I do not admire those gamers who knock Showdown Legends Of Wrestling. For one you got to look at a number of factors. Firstly, Acclaim have modelled a number of deceased and past superstars and as they have since grown old, put on weight or are indeed dead, Acclaim have done very well in modelling these superstars. Also this is nothing compared to previous LOW games, where the arenas were something of an embarressment and the superstars resembled cartoon characters, this time around the wrestlers are more refined and the venues have provided the most impressive I've ever seen. I shall therfore list the advantages and disadvantages of this game to allow you to decide.
1) Enhanced control system - gone is the WWE Attitude style control system when you had to press three buttons in a certain order to perform a suplex. Now, similarly to the Smackdown games, any directional button with circle or triangle will perform a variety of manoeuvres.
2) Alternate costumes and entrance music. Now you can play as each legend from some point in his career i.e. from Hogan's wrestling days in the 1970's to Hogan's Red and Yellow era during his return to WWE. I was particularly impressed with the fact that each superstar has on average 3 entrance themes to further symbolise a different period in that superstars career.
3)Arenas - some of the included arenas comprise the greatest and largest venues in Wrestling history. Of course it would be entirely impossible to scale such venues as the Silverdome and Skydome in exact detail, but in my opinion they have done a very good job at simulating the ring side atmosphere. However, I am a little confused as to some of the screenshots released for this game depicting different rope colours.
4) 8 men in the ring at once - sure it slows down the pace of gameplay, but its considered one feature that hasn't been seen in a wrestling game since Smackdown JBI and it is definitely welcome.
Disadvantages
1) Despite the entrance moves of superstars in this game providing impressive, the winning moves are yet another matter. Like previous games, they just repeat their taunts over and over again. It looks completely ridiculous to see a superstar clime for the gold in a ladder match and miraculously appear on the canvas below. I guess some of these superstars move at light speed don't they.
2)Hogan's entrance - I noticed in Hogan's entrance with his second attire, his moves kept toggling between having his t-shirt on and off, representing some of the inconsistancies in the game.
3)Limited weapon use - a hardcore match is pointless with only 8 weapons with limited use at your disposal. It soon turns into a basic falls count anywhere match.
4) Tag Matches - Incredibly difficult to tag your partner in and your character sometimes stalls as you struggle for 10 seconds to get off the apron and inside the ring.
However, if you're a die hard wrestling fan in need of a game with recognisable talent on it (lets face it, is the SD vs Raw roster worth the effort) then Showdown LOW is the game for you.

I've been waiting for this game for a long time. Finally, we get Sting, The Ultimate Warrior, and the Road Warriors in one game! There are some definite improvements over the last two installments of this series. For one, the characters like Sting with long hair finally have moving hair. We start out with all wrestlers free, and you have the chance to replay some of the classic wrestling matches of all time. The wrestler choices are great here too, though I don't see how a few of them made it into the "Legends" category. Also, the physics make more sense. You can just grab up a huge wrestler like Big John Studd or Abdullah the Butcher and slam them like they weigh nothing. Trying will only backfire on your wrestler and hurt him. That makes it a bit more interesting. You still have the "Create a Legend" feature too, so you can make anyone that's left out from you dream team.
Now the problem: the game freezes and jerks a LOT. Playing Battle Royale will give you a lot of moments of frozen wrestlers and jerking action. It's a huge distraction when you're fighting for your life and another new wrestler comes in only to freeze up the screen for a few seconds. I don't know if there's anything they could do about that, but I wish they could have fixed it before they shipped it.
All in all, this is the best installment of the series. I don't know if they plan on doing another one, but if not, they've ended on a high note (if you can get beyond the freeze-framing).

This marks the 3rd installment from acclaim on classic wrestling. Its a fun game but misses the mark of say a Smackdown. The graphics are good. Each wrestler looks like his real life self of the time. The move are pretty basic. THe problem with the game play is it tends to be a bit slow and sluggish. Also the story lines are more of events from the past so you dont have real title matches per say. Also if you win the belt you are never seen wearing it. A good effort and will be loved by classic wwrestling fans. However more time and effort could have gone in to making this equal to the smackdown series.

I've been playing wrestling games since 1988's WWF Wrestlemania for NES and I've played damn near every game since then for all consoles. I know my wrestling games and this one sucks. Although this game has some improvments over the former legends of wrestling games, it's still way short on moves. Only three Strikes per player! Thats right only three strikes per player...1 2 3!!! Forget about doing an irish whip into the ropes because the person being whipped can get out of it everytime by press square and I mean everytime, attacking from outside the ring, forget that too because it never works. Last time I checked the year was 2004 going on 2005 ..and Akklaim is releasing crap like this? Sad but true. The roster is the only reason I bought this game and its the only reason I gave it two stars. The rosters is awesome!
I don't care what others say, I like this game!

