multi-player over single. For that class, I'd recommend looking into more contemporary First Person Shooters like Battlefield 1942 (despite it's age, the mod-community is more vibrant and certain mods like "Desert Combat" push the envelope of todays newer technology) or the "latest greatest" in single player PC games..."Far Cry". Those two games (in my humble opinion) offer the best in the First Person Shooter class of games available today.
But then again, you could wait for Doom 3 or Half Life 2. Of course both of those have been "coming soon" for a year now...
However, for those of you that enjoy single-player WW2 games, this is a must have. I completed the game in just 8 hours, but what a heart pounding and thoroughly enjoyable time that was. Like I said earlier, the graphics are (still) amazing, the lighting and particle effects (a tweaked Quake 3 engine) are excellent, the storyline is best of class, and the AI (ally and enemy) are superb.
Hope this was helpful.
