Another review, another game played and beat... what a way to spend a series of nights off. Silent Hill 3 was a sad tragic tale in the long story of Silent Hill. I didn't like this game and to be honest here's why...
First off this is the third game that bares the name Silent Hill and after the story and experience of Silent Hill 2, I was expecting something better... even remotely better... I didn't get it needless to say.
As for the graphics and sound and yadda-yadda, yeah they are great and as to be expected from a PSX 2 game title. The problem for me comes in the form of losing that "Disturbed" feeling... which is what Silent Hill really clings to. The feeling of horror from seeing such disturbed images and what-not.
In Silent Hill 3 you play as a teenage girl... so we all know now that the directors of the game are going to focus on the stupid teenage lust craze thing going on in the world today. Sadly this is evident in the game as you sometimes find yourself wondering what the heck a teenage girl such as this is doing in such a situation. Hey been there done that... but the loss comes in lack of story driven potential as Silent Hill 2 had.
In the end I would recommend skipping this title over for something that truly delivers original content and exciting gameplay. I hate to say it but I was suckered into false hope of a better Silent Hill 4... that is for another time.

Man, the screenshots of this game look creepy. Too bad it doesn't look like anything relatively new. I mean, I'm giving this thing three stars, but I might be horribly off and it may deserve five stars, or only one. My point is, and I know this will fall on deaf ears, but why do people give things they've only seen pictures of a perfect score? YOU'VE NEVER EVEN PLAYED IT! HOW CAN YOU JUDGE IT?

I loved Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4, I didn't mind Silent Hill at all either but this one just seems like Konami was trying to get male fans and give them something they want - an ugly chick in a miniskirt going around in a dark grousome atmosphere and find it 'sexy'. I disliked this one for this reason. The gameplay I didn't enjoy either. So this one was out of me. I own the game and prefer the other 3, this one was the crappiest of the lot. Don't bother with it.

I gave it one star because all silent hill games that came out before deserved one star, and people are giving this game a good hype before it even comes out. (like they did with part 2, which was extremely boring by the way)

After the terroizing original Silent Hill, two years later, it's sequel spawned to the fabulous PS2. The graphics were true-to-life as promised, locations were new, and a completly new plot. Silent Hill 2 made a deep dive into the guilty mind. THe scare factor wasn't as high as the first.
Two years later, Konami released Silent Hill 3. The plot was a rehash from the original, a more better suited sequel than Silent Hill 2. The satanic cult is back. It's now 17 years after the original (Where did James come in at?) and Heather Mason is sitting at the mall. She is automatically swept into a nightmare.
No...Heather isn't in Silent Hill, which makes it akward because the worm was in the Silent Hill mall. I usually thought that grating under the floors and bleeding walls were only in Silent Hill. We never really see Harry Mason's face, Cybill is completly left out of the plot, since she did survive and escaped with Harry on the original Silent Hill.
The plot is confusing enough, not to metion the same locales as Silent Hill 2. The Hospital is back (and is very different from the alternate hospital on Silent Hill 2) The nightclub is back, too. The Konami team went for the lazy approach with this one. Heather isn't a worthy heroine to the series and the team could have easily brought Harry, James, or Maria back for Christsakes! And where's Pyramid Head?! He could have came back at least! Silent Hill 2 still remains the best of the series but not the scariest, Silent Hill is in dead heat with it's sequel, while Silent Hill 3 is by far the worst of the series. Three stars for effort.

I am a huge fam of this genre. I liked SH3 but I first off have to admit that SH2 doesn't really fit into the entire storyline, it should have been a prequal to SH1. None the less I enjoyed them all. I did think that SH3 was a little on the short side. The graphics will blow anyone away.

SH3 is about a 17 yr old girl named Heather who was shopping at a mall. She is being followed by a strange man who says he is a detective, so she ducks into a bathroom. Upon escaping into the mall she was shopping in earlier, she also stumbles upon Silent Hill. I have not yet finished this game because it is so scary. It is very fun and hard. You meet characters like Douglas and Claudia. Claudia is the daughter of Dahlia (from SH1). I recommend this game to anyone who can take it.
Stray from original formula but good enough to be called SH

First of all let me say that I am more than 21 years old, so I am not someone who shouldn't be writing this review in the first place. The term "Mature" doesn't just imply not being easily scared, but also being able to understand certain concepts. The world is sometimes difficult to understand even for adults, in case children ever wonder about that. The game is for adults, period.
This game is better than Silent Hill 2, which seemed too short. For those who are looking to face evil and be just as scared as in SH 1, forget it. There has not been a Silent Hill like SH 1 yet. The graphics are about the same as in SH 2, which is good but not enough to make up for the game's shortcomings. Enemy placement often contributes very little to make the game frightening. The radio's volume needs to be at maximum to give the proper anxiety level. It is too low by default, so by the time you realize it's a little late. I couldn't hear the voice actors well enough either, as there is no option to adjust their volume. This makes the sound effect too loud and the actors' voices too quiet. The map is not as good as before. The ink is pink, instead of blood red. Some of the markings are difficult to discern even with full zoom. A few parts of the game actually play like zombie-less Resident Evil, a very faded Silent Hill experience. It seems like getting the game over with is more important than the next scare. The actors do a good job. My only problem is the common lip sync errors. I first noticed a good size of lip sync errors in FF-X2, which was a first since FFX had done so well in voice acting.
For some reason Silent Hill 3 is just not as scary as the first one. I hope it wasn't because people who shouldn't be playing it were too scared! I heard SH 2 was made much less scary from what it was intended to be. This probably happened with SH 3 too. I simply feel like I'm not getting a Silent Hill game.
Silent Hill 3 is better than the second one but not as good as the original. It does however have enough quality to make it a good game. Enjoy!