Okay so this game isn't as good as the Smackdown games that come out once a year, but this game is still a worthy investment. I wouldn't call this a pro-wwf game although many of the names that are on here were big name star for that company. Here are my pros and cons with this game
Pros:
- Roster (you can't really go wrong with 73 names from the past and for some still the present).
- You can pick what costume you what the wrestler to come out in.
- matches (tourament matches with just a basic or special match like hardcore, first blood, cage match or ladder in single or tag teams). Also, I like the fact that you can have a 4 corners tag match and survivor series style of match (I've always loved those).
- don't have to unlock anybody as all 73 guys are available for you to play. Of course with the season mode, maybe they should've made you do things to make this game season mode more interesting.
cons:
- gameplay is a bit sluggish and some is unrealistic
example: I don't recall Andre ever giving someone the Razor's edge (Scott Hall's finisher) or Greg Valentine doing a stone cold stunner.
- season is a bit disappointing as you only wrestle a 5 matches for each decade and even at the hardest gameplay level, it is not too competitive.
- The game tends to freeze up at times which I think they should corrected before shipping out the game.
Bottom Line: If you love old school wrestling like I do, this is the game for you as it will take you back. If you want the ulimate gameplay, then just buy WWE related products as they are more superior in this area. Recommended.
it was okay but not great.

I did not play the other legends of wreslting games but always wanted to. Once I found out that Sting and the Ultimate Warrior were in the game I just had to get it. Before I even heard of the New Legends Of Wresling Game I was playing Smackdown Here Comes The Pain (HCTP) non-stop, so after playing smackdown this game had no shot when comes to graphics. For example I played a exbition match with The King Jerry Lawyer and Mr. Perfect and both of them where just HUGE. The game is really slow compared to Smackdown HCTP. The wrestlers entrances are good becasue they are similar to their orginal entrances. Sadly the wreslters entrance music is no where near the original but some are, for example the MAcho Man's classic "oh Yeah" entrance. I love this game because of the legends it has but to be the ultimate wrestling game it needs these things.
1. Better game play
2. All the legends (Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, HHH, Mick Foley, The Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Yokozuna, Honky Tonk Man, Chris Benoit, Arn Anderson, The Bush Wackers, Demolition, Y2J, Vader, etc.,)and even Women (scary cherrie, miss elizabeth, sable, chyna, sunny, woman, etc,)
3. Orginal theme Music for each costume selection. For example Sting in white black attire come out in his dark music, Red and Black Sting come out in the Wolf pac theme music, and Old School Sing in his orginal sting music. This should be done for each wrestler.
4. Historic match types such as the bolier room brawl, hell in the cell, I quit match, back lot brawl, falls count anywhere, TLC match, and the Elimination Chamber.
Overall this game does not come close to Smackdwon HCTP but the legends in this game make it all worth it. Buy this game if you are a long time wreslting fan.
tallal man .this game ROCKS!

Yes, the game is not perfect, but the huge roster of wrestlers (73) is very impressive, especially since it includes a lot of guys you won't see in a WWE game. Granted, there are some omissions, mostly due to those wrestlers still being employed by Vince McMahon (Ric Flair, Sean Michaels, and others), but a lot of those guys can be created with the "create a legend" option. If you put the right names together using the "pick from the list" for first and last names, the announcers will still say those names. And certain moves, such as Austin's Stone Cold Stunner are there (in the case of the Stunner, it's called the Stinger), certain clothing options are there (like Austin's vest, RVD's clothes, or Kane's old red-and-black outfit), so you can get around the WWE-copyrighted problem rather easily. "Freebird" is also one of the nicknames for those of you who remember those boys from "Badstreet, Atlanta, G.A."
There are tons of moves to pick from, so the wrestlers can be made to do different moves, and again, the huge number of wrestlers that are there is extremely impressive. But there are glitches. Yes, it's very annoying when you get up from the mat and are not facing your opponent. But those glitches are minor.
I like having a wrestling video game that is unrelated to the WWE, since I hate what McMahon has done to the industry. I grew up with Gordon Solie and the Georgia Championship Wrestling-controlled World Championship Wrestling program (prior to WCW breaking off from the NWA as its own company), so I probably enjoy this title more than those who grew up on the 90s and later WWF/WWE.
Finally, since I'm a little greedy, I wish the game would have also included the Midnight Express, Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin, the Valiant Brothers, Johnny Valentine, Magnum T.A., and all of the members of the original Four Horsemen -- Ole Anderson, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and (even though he's with the WWE now) the greatest wrestler ever, the Nature Boy Ric Flair.
But even without his presence, this game gets a big Wooooooooo!!!
Fun, but mostly for the gimmick!

I love the gimmick... but I don't love the execution.
Showdown is not as bad as the previous Legends of Wrestling games, but it still rates way below the standards set for graphics and gameplay by the WWE Smackdown series. Big negative first impression when I immediately entered the Create-A-Wrestler mode and could barely pull off a halfway decent looking Ric Flair. Bad news for a game called "Legends" of wrestling. The running commentary is pretty annoying too in this game. Great to hear Bobby the Brain and Tony Shiavone trading quips about Hacksaw Jim Duggan... but WHY ARE THEY DOING IT IN A MATCH BETWEEN RANDY SAVAGE AND STING? Annoying. The controls are frustrating as well... but I think after some time (and some more viewings of the Brett Hart Tutorials) that problem will go away.
Buy this if, like me, you just need to kill time before Raw vs. Smackdown" is released.

First of all, this game is great, but will someone PLEASE tell me how to unlock the secret superstars, Ronnie Garvin, Brutus Beefcake, Michael & David Von Erich, and Butch Reed, I've struggled for HOURS trying to figure out how to unlock them. Thanks!
