BAD controls

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 8

This is my first RE game and i couldnt stand it after the first 15 minutes. The controls are really bad. This could be a good game if they fixed the controls, it makes it almost unplayable to me. Maybe after a while you can get used to it but it would still annoy the crap out of me. I'll stick to other games for now, maybe in RE5 they will make them better.

Resident Evil brings back the best

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 2

Hands down, Resident Evil has to be the greatest game series for any console to have since NES' original Double Dragon series. With the exception of the lackluster, lame-duck third installment, Resident Evil: Nemesis, the series is flawless with a spiraling storyline and a gallery of interesting characters. While the originals might have been a bit more frightening in comparison to the later ones, the action continues to deliver intensity, leaving the horror and terror to Silent Hill - another personal favorite. Resident Evil 4 is the closest to perfection in the action/horror/survival genre.

Following the events in Resident Evil 2, Leon Kennedy is back, now six years later. Through a quick narration on his part, one learns that the Umbrella Corporation - a fantastic company that breeds all of nature's nightmares - is off the map. Through a cancelled trade embargo by the United States, the company loses trade holds and goes under. Kennedy, on the other hand, works for the President and serves as the bodyguard to his daughter, Ashley. Unfortunately for Leon (that means you), Ashley's been kidnapped in Europe, leaving you stuck in Spain on a wild goose chase.

Though the makers claimed to exclude zombies, the game features an array of horrors from disgruntled, trance-like, Spanish villagers to megalodon-sized water monsters to religious fanatics and even monsters that resemble something out of John Carpenter's The Thing. All of these creatures walk, swim and crawl through Europe's most dreadful, remote locations and under the dreariest weather conditions, making Syracuse look like San Diego. If that wasn't enough, try stomaching an entire medieval castle filled with terror of biblical proportions.

Control and game play has changed quite impressively. Instead of the erratic angles that switched positions every five seconds, making running or aiming nearly impossible for a beginner, the game takes you to the close-up, limited third person. You're behind Leon, nearly looking over his shoulder at times, and the entire gunplay and action maneuvering is straight from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In the beginning it might feel tough, but thirty minutes into it, you're sold. You'll never play another Resident Evil game the same way.

Landscapes, actions, weather and even emotions are all clearly defined and superbly painted by some of the top graphics PS2 has left to offer. Both the FMV sequences and actual game play are so linear that it's sometimes hard to tell whether or not you're playing - and usually, you are. No longer are FMV sequences a time to relax. Instead, the creators opted to introduce several actions at the quick completion of buttons ranging from dodging to jumping to even kicking. Once again, this game is nothing but intense action from start to game over.

One minor set back is the dialogue. While video games aren't held as Oscar contenders, one hopes there is someone out there that can write. Another thing might be the choice of characters, such as Saddler, who makes some of the game's more chilling moments more "tongue in cheek."

Either way, Resident Evil 4 is for anyone who's watched a horror movie, monster movie, or action movie and said, "I want to do that."

Better than Ever

I have been waiting for this game for a long time, and it was worth the wait. This game is even better for the Ps2 than the gamecube. Better Graphics, sound, and controls. Also some new bonus missions, costumes, and weapons. This game is a excellent game to play on Halloween, because it is an action and horror game. It is also alot cheaper. Buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screams "mediocre"

It doesn't surprise me that so many people just love RE4 to death. Everyone's so quick to scream "OMG greatest game ever!!!" We've already had about 10 "greatest games ever" this year, all over-rated. There's just no satisfying some folks and I guess I'm one of them. So here's what I hate about RE4: The camera angle is annoying, everything is so dark I can't see what's right in front of me until I'm right on top of it, upgrading weapons is a waste of "pitas" or whatever they are because you can't possibly hold every weapon, you have all of one third of a second to aim before the bad guys are all over you, there's no point in having a health meter since one hit takes away all your health and a second hit kills you, there is not nearly enough ammo, you can't leave Ashley alone anywhere for any reason or else she'll get caught and emit a scream that sounds like a mixture of an 8-year old girl and an angry cat, and the difficulty is way out of control. Want to know why American versions of Japanese titles are easier? Its because Americans play games to WIN, because we spent the rest of our day getting beaten up and pissed off with jobs, school, etc. Just because the Japanese want insane difficulty doesn't mean Americans do. RE4 is too hard and frustrating to be any fun at all. This is yet another over-rated "greatest game of all-time," just like God of War, Prince of Persia, CHRONO TRIGGER, and soooooooo many others.

