Best game ever: Showdown Legends of wrestling

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 4

This game is the best game ever in history. No doubt this is the only game that will feature 70 wrestlers from the 70's 80's and the 90's. From hulk hogan to the best there is, bret the hitman hart. The game features good controls, good sounds and good gameplay. Alot of classic match are in this game. Ladder, cage, tables, every other match u can think of these day that they don't have. This game is the best. Buy it *****

Fun, but mostly for the gimmick!

I love the gimmick... but I don't love the execution.

Showdown is not as bad as the previous Legends of Wrestling games, but it still rates way below the standards set for graphics and gameplay by the WWE Smackdown series. Big negative first impression when I immediately entered the Create-A-Wrestler mode and could barely pull off a halfway decent looking Ric Flair. Bad news for a game called "Legends" of wrestling. The running commentary is pretty annoying too in this game. Great to hear Bobby the Brain and Tony Shiavone trading quips about Hacksaw Jim Duggan... but WHY ARE THEY DOING IT IN A MATCH BETWEEN RANDY SAVAGE AND STING? Annoying. The controls are frustrating as well... but I think after some time (and some more viewings of the Brett Hart Tutorials) that problem will go away.

Buy this if, like me, you just need to kill time before Raw vs. Smackdown" is released.

Best of the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to hand it to Acclaim as they have outdid themselves for this particular title. It is definitely the best of the series. The game controls are great and the game is easy to learn. Also they have so many different matchs. You also do not have to unlock other arenas and wrestlers as they are readily available. My only gripe is the commentating is repetitive, but I'm still giving it 5 stars as Acclaim has finally learned their lesson in making a wrestling game right.

Big Names that pack a waek punch

This game is full of some of the greatest wrestlers of all time. I was looking forward to its realease for some time. It of course is missing a few of the biggest names(like Ric Flair) but that is the least of this games problems. The game is not challenging on any level of difficulty and the career mode just plain sucks. This game is worth buying only if you love the old school names and there look but if you are looking for a game fun to play for the long term this is not the game for you.

Finally a wrestling game that packs the best of everything

I love this game. It features the best wrestlers of all time and makes me nostalgic for the great afternoons watching wrestling with my family. I enjoy all the great fighters with amazing graphics and great stadiums. And, for me the game play and controls were top notch and I had a great time playing with all my favorites of all time. This game is fantastic in almost every way.

Great wrestlers, jerky action

I've been waiting for this game for a long time. Finally, we get Sting, The Ultimate Warrior, and the Road Warriors in one game! There are some definite improvements over the last two installments of this series. For one, the characters like Sting with long hair finally have moving hair. We start out with all wrestlers free, and you have the chance to replay some of the classic wrestling matches of all time. The wrestler choices are great here too, though I don't see how a few of them made it into the "Legends" category. Also, the physics make more sense. You can just grab up a huge wrestler like Big John Studd or Abdullah the Butcher and slam them like they weigh nothing. Trying will only backfire on your wrestler and hurt him. That makes it a bit more interesting. You still have the "Create a Legend" feature too, so you can make anyone that's left out from you dream team.

Now the problem: the game freezes and jerks a LOT. Playing Battle Royale will give you a lot of moments of frozen wrestlers and jerking action. It's a huge distraction when you're fighting for your life and another new wrestler comes in only to freeze up the screen for a few seconds. I don't know if there's anything they could do about that, but I wish they could have fixed it before they shipped it.

All in all, this is the best installment of the series. I don't know if they plan on doing another one, but if not, they've ended on a high note (if you can get beyond the freeze-framing).

Heading in the right direction

The choice of wrestlers here is simply amazing. That's the real hook of this game. I always wanted to play something like this when I was a kid. It's fun to have the option of having the Dynamite Kid wrestle Andre the Giant, and so on...

Unfortunately, as with almost all wrestling games, the controls are going to give you carpel-tunnel syndrome. Button-mashing and sloppy controls make it frustrating. If a game such as this could finally incorporate good conrols, we'd really have something.

Replay value is a little iffy. As ususal, you go through the same routine of using the same moves over and over to get the pin. The storyline mode in this is a good idea (you travel through the decades and wrestle the best of those eras.)

As far as variety of matches is concerned, they have outdone themselves. Choice of wrestlers is superb. If we could just get some kind of great stroyline mode combined with ease of wrestler control, well, here's hoping anyway.

This one makes a great rental.

it was okay but not great.

I did not play the other legends of wreslting games but always wanted to. Once I found out that Sting and the Ultimate Warrior were in the game I just had to get it. Before I even heard of the New Legends Of Wresling Game I was playing Smackdown Here Comes The Pain (HCTP) non-stop, so after playing smackdown this game had no shot when comes to graphics. For example I played a exbition match with The King Jerry Lawyer and Mr. Perfect and both of them where just HUGE. The game is really slow compared to Smackdown HCTP. The wrestlers entrances are good becasue they are similar to their orginal entrances. Sadly the wreslters entrance music is no where near the original but some are, for example the MAcho Man's classic "oh Yeah" entrance. I love this game because of the legends it has but to be the ultimate wrestling game it needs these things.
1. Better game play
2. All the legends (Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, HHH, Mick Foley, The Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Yokozuna, Honky Tonk Man, Chris Benoit, Arn Anderson, The Bush Wackers, Demolition, Y2J, Vader, etc.,)and even Women (scary cherrie, miss elizabeth, sable, chyna, sunny, woman, etc,)
3. Orginal theme Music for each costume selection. For example Sting in white black attire come out in his dark music, Red and Black Sting come out in the Wolf pac theme music, and Old School Sing in his orginal sting music. This should be done for each wrestler.
4. Historic match types such as the bolier room brawl, hell in the cell, I quit match, back lot brawl, falls count anywhere, TLC match, and the Elimination Chamber.

Overall this game does not come close to Smackdwon HCTP but the legends in this game make it all worth it. Buy this game if you are a long time wreslting fan.

Don't believe the Hype?

Showdown does have a great variety of legends in this game but don't be fooled. The controls are still very hard to learn and seem to get stuck during game play. In addition, there are some glitches that need to be worked out in this game. For example, during the showdown challenge the announcers' voices become muffled and hard to understand, and the game gets stuck on a few screens while pulling off some wrestling holds and counterholds. Also, all wrestlers' moves are very similar to eachother and after awhile of game play it gets very boring quickly. It takes almost ten minutes to fill up your energy meter to perform your speciality move. The characters move very slow, and The replay value isn't very high. In my opinion, this game is just a remake of Legends of Wrestling II. with more legends. BeIieve it or not Legends of Wrestling II was more exciting. It doesn't even compare to the Smackdown Franchise video games. Take my advice please, save $50 bucks and rent it first. Be the judge for yourself. On a scale from 1-10. I may give it a 5-6 rating because I have been a wrestling fan for 25 years and even thats being generous. Acclaim needs to take some notes from THQ and learn how to make a real fun and exciting wrestling game!

Filled with bugs and glitches that spoil the game.

While the game boasts one of the greatest rosters ever put in a wrestling game, the bugs and glitches ruin this game. While Acclaim's idea was a good one, they deliver a game that feels more like an unfinished demo.