Think of the Gamecube version but, with lots of extras!

First things first, even with the Gamecube version of RE4(Resident Evil 4) coming out a year earlier, this is still one of the best games for the Playstation 2. Like Top 10, its that good.

1) The PS2 version features a side story game called "Seperate Ways" with Ada Wong but, you have to beat the main game one time to get to that (Gamecube version does not have this mode).

2) Played the GC version and the PS2 version of the game is a notch harder because of less ammo and more enemies but, that makes the game even more interesting.

3) The controls for the game are easy to learn/use, even on the ps2 controller.

4) RE4 is easily the best Resident Evil game in the entire series, and could the best survival horror game EVER made... :)

5) While the Gamecube version looks nicer due to the lighting that the Gamecube can do, the PS2 version still looks terrific, wonderful, so on and so forth.

PS2 version even has another weapon, and lots of unlockables that the Gamecube version doesn't have. This is a must have for any PS2 owner, especially since its less than $40 dollars. One player game only, and if you don't have a memory card to save your progress, you'll probably shoot yourself.

HOLY CACA!!!

Being a hardcore gamer with no money, and having only the PS2 system, I had bought this game upon the day of it's release, having high expectations for this game(especially having played and passed this game for the Game Cube). It did not disapoint!!! The scenery is beautiful considering it's for the PS2, Leon is still a thing of beauty and the gameplay is still intact. Though one will complain that the graphics are distorted, one has to sit there and think "has there been a better looking game for the PS2? Sure, graphics don't even compare to that of the Game Cube, but the action will keep you moving so fast you won't even notice the rough edges on the walls or the rough textures, and there isn't much to complain about graphic-wise with the exception of those already mentioned. The only drawback is the d@mn loading times, which last at the most 5-8 seconds, and for those that have played the Game Cube version, the controls take a while to sink in, but nevertheless fixs in quite well. Extras are a nice luxury, but for those that have the Game Cube version, and own a PS2, rent this game. For those, like me, who are living off the PS2, this is a must buy. I cannot state how important it is to buy this game. BUY IT NOW IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT ALREADY FOR EITHER SYSTEM!!!

This instantly became one of my favorite games the first few minutes of play. The aiming system has improved greatly from past RE titles. You now have a laser sight for weapons which allows you to shoot at a good distance away. The brand new zombies and enemies are awesome! No more mindless neck-sucking zombies. These actually run at you with weapons such as axes, dynamite, knives, etc. Especially "El Gigante" which you will have to just see for yourself. Also, there is no more fixed camera angles!! THANK YOU CAPCOM!! I played this for the first time a few months ago at my friends house on Game Cube and knew I had to have it when I heard it was being released on PS2. THe graphics have dulled a bit, but that it is no reason not to buy this. It only cost $40.00 the day it came out on PS2 so I was ecstatic! Don't listen to those reviewers who say it sucks because of slightly worse graphics. Plus the extra play with Ada Wong is another good reason to buy this. GameCube or PS2 owners, buy this now!!! You will not regret it!!

VAST improvement over Resident Evil: Outbreak

I am a long-time fan of the Resident Evil series. I have not been disappointed until the Resident Evil: Outbreak. Resident Evil: Outbreak was very difficult to play and you could not kill the zombies.

Capcom has redeemed themselves with Resident Evil 4. They have added a fantastic way to tune up your weapons, increasing the load time, capacity and ability to inflict damage to enemies. There are more save points and places to buy weapons and restore health. The graphics and fluid of motion and playability of the game are excellent.

My only complaint is that it is not long enough! More, more, more like this one, Capcom!!

Resident Evil 4 for Playstation II achieves greatness. Never have I played a Resident Evil so wonderful before except when I played RE2 and Code Veronica (on Dreamcast).

Puzzles are excellent. Bosses are difficult. Controls are easy to get used to. Storyline is...wow.

I am so excited and anxious for Resident Evil 5 to come out (since it's the next 'story' that comes after RE 4).

A MUST BUY for any horror gamer fan or RE fan!!
